It's such a good thing for me that I never had you on RUclips teaching me stuff like this when I younger. I absolutely would have tried to get in the ring. :) You do, however, make me want to at least get back in the gym and workout.
another way i like setting this up is by overusing my lead hand (doesn't tire me because I've trained to o that). I throw so many head level jabs and hooks that at some point they get comfortable and I start spicing the combos with body hooks and uppercuts with my lead hand, mixed in with steps, slips and pivots and it gets the job done. Example: I begin jabbing and I use that a lot along with lead hooks and when they learn to expect the attacks I either slip their counter and body hook or pivot away and uppercut, cross. Or throw a long body hook and slip, dodge if I can't get closer or pivot.
I love going to the body shot for the same reason as you during sparring. The best is how often you can catch them when you're at distance. Everyone expects it more when you get in close, but at distance you reach of range or throw a jab and then disguise that same move and throw the long range body shot. Trickier to get the knuckles in, but like you say - slight elbow bend, flex the relevant muscles and angle that wrist and those knuckles will land.
All of these tips were so helpful for me Gabriel, especially the one where after the cross, you should at the end of rechambering it throw the body hook I have been practicing body hook setups for quite a while now and I noticed that my body hooks improved with it, so thank you so much Gabriel for giving some additional little insights I have not known about and that have elevated my skill level in terms of setups for body shots!
also a really good way to open up the body is throwing lead head kicks then throwing a switch kick to the body. you gotta be a fast kicker or disguise the switch with either punches or bring your rear foot forward into southpaw if theyre backing up with a high guard.
Could you please make more Clinch videos please the ones ive seen already from you are really well done in terms of how you break down all the little details
I'd personally switch orochimaru with Madara and put zabuza at 5 because he's just so well written and if Naruto stayed with that level of combat. Taijutsu, and grit I would have loved it so much more than the ending.
I use ballistic striking instead of using boxing strikes. The only time I flex my arms during a strike is when I perform crosses. My jabs, hooks, body shots and hammer fists are all performed with my arms loose, moving like lightning.

Hey Gabriel, is it possible you could do a video on wrist conditioning? I've been doing martial arts my whole life, and my power has always far surpassed my physical toughness, and I have injured my own hands multiple times because my shots are too strong and my wrists can't take my own power. Everyone I've ever sparred with or pressure tested with has said I'm the strongest hitter they've ever met. I've had bodybuilders and powerlifters give up after I only landed one shot. I'd really like to make sure my hands don't break the next time I have to knock somebody out in self defense
Second thing - remember. Look at Chavez - why his opponents were reluctant to throw right hand ???? Because they were scared of his left hook to the body . Hit them once or twice with good body hook - you take right hand away
Hello, Gabriel! Great content. Could you answer me one question? I little scared for my thumb when i throw my body hook, what do you thing about long body hook with fist turned thumb down? Thank you in advance
i Have a Question i dont think you get very often but for fighting are there better mouth guards then others and are there different ones you should ware in training
For me when I throw a powerful slamming body hook on the hard heavy bag, it hurts my wrist. But u said to curl it, how can I slam my fist into the harder boxing bags, without hurting my wrist on the body hooks?
you don't. heavy bags are too heavy for that thing, if u wanna do full power striking u need something like the double-end bag or a light punching bag or of course pads and someone to hold them. why is that? because your wrist, even if u do perfect tying with bandages, could never withstand the force of your back and whole body on something that is too heavy and doesn't yield ground. for every action there is a reaction, every time u push a wall u feel that u are being pushed by the wall back, and since heavy bags are not moving out of the way then your wrists will. you can however strengthen your wrists with exercises like fist push-ups, punching stuff (like the heavy bag) that will not fuk up ur wrists but will instead build strength slowly, etc.
Hello Mr! Can you give some tips for me make my style more fluid in sparring? I train TKD and trad boxing. This weekend I went to a kickboxing sparring session and got my a** handed to me. What should I do?😱
Well - one good suggestion is to go to some more kickboxing classes. I am a big believer in cross training fight styles. Every Martial Art has very useful techniques in their style "BUT" no one style has everything you need to be the most complete fighter you are capable of being, so it is important to get out to different clubs and train and keep learning. Find out what you are really good at and what comes easy to you - AND THEN - train really hard at the things you are not good at. Everyone seems to embrace what we are good at and then ignore or avoid the things we are weakest or most lacking in. These are in fact the things we really need to embrace and continue working at until we are good at them. Gabriel's dad - Keith varga

Jiu-jitsu you can be 50 and be a beginner without breaking your body
My favorite set up is jab or 1-2 or 1-2-3. But Inoue's uppercut set up is amazing, when it works, it lands so cleanly.
