What's funny is that in the original pitch for Madagascar, Gloria was supposed to be pregnant as part of a breeding project. In the final act of the movie, Melman would act as a wet nurse, helping Gloria give birth, and eventually becomes a sort of foster dad for the child. This was however dropped from the final film as DreamWorks felt the inclusion of a breeding project and a birthing scene was too much for a movie aimed at children.
