We in the Bay Area remember Monte Ellis when he was the Mississippi Missile! He was our guy!! Until we drafted a skinny dude from Davidson name Wardell Curry II. The things changed. But we got big love for #8 (Ellis) in the Bay. Forever!!

Other than his passing, Jokic isn't what you would call a "flashy" player and that's where 95 percent of the "criticism" of him comes from. But it has nothing to do with what he actually PRODUCES on the court and to that end, I'll take him over any player in the league right now.

There is not set criteria so of course the approach to voting will be different when looking at a 20 year gap.

Going by win shares.. which admittedly isn't a perfect stat, but it's as good as anything. The ten worst MVP selections in history were:
    1. 1972-73 Dave Cowens over Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (9.9 Win Share difference)
    2. 1961-62 Bill Russell over Wilt Chamberlain (7.6)
    3. 1962-63 Bill Russell over Wilt Chamberlain (7.4)
    4. 1960-61 Bill Russell over Wilt Chamberlain (5.8)
    5. 1993-94 Hakeem Olajuwon over David Robinson (5.7)
    6. 2005-06 Steve Nash over Dirk Nowitski (5.3)
    7. 2004-05 Steve Nash over Kevin Garnett (5.2)
    8. 1956-57 Bob Cousy over Neil Johnston (4.9)
    9. 1963-64 Oscar Robertson over Wilt Chamberlain (4.4)
    10. 1977-78 Bill Walton over David Thompson (4.3)
NBA only because who cares about the ABA MVP.
Wilt Chamberlain sure got robbed of a lot of MVPs. Clearly Dave Cowens is the worst MVP choice of all time. Some of these are understandable such as anyone who saw Olajuwon in 94 saw something sublime. also Bill Walton missed a lot of games and was constantly hobbled by his bad foot or that gap wouldn't have been as big. Some other interesting things I found:
    1. Michael Jordan and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar both deserved 9 MVPS, and Wilt deserved 8.
    2. Kobe Bryant didn't deserve a single MVP award. His one win in 2008 Chris Paul should have won by four win shares and that would have been number 11 on the list.
    3. Even more surprisingly Bill Russell didn't deserve a single award. Of his five awards three should have been Wilt's one Oscar Robertson and one Dolph Schayes.
    4. James Harden should have won five, which I didn't expect.
You know who's name isn't anywhere in this discussion? Nikola Jokic. He deserved both his MVP awards, should have won last year over Embiid, and should also win this year. All by quite comfortable margins.

Criticism and hate are two different things. Stop moving the goal posts for certain players and we won't have to have this conversation. Without question there have been several players that should have had three in a row since Larry Bird and they have all been denied for whatever BS reason.

His team was 6 one year n other 5th, lots of great players lost mvp cause of their team success. Nd off the 9 backtoback mvp in the last 40 years hes the worst. If u disagree name one that is worse.

What everyone's missing about Gilbert's trash take is that it's not even true about Jokic's MVPs not being historic. The list of MVP winners who averaged 25/10/5 (you can alternate rebounds/assists if you want) are Oscar, Wilt, Kareem, Bird, Barkley, Westbrook, Giannis, and Jokic. That's it. Saying that Jokic wasn't historic when he's one of 8 MVP winners to average that statline is insane. Jokic and Giannis are the only guys to have done it twice.
Professional athletes and TV personas need to stop running podcasts. They are doing a lot of damage with their obsession to hot takes and clickbaiting. Get back to actual journalists and analysts being on the air.

Man, is so funny when they talk about Jokic MVP, especially 1st one and pull up the numbers but they are "forgetting" the facts. Jokic took Denver to the play off with Will Barton as the second best player on the team ( Porter and Murray were injured whole season). Barton was the lowest scoring 2nd best player on the team in the league . Jokic hate is real .
