Le voci bianche ( anche se sostenute da voci baritonali, del resto necessarie) sono davvero commoventi: bravissimi per sensibilità e per interpretazione. Un applauso particolare alle voci soliste. Les Petits Chanteurs de Sainte-Croix meritano davvero un grande applauso da estendere al Maestro Direttore e a tutti gli Orchestrali. Grazie per lo spettacolo davvero eccelso.
Débarrassée de toute patine romantique, l'oeuvre gagne en relief, en nerf, en fraîcheur, en saveur. J'étais habitué (depuis quelques dizaines d'années) à la version Karl Böhm, par ailleurs admirable. Et là, c'est comme quand j'ai découvert la Passion selon saint Mathieu de Bach par Nikolaus Harnoncourt, en 1971, avec des voix d'enfants, alors que je la connaissais par Klemperer, tellement plus lente, presque immobile, et empesée, voire boursouflée !
C'est si rafraîchissant d'entendre les voix cristallines de ces enfants et la profondeur des voix masculines en contrepoint. Quelle belle réussite ! Un délice à déguster sans modération.
Thomas Hogan what do you mean he wrote. He did not write the words. This is some of the parts of the Holy Mass for the Dead or what the Roman Catholics call "The Requiem Mass". God gave him the grace to compose the music for the words. It is heavenly because Jesus taught His 12 Apostles how to do the Mass in honor of the Three Divine Persons of the Most Holy Trinity. It is so perfect in every sense.

Formidable concert, impressionné par le travail, et sans partition ! j'aime beaucoup ce requiem servi par un chœur de garçons. Ils sont super, et les ainés aussi. L'orchestre sonne très bien et la direction vraiment excellente. C'est rare en France d'entendre un bon chœur d'enfants se risquer ainsi dans une œuvre du répertoire avec une telle maitrise. Bravo aux PCSCN. Espérons un jour entendre aussi les PCCB dans une œuvre comparable.

Merveilleuse! This is as close as we can conceive to Mozart's original soundscape; boys' voices and period instruments. There may not be the overblown, emotional investment in the solos as one would suffer with adult females, but IMHO, liturgical music in the classical period still must have have eschewed the worst of the spurious "interpretive" indulgent solo elements we have been conditioned to accept in this post romantic, post modern age. This is religious music after all, directed at glorifying the creator, not the performers.

Having solos is not in of itself indulgent or irreligious. It depends on the context. There is a certain beauty to a solo that you can't get from the whole choir. Likewise in the other direction. Take motets for example. Motets often have multiple solo pieces being played at the same time in total harmony. Yes, soloists can become arrogant. But it does not have to be that way.

As a singer in this choir, the older boys don't have enough time to learn their part because of their jobs, study while youngers devote much more time during the year

Pour répondre au premier commentaire, en ce qui concerne les pccb, il n'y a plus aucune chance de les voir atteindre une telle perfection, malheureusement ils ont fini leurs années de gloire avec leur dernière tournee de la Coree en decembre 2013, depuis qu'ils ont étés transférés a Autun et places sous une autre direction. De toutes facon, le mode de fonctionnement s'articulait autour d'un choeur de très bons chanteurs D'où on sortait un ou deux très bons solistes qui menaient la tournee. On n'a jamais mis valeur la totalité des autres pccb qui auraient pu chanter aussi en soliste, bien sûr dans leurs registres de voix, il n'y avait pas un B Baudouin prêt une annee, en 2010, a tenir cette voix exceptionnelle. Ce netait pas une chorale au sens reel du terme. Dommage quand meme qu'ils ne soient devenus qu'une chorale comme les autres qui ne justifie pas 5 annees d'internat pour de tels résultats. Je les regrette beaucoup.
Beaucoup de "querelles" d' adultes, peut-être, au détriment des Petits Chanteurs eux-mêmes ? Certes, l' après Glaignes a été quelque-peu agité... Tous les "transferts" inter-mané sont parfois l' objet de supputations et de règlements de compte, ai-je l' impression en parcourant quelques sites, et c' est dommage(able..), non ? Allons, la Mané en a vu d' autres; patience...! Que nos Petits Chanteurs, en aube, pull, chemise, ..., continuent, eux, à y croire et à nous enchanter; le reste...
Vous avez bien raison, au moment où l'acharnement administratif contre les pccb se poursuit, au moment où le christianisme est raillé, dénigré, persécuté dans le monde, en France également, au moment où toute musique classique ou même populaire française et pire encore religieuse est menacée, d'en rester aux querelles de clochers. Je suis impatient de découvrir l'étendue de son talent. Je subodore néanmoins qu'il confonde les croches avec les points d'exclamation dont il semble friand. Le rap devrait davantage vous convenir me semble-t-il.
I think the alto did a fantastic job, in fact when I heard that part coming thru clearly and in tune I was wondering where it was coming from. I agree with the other comments that the boys should have been in front.
Oh dear -- as much as I had hoped for a transcendent version of the Mozart, it was disappointing to discover that the boy choir was not up to the vocal challenge. Replacing adult soprano and mezzo voices with children served neither the music nor the inherent drama and solemnity of a requiem mass. The miking was oddly handled -- why did we hear that wobbly trumpet, when we should have been listening to something else? Kudos, however, to the bass and tenor soloists, who were stalwart in holding their places, and keeping the Requiem on track. Sorry, but this was simply not the best.
Très bien, mais je préfère la version de Gardiner. Ex le Tuba Mirum de cette version est plus lente que les mouvements précédents (que je trouve trop rapides de toute façon). Le plus gros défaut à la majorité des interprétations est la vitesse. Cette version est la plus inégale. Le tempo n’est pas uniforme. Mais cette pièce restera mon classique préféré entre tous.

Cela manque d'exaltation et de fougue, j' aimerais plus de conviction et d'enthousiasme de la part des garçons qui sont trop sages.

I quite agree with you. Being a great fan of the Thomanerchor or the Choir of King's College, I find this boy's voice very poor indeed.
