Learning lots from you. You’re an excellent teacher. Thank you!
You're a blessing brother....
So seriously new to playing the harmonica!! I got a dime store C harp at the moment but it sounds good enough even with me playing with it that I will definitely be upgrading really soon!!! I really enjoy and have learned an incredible amount stuff for beginners just from your videos!! I will be enrolling in your courses soon as well and the upgrade on harps will come along with that. I'm getting a couple just cause I don't know when finances will allow in the future so I'm getting them while the gettings good lol!! Look forward to more of your videos and playing the harmonica for years to come! Thank you Tomlin and to everyone else who has commented!! Truly inspiring me to pursue playing harmonica just for my own enjoyment!!!
Thanks. You are awesome!
I’m not good but love my Hohner Special 20 in the key of C. Play it most off the 3rd position.
“Don’t buy cheap harmonica” Best advise!!!
Played Hohners for years. I was playing them too hard & always destroying the reeds. Switched to Sleydel, with stainless steel reeds. Good tone, reasonable price, extra comfortable to play, & SUPER durable.
Thanks!
Wow thank you so much Stephen!

Special 20 in c and ms series in g by hohner, agree, I like the Suzuki's also!😎👍keep rocking brother!😎👍
Suzuki Bluesmaster is awesome
@@Ankjell yes I've played one, like em, btw I tune my own, subbed btw😎👍🎶🎵🎶
Honor marine band deluxe is my favourite
What is your opinion or Rocket harmonicas for begginers?
I have a Blues Bender C, is that okay to start with?😢
How do you feel about Kongsheng harps?
While the Special 20 is a great beginner's harmonica, I have really come to love the Hohner Rocket. It has all the advantages of the Special 20, but the edges of the comb are more rounded, making it more comfortable to hold. Plus, the holes are just a smidgen larger, making it easier to play single notes.
I was looking at getting a rocket. What’s held me back is a lot of reviews say it sounds brighter than the special 20 and brighter than average in general. I like a more mellow, deep, rustic type sound. What do you think of the rockets sound? Is it the same as the special 20?
Thanks a lot now I have one ordered. Your fault!😅
Also, about 1/3 more expensive... I personally love the rocket amp. I'm slowly switching out my special 20s for them.
@@Zacharias810 Hey Zack, for the mellow, deep, rustic sound you describe, I personally think that nothing beats the Marine Band series, but if you are a beginner, I'd recommend sticking with plastic-combed harmonicas. The Special 20 comes pretty close to the Marine Band sound (moreso than a Lee Oskar, for example). The Rocket uses the same reed plates and tuning as the Special 20. I can't really hear any difference other than volume/projection, which is louder on the Rocket. Of course, this is all just my personal opinion.
I'd like to second that but also mentioned the rocket amp which has closed fence, which will make it louder for playing amplified, especially... slowly switching over to the rocket amps, as my harmonica's wear out
Tomlin I have a question! How many years have you been playing? Thank you keep up the great work!
Since 2006 :-)
I started with hohners but have found i like the suzukis better.
Could you do a video on harmonica breathing exercises for beginners?
Thanks for your quality content!
Landro, dig deep in my channel, there is a video on controlled breathing
Hi Landro - the best breathing exercise is a train rhythm - ruclips.net/video/BEW8wtuNOE0/видео.html
@@TomlinHarmonica A beautiful torture:)))))..nuka-tuka nuka-tuka:)))
@@TomlinHarmonica Thanks man
Am a beginner . I am progressing slowly . Bought a Fender C for fourteen dollars . It was alright but I read and researched . I came to the conclusion that I needed to up it . Universally the Hohner Special 20 C was recommended. I got one for 55 dollars and it is perfect for a beginner like me . I am just learning single note push and pull simple songs . I have got a small book. The harmonica that came with it was crap but the instruction booklet is excellent . Songs/melody before embellishment is my motto . It worked for me on guitar and it is working on harmonica with the Special 20 of course .
Just bought a Special 20 yesterday from guitar center as I was buying new strings for my guitars. Playing guitar as my main instrument for so many years has made me forget how hard starting out is, but I'm trying to hang with it. Maybe I'll get a book to guide my learning, which did you get?
Tabs for the 2 riffs in the video?
Could be a Hohner Pro Harp? Thanks in advance!
They should be pretty good :-)
I feel the Special 20 is totally out of tune out of the box.
I would recommend the Lee Oskar, totally tuned and good quality 👍
Suzuki Bluesmaster was my first harmonica. Just a great harmonica 😁
Interestingly I have recently got a Lee Oskar in for review. Watch this space
Couldn’t agree more. I bought a Special 20 and the 5 draw was ridiculously flat. I didn’t return it, another mistake. Replaced it with a Kongsheng Solist and never looked back.
If I remember correctly the Lee Oskar harps have "equal temperament" tuning. This divides the octave into equally sized steps (which many blues harp players do NOT like because then chords do not sound as they like them to sound). On the Special 20 you find one of the "just intonation" tunings (there are various ones an I am not sure which one they use on the Special 20) and this creates chords that have the sound that many blues harp players prefer. If you mainly play single note melodies and do not use chordal playing very much, then the equal temperament tuning is (in my opinion) the way to go. I believe many of the Suzuki diatonics also have equal temperament tuning and the Hohner Golden Melody also has it. Equal temperament tuning can be ordered from some harmonica manufacturers (such as Seydel) or from harmonica customizers.
Hello. Hohner special 20 didn't work for me.. seydel and hohner golden melody and marine band are what I need:) especially seydel 1847.. my first harmonica was a hohner golden melody in C.. right after I - I enrolled in Tomlin's school..three years ago:)..Tomlin, I owe you everything. I wish you and your family all the best
Thanks Ionut! You rock so hard!
What is cheap level rice wise(brands too) for a beginner
Try an Easttop T008k - don’t buy a harmonica that is too cheap
chromatic harmonicas without a slider is the best way to learn
Plis spanich , gracias
I’ve always wondered how someone can teach another person how to play a harmonica?
Lee Osker all day long
Don't ever buy a Fender harp. Ever.
Why?
You don't salivate while playing; you exhale water vapor as a result of carbohydrate burning in your body that precipitates on your instrument.
