To those naive young Hongkong kids, prior to 1984,The Governor was the head of government and appointed by the British monarch to serve as the representative of the Crown in the colony. Executive power was highly concentrated with the Governor, who himself appointed almost all members of the Legislative Council and Executive Council and also served as President of both chambers.

Well said Bro. Please don't forget to add during the colonial rule, there were no freedom of speech, no freedom of assembly. Maybe all these Imbeciles are demanding to have the illegal assembly act restored???

Since the British controlled Hong Kong for so long that it developed so differently from mainland China in terms of social life, politics and cultural values, I really do not think it should have ever been given back to China ever. Since the British wanted eternity of controlling Hong Kong, they should have just bought the New Territories instead of just only leasing it just like they bought Kowloon/Hong Kong Island, because this way they would have had no obligations to return Hong Kong back to China. They may have taken Hong Kong, but at least they treated the Hong Kong people much more nicely providing better educational resources, economical and welfare system and allowed them to retain their regional cultures/languages unlike in mainland China. But since Hong Kong has been returned to China, at least there is a one country two systems and I do not think 50 years is enough because their ways of thinking are too different and they will not be ready by then to be fully reunited. It should have been made 100 years or more, so there would be more time for them to politically and socially come to agreements and once that happens, maybe discuss being fully reunited then. But right now, they are not ready to be fully integrated and until their political and social thinking merge closer, China needs to for now forget about discussing having Hong Kong brought back to China fully.

Is it possible to make basic law become the law of China instead of just the law of Hong Kong? Because, in my opinion, Hong Kong’s basic law is far better than mainland china’s law. It would make China a better place.

about the intepretation... actually if this 2 lawmaker pass their oath taking ceremony.
join by the other 4 poeple (or many other disqualified member)
i feel, disqualification and ban to join political for x year (not sure how long) is correct.
you nominate yourself to become legco member
you being nominated by your party to be their representative.
people support you by electing you.
but during the oath taking ceremony, you betray everyone vote.
just some childish and immature act.. against china (which you seems to be very proud of)
making everyone support drown into hole...
if they pass the oath taking, im not sure if this people really thinking of working the best for both govt
or will they be trying to make more dissident... or try to motivated more indepedence movement...

A little biased and somehow was misleading as well. You have to not forget the 1 country 2 systems is based on 1 country with which no 1 country no 2 systems. Hong Kong is an indisputable part of China therefore it has sovereignty over Hong Kong. No country will allow anyone to put their city above the country. In most countries its call treason. China always has to the last say on what happens to Hong Kong for national security reasons. Internal affairs of the city belongs to the ceo of Hong Kong. China gave Hong Kong that freedom and it can also take back and there is nothing anyone can do.

Im amazed at how China still follows the Basic Law until today because in my opinion the Chinese relationship with the Basic Law and Hong Kong is like how Pablo Escobar gives you a car and makes you guarantee that you will keep the car polished as Pablo Escobar has done. And by Pablo Escobar Im referring to Britain, China's greatest drug dealer

Hong Kong Basic Law was enacted and promulgated under Annex 1 of Sino British Joint Declaration.
That is, the authority of Hong Kong Basic Law is based on the Sino British Joint Declaration.
So, Hong Kong Basic Law shall not violate the Sino British Joint Declaration.
Thus, any Articles in the Hong Kong Basic Law which violate Sino British Joint Declaration shall be voided.
Sino British Joint Declaration Article 3.2 stipulates that China shall not be responsible for the affairs of Hong Kong except diplomatic and defense affairs.
Article 158 of the Hong Kong Basic Law gives China the power to interpret the laws of Hong Kong making China responsible for the affairs of Hong Kong that are not diplomatic or defense affairs. Thus, Article 158 of the Hong Kong Basic Law shall be voided.
Decision on Nominating Committee for Chief Executive election, decision on Election Committee for Chief Executive election, decision on composition of Legislative Council, all have nothing to do with diplomatic or defense affairs of Hong Kong, and so according to the said Article 3.2, China shall not be responsible for these decisions.
Otherwise, China will be breaching the Sino British Joint Declaration.
