wow, why did they change this pick pocket scene so blatantly? I mean in the book Oliver was just in the wrong place at the wrong time, mistaken as the thief and it MADE SENSE why they would be chasing Oliver. Here the Dodger is just deliberately trying to screw him over; how can this be good for business???!?!?!?
14 years too late..... Thing is that in this version, Monks/Edward makes it very clear to Fagin in the very start that he wants Oliver to get caught and to have his life destroyed in exchange for money, unlike the novel, where Fagin simply grooms Oliver to be a thief and his gang member, and Monks only makes it clear towards the very end of the novel, what exactly he wants Fagin to do with Oliver.
they actually do refer to his title in the book. he's a parochial beadle. and it's Mr. Brownlow, not Mr. Brown as for Fagin, i think i prefer him as a magician. it adds to his charisma with children. i am disappointed with the Dodger's and Charley's ages. they're supposed to be young and cute, especially the Dodger. he dressed like a ratty dandy, even though it was all too big
I don't particularly care for the direction this story has gone. It makes it seem that Oliver's fate is by direction rather than by accident. That's too far from Mr. Dicken's story line, though I enjoy the prequel.
and so the brothers finally meet. oliver looks like his mother and edward his father. i love the way fagin doesn't know what is happening to edward but gags him.
A beadle was a member of the church who was responsible for the doings of the parish... in most Victorian literature he's a hypocritical busybody sticking his nose in private affairs.
So Edward has turned evil, and he is trying to get Oliver killed off so that he can get the money? Or is he trying to find Oliver to give him the money?
Poor Edward...his epilepsy is provoked whenever he seems to get a strong emotion or a little tension, thus foiling his plans.
Yes, its from stress. Edward has a conscience.

In this adaptation he is just following his mother's orders. But when she died, he was willing to let the task go but Nancy had already told on him.
lol beadle..
@MrBigRedKoolaid oh lol =P
i liked the older oliver twist movie better / they were lousy thieves here / they would have been caught real quick in real life /
