Reminds me of the time I tried to mate a dboys steel akms front end to an older pot metal dboys aks-74 receiver in a poor attempt to make a "Khyber Pass" kalash. Did not end well for me but it was a lesson.
Do not really have enough bits of anything to build the dream abominations I have (The Khyber Pass Special, an ak105 with a solid stock for either wood or plum furniture, either another carbine or full length kalash with rpk buttstock) and like you stated repeatedly throughout the vid, it would cost far too much to do so. Not many shops sell ak externals without making one have to buy every single bit individually. Most often it is just pot metal parts or only tm style (which admittedly makes TM style probably the easier path for builds).
LCT have teased builds before for their whole "modular" campaign before, and respond with "contact your dealer" when told "can you make receivers and complete barrel assemblies available?" knowing that no shop is going to carry them all and at best for the latter will just have the outer barrel sans gas tube assembly, rear sight block, etc.
At the point where I rather just have externals to throw my shit v3 gearbox builds into rather than paying out the nose for whatever "new" model that comes along. Problem is the externals end up costing near the price of a cyma at some points (though even now cymas feel like they are going the lct route of price increase).
Sorry for the rant, been one of those weeks.

Boneyard guns are good if you want a project gun. But if you don't or can't make the time for it, then it's a waste of money. I have done 1 boneyard m4 pre-owned dirt cheap. They were honest and told me the gearbox was not functional. I got a replacement gearbox and got it working again. It's externally a g&p. Internally, it has a g&g gearbox now. No modifications were needed to fix it in the G&P body. But the only original parts from the boneyard gun are the original outer barrel and handguard.
But this project took over 4 years to make it the way I wanted it externally . But since I started with a base, that was how I wanted to be it made it easy to swap with better quality externals because I started it with a boneyard gun which had it a way I wanted it to look like. I am over the moon with it, and it is my favorite AEG I own. But will I do it again? That's a maybe if I find another that convinces me to do it, but at this time, right now, I won't be.

I’ve watched approximately 18 seconds of the video so far… but from my experience it’s genuinely a mixed bag of fuckery!! I’ve gotten an APS boneyard gun that was $20 and was so far gone using it as a paperweight wasn’t even within question because of the amount of dirt, dust, bark, grass, grease and other shit that would continuously leak out of it like some sort of radioactive sludge, but I’ve also gotten an ares amoeba CCR ( the little chodely one) with a retro arms gearbox shell for $90…. Retro shell, $120… amoeba body….. $-30.. yeah I guess I payed about what that was worth but you get the point! no regrets there!!! If you’re bored they’re fantastic, but absolutely don’t plan on making a boneyard your primary rifle unless you enjoy heartbreak and swearing at a toy
