few chapters ago he thought, dying while hating the party would make him a winner, i think the bullet wasn't a metaphor there, he did die, but he died loving the big brother, and that's the actual failure of his battle against the party.
The book has some of the biggest plot twists and character changes I've ever seen in a book, this is hands-down some of my favorite long novels right up there with "Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry." Thank you Course Hero for helping me learn this book, you have done a good job breaking this down, ;)
I agree with your interpretation. It shows that eventually these groups can get to you- with your biggest fear (in our world) it might be through blackmail or kidnapping of a family member for instance. Winston's story does show that you can battle hard, though. Your deepest thoughts are also something that cannot be stopped. Making them public is another matter- the authorities can censor and suppress that way. I reread this just after reading Brave New World. It was interesting to see the world building skill of the two authors.
