Saturday November 17th was opening day at the brand new Northwoods Trails in Hot Springs, AR! Even the mayor was out there riding!
I didn't even cover everything that was open, mainly because the blue jump line was so good, I kept going back to it (and so did everyone else out there)!

Hey man I'm glad you enjoyed the system. I'm one of the builders on the imba crew. The trail with all the switchback turns that aren't berms was meant to keep "novice descenders" from gaining too much speed and colliding with riders climbing. I raked every square inch of that trail and wished I could've bermed it the whole time lol. Anyways... I'm stoked to see videos out already 🤘

It is! Arkansas is blowing up! They've said that they want to become a world-class mountain biking destination, and they're putting their Walton money where their mouth is!
@@huntstyle we have the resources for that to happen. our most ridden is the paved trail from the big dam bridge to the clinton library. lots of planning to link the pinnacle mountain trails to the river trail system. thanks for visiting man.
I was there yesterday and yes it was worth the trip. I didnt get to ride a lot of the trails. But I did get to scout ride Lucky 13. It was great but way above my skill level. Thanks for your videos. Love it.
Yeah, I didn't get over to Lucky 13, because from what the shuttle driver said, it sounded well above my pay grade as well! Until I can consistently clear tables, I'm not even gonna attempt any gaps!
I had drinks at Maxines with the crew who built thse trails. Awesome dudes and their instagra is awesome also.

all of the editing and not clarifying the beginning of specific trails and ending makes it impossible to get an idea of what the trails are like top to bottom.

Hero 4 Black, 4K, was at 30 fps for this video I believe, but now I'm doing 24 fps and use an ND filter on the lens.

Hey Matt, I went out there yesterday. Looks like you mostly hit the flow trails. There are a couple of "XC" trails that may not have been open yet when you were there but were the best part of the day for me. End of the Rainbow and Wishbone branch off of a couple of blue trails and are pretty tech and steep, way different than anything else out there so far. Tons of fun! Definitely check 'em out next time you're up there. We got back to my house in Univ Park in 4.25 hours yesterday, not bad at all. Great place to ride. We went up to ride Iron Mountain, and decided after the first day to try something else cuz IM was so rough, soft, and leaf-covered. Super glad we did, Northwoods is off the hook!
Those trails weren't open yet at the grand opening. I hit almost everything that they had open at that time.

Yeah, the trails must be super saturated to still be closed, because we haven't gotten a ton of rain in November so far. Lake Grapevine is now 10 feet above pool (was 14), so we're making progress! Did you record your enduro?

Nice recap! Props for putting up your video of obviously just getting a feel for the flow trails on your first time there when you're not comfortable pushing it yet. Double props for eating a gut bomb and then doing more riding! :-)
Question regarding the jumps. I'm guessing from the sounds only, that they are pretty steep faced and compress your suspension really heavily. I still struggle with those type of jumps, because you just have to keep your weight forward, embrace getting thrown up into the air, and manage to get the thing leveled out in mid-air. I see a lot of other riders hitting them fine, but to me they feel like they were built to specs for DJ bikes that are much shorter. I'm much better on ones with gradual faces even if they are much bigger.
How many miles are there at Northwoods? I have still not ridden anywhere down in that area, and I hear that Iron Mountain is a really fun system as well. Probably needs to be on my spring list, and I can meet my brother Mark down there, coming up from McKinney.

The face of the jumps were pretty steep. I know what you mean, and that also makes it difficult for me to get distance on them, as you can see by me casing all of them!
They have 14 miles open now, but it's gonna be 44 miles when it's done!
@@huntstyle I know exactly what you mean with regard to fun. That's what we're in it for. BK/XC can't jump a lick, but he still makes highly entertaining videos that chronicle his MTB adventures. I'm out to have the best time possible, and that's what I'm trying to capture on video. I'll leave the 30 foot gap jumps to the Pros!
I can relate to that issue with the sort-of abrupt kicker jumps Mark.
I ride an XL and carry much speed but find I have a hard time scrubbing jumps like that. Fireline @Coler is a good example of this. They'd freshened up the lips on it a month ago or so and....damn. Definitely does not like my XL NukeProof. If I slow up a bit I'm good but not near as fun as letting er hang out!

Man...I'm really considering making a trip up there soon. It sucks it will be so damned cold. I would like to camp. Its only a little closer than Bentonville, still 8 hours for me. It looked like had the hunger shakes when you were looking at the map lol.
Lol, I don't recall shaking, but that's possible. Dang, sucks that it's still 8 hours away! The blue jump line is really great practice for jumps, though! Much like Fireline, but faster.

@@ChrisCXK No, the shuttle was actually just to take you from one trailhead to the other. The event was at the Cedar Glades Trailhead, which was a bit of a ride up & down the road to get to the Northwoods Trails on the far west end, or the shuttle took you to the Waterworks Trailhead, which is pretty much in the center of Northwoods. You have to climb up to get to the downhill trails! But, it's not really that bad of a climb. Not too steep, and actually a pretty steady grade the whole way, so you can get into a good rhythm.

Bluejay is the blue jump line I rode the most here. They've got some new ones now I've heard are good. Ragnarok I've heard is really good. I gotta get back out there and try it!
That trail looks like a lot of fun. I think we're moving to NWA next month. Cant wait to hit hot springs!

I'm pretty jealous man. Isle du bois opened up today so I finally got to ride for the first time in over a month. It was better than nothing, but man I wish I could have been in Hot Springs or Bentonville.
Yeah, IDB is pretty grueling! Well all it takes is 9.5 hours of driving, lol! I didn't stay overnight, that was a day trip!
