I just felt like 70% of the book was boring and unnecessary. Also, I was waiting for some major surprise that just didn’t happen. It seemed predictable. I rated it a 3/5. Could be a fun book to read at the beach but was not my favorite.
Hi. The book was okay; but there were some unanswered questions: like what was the role of the "knife?" How did Clara committ suicide? Ian I know overdosed because of Clara's suicide. The knife I thought belonged to oliver; I thought Oliver stabbed Mr. Kate's in the back which caused the van to swerve off the road and plunge into the ravine. All along it was Cassidy who caused the van to plunge into the ravine; & then the 2nd van followed. There were too many holes in this story that needed to be filled with the truth.😢 not one of my favorites. The short stories of Sherlock Holmes seem more rewarding and all points solved: and sherlock holmes which is hard to read makes this book the only survivors look sick. I like mystery books, but I do not think holmes could solve this books mystery unless it was written by Arthur Conan Doyle the books Author of the sherlock holmes short stories. Megan is a terrible mystery writer that leaves too many unanswered questions. Emilio
I felt confused as well for awhile. The male characters especially weren’t very distinct. I stuck with it though and appreciated the various plot twists by the end. What ever happened to Will though? Would have been fun to see more from that. Great review!
I’ve read five of her novels, and this was my favorite. I think she really fine tuned her writing here, a lot of times she’s too repetitive with her POVs feelings, and there’s still repetition but it wasn’t as prominent as before. I loved the concept in Widow Hills also, not the answer to the mystery, but the way the story was told and the idea of what people who are thrust into the spotlight owe the public (they owe us nothing). I find I read her books for the journey, I’m barely blown away by the ending. I saw another reviewer saying those 7 hours after the crash were actually Cassie’s perspective, like her journal. Curious what you think of that? For a concept I think it’s interesting, but for that book I don’t like it, I liked seeing it from their perspective. Taylor Adams did this in Hairpin Bridge and I loved it, although the internet collectively hated it it, but I thought it worked well. I think The Perfect Stranger is her best in terms of the mystery. I haven’t read Such a Quiet Place or The Last Houseguest yet, but I think I’m going to audio those this year cause I really want to have read all her adult novels. MAJOR SPOILER*** This has been on my mind, and since you’re someone whose read so many of her books maybe you can understand. I realized after this book she does something which I normally do not like at all, yet somehow I still love her books. I can’t remember if this was done in Perfect Stranger, I’m thinking no, but it was the first of hers I read and it’s been a while. But she does the thing where the POV we are reading from has more information and is holding out on us the whole book. This really became apparent in All the Missing Girls. I know that’s a favorite of so many but I was so frustrated with the reveal. When it happened here too I started going back through all I read of hers. Widow Hills she was a kid in the major event, but she still had an idea I think. It’s just crazy to me that I only just noticed this! The Last to Vanish definitely did it as well.
I absolutely agree that so many of Miranda's strengths were fine tuned with The Only Survivors. Particularly her pacing, structure, setting, and giving us just enough background info on the characters. Ooh interesting about the 7 hours after the crash chapters potentially being the main character's journal entries. I hadn't thought of that before but it makes sense considering we never circled back to their experiences in the present day, and we weren't sure as the reader how accurate their memories were of that night. It seems like the ambiguity of what exactly happened that night after the crash was intentional. I still need to read The Perfect Stranger. I think I would like to reread All the Missing Girls as well since I read it 3 years ago at this point and wonder if my thoughts on it would change if i read it again now. Great point about the reveals in her books being something the main character knew but waits to reveal to us. Now I need to reflect on what other thrillers I have read that do this too.
Question, I guess I just missed it. I tried to go back and reread but I didn't see it. How did she know it was Russ? I know she sent that photo to grace but what made her suspect him?
There’s so many thrillers I love, but the one I universally recommend is The Nothing Man by Catherine Ryan Howard. You have to keep reading it, and it’s instantly attention grabbing cause of the POV you get. If you do pick it up I hope you enjoy it!
I will watch this video as soon as I read the book. I don’t want to risk it given that there are spoilers in the video. In the meantime, which of her books is the best one so far in your view? I have not read anything from this author yet

Ooh yes this would be fun to read at a beach to match the setting. I had fun with it but several weeks later it hasn't stuck with me

It took me a minute to remember who Will was. A forgettable red herring for sure
Exactly! So much slow burn build-up to a mediocre ending. There were so many directions I wished it went in, but the ending just left me feeling meh..

Came here for a spoiler review but stayed for your eyes! Lol i love them
Thank you 😊

because of the necklace he gave her.
I was bored and didnt even know who caused the accident. Hard to find a thriller these days that keep my interest.
I can relate to losing interest quickly in thrillers lately
