to those who make sneering comments below : why need to be so unkind ? Do you go around streets telling strangers you don't like their clothes ? their hats, their shoes.... "i don't like the look of you,so i shall go of my way to hurt you" not very christian. personally i love the friendly enthusiasm of these two, studying the masters.
Resentment, the disease of the entitled American. I could show a few more examples on college campuses. Post Modern Deconstruction in a nut shell. If you can´t construct, deconstruct. You now have all the information to teach anybody anything. Great stuff.
what happened to the first part of this dvd...... that was one awesome warm lesson to start the day. I was watching both of these vids everyday for a while.
On second half of the lick 3:30-3:50 i found same thing (using 1 finger to do a chromatic run) pretty unusual at beginning to execute, still less is more especially when doing Django style fast chromatic runs which are possible to accomplish only with 1 finger to get that tone, still adore jazz swing cause pauses are as important as tones played, just practice slow and listen :) Tnx for the video
Yngwie malmsteen played lick 40, the minor arpeggios that he said Stochelo invented first, I think? Yngiwe used them on " Too young to die, too drunk to live," released 1983. Stcohelo used them on Bossa Dorado released 1990, written by shmidtt in 86. I myself to this day wonder where Yngwie got them, as it was what led me to Gypsy jazz. I saw Troy grady interview Joscho stephan.
I can't play Django, but I'm always amazed at all these guitarists seem to miss the point that Django took the guitar and created HIS art on the instrument. So, IMHO to copy Django is pretty much the opposite of what the man and his style was about. This breaking it all down parrot fashion even worse. Take a guitar use your ears a lot a work at your style something might emerge - thats Django style to me. I do love watching the young French guys and girls (14 or so years old )rattling out Django so effortlessly. But hey what the hell do I know.
John is fast on right hand but very weak with left he uses only first 2 fingers 3rd rarely and he doest use 4th at all which is pretty lame in my opinion
Chronic MontequilA Hopefully in the 2 years since you posted this ignorant shite you actually researched and discovered that the 2 finger gypsy runs are because Django Reinhardt only used 2 fingers ( he literally only had 2 fingers on his hand after a fire). It's emulating the exact way Django played those runs.
