I agree 100% . If you just want to live somewhere nice on a Tourist Visa KL, Malaysia is the place.
If you want to live long term in Thailand you're going to need a ED Visa, Business Visa or be a qualified English teacher.

I think it's a moot subject. But if you're growing it for research, I don't think there's any harm as long as you don't indulge in it! Anyway, if you're bringing some into Malaysia, just make sure you declare them to the immigration and airport security just in case DON'T hide it.
*Disclaimer: I don't guarantee any hassle-free later should you decide to bring the stuff with you!!!!!!!*

We have people from Pakistan, Bangladesh, Thailand, Indonesia, Singapore, Brunei, Philippines, Myanmar, Nepal, Vietnam, Middle East, and recently from Uzbekistan and South Korea. Other people from outside of Asia also work in Malaysia like Nigeria, UK and Australia but not as many as the mentioned countries.

That might be the country for me as a Muslim who eats a stricter diet. As I dream of leaving my job for a slow digital nomad lifestyle, my questions are mostly about the food and the culture shock. I would probably find more people to hang out with in Malaysia than in Thailand. I find that as Americans or Europeans most DN do not have to wonder how they will be welcomed. But I do. Thank you for talking about the diversity. I do prefer a diverse country too. While I pray like Malays, I have more around Westerners.

to put cash ? 30 k in there banks . and as a foreigner you can only buy over priced properties over 1m ringht . best to only stay 3 months ( camron hightland ) then 2 months in thailand
( get visa kullumpher or penang ) . then 4 months in camboda ( get 1 month ordernery visa then exstend 3 months when in camboda ) then get 3 months visa ( 90 bays )
to veatnam. if you want you could also go to laos ( . only 1 month visa available )

I am a big fan of Malaysia, and KL is an excellent city which I have visited more than once. Based on my own experience, one thing I must disagree with you is the quality of the internet. No matter where I have gone in this country I have found the internet to be awful. Having spoken to a few Malay people during my visits they seem to agree with my experience, although admittedly I wasn't staying in the higher end accommodation that you seem to have been staying in. I teach online and would love to stay longer in Malaysia, but because of the poor internet I can't. I spent a few months in Viet Nam and found the internet to be excellent. If someone here could prove me wrong I would be delighted.

However, Malaysia the temperature may be only 33 degrees C, but the humidity can be very high, so it can feel very oppressive....saps your energy....and make you sweat like crazy.
If you don't do well in humidity then it might not be the place for you.

I found Malaysia preferable to Thailand, but if I'm right, Thailand has a preferential rate tax treaty with the U.S. for U.S. sourced dividend and interest income, making interest/dividend income suject to 15% higher tax in Malaysia (U.S. withholding tax is 15% with Thailand, 30% with Malaysia if my memory is right). This is the biggest negative for Malaysia, and as a person living of dividends/interest this is a major negative - anyone know a strategy to overcome this and still hold these investments?

Actually, structurally, if calculated from road level, the tallest is still twin Towers (but has been overtaken by the Merdeka 118, although still under construction). Merdeka 118 will be the second tallest in the world upon completion.

Malaysia is more 'harmonious' as the United States when it comes to race-relations because it's not a liberal democracy. The Malaysians of Chinese and Indians descent are treated like second-class citizens. If they speak up, the Malay politicians will wield the 'keris' (Malay traditional dagger) and warn the 'immigrants Chinese and Indians' (even though many of them have been there for more 4-5 generations) that they should 'remember their place as guests in the country'. That would never fly in the US.
