If you get a 1.5" Bulkhead and a cheap stainless steel cook pot 15 or 20L you can just hook it up to that and use it as your Reservoir the cook pot will just sit on the bench somewhere you can put the bulkhead in the bottom or in the side and use an elbow on that filter

Tips with the Still Spirits filter system... I had the same vacuum issue and resolved it by drilling two 1mm holes in the nub on the top lid. If you only have a small amount of distillate to run through, just pop the carbon block into a zip lock bag then into the freezer and use again for another small batch.

Interesting that Still Spirits filter is "to complicated" when you pour in the top, decant off...
Proceeds to explain two valves, ties off filter between two vessels and...
Where can we see this new fangled piece in action please?

Hey Ken.... I use a Carbon Filter when I do not like the flavor of the project. I find it great to reduce the impact of a flavor, or to make pure neutral spirits by running it through 3 or 4 times.

Hi there. It depends on the cuts you make and what you throw away. If you make severe cuts, you will have very pure spirits and require little to no filtering.
The more heads and tails you include in the end product, the more filtering you will need if you want neutral spirits. It is up to the individual to decide what the final outcome is suitable.
I personally like very neutral spirits and a little bit of end product volume so I filter at least two times before throwing away the carbon.
After running a 25 litre wash, I end up with around 1.25 litres of final product at 90%ABV that gives me around 2.8ltrs of 40%ABV. My brother on the other hand wants as much from a wash as possible so he discards the first 100mls and keeps the rest filtering twice ending up with 9 ltrs of 40%ABV. To me this tastes unpleasant, but to him, he is happy with the end flavor. We are both correct in where we make the cuts and how much filtering we do - ends up in what you are happy with as an end product.
(Foot note : on some of the neutral spirit runs I make, the end product is so neutral after filtering that I add the flavoring and also leave it soak with an amount of wood chips to boost up the flavor - As I said before, what you end up doing is right for you if you are happy with the results.)
      Enjoy the ride my friend.......

I understand wanting filtered water To proof with or wanting to filter neutral spirts. But, why do you want filtered water to distill with? Your still distills your water and after making making a run your product ends up with alcohol and distilled water? Yes a wash needs water with no chlorine to keep your yeast happy but that’s all. Am I missing something?

Hey Darby, after coming to this place 10 years ago I was unable to use the water from the tap where I was able to in my previous house. I started using store bought Spring Water and after a while there was a metallic flavor even after distilling. I ended up disconnecting the hose from my inline filter to my fridge and the water quality was great. This is what inspired me to make this filter. I use it initially to filter my tap water, keep it charged then use it to filter my spirits. I find having tainted water in the ferment tank influences the distill results. I run my boiler at 78 degrees C which is the boiling point of Ethanol. I never boil it at 100C which is water boiling point so I never end up with distilled water from a wash. It is just my way of doing it which works for me.

@@pauljacobs5390 Please take this as constructive criticism (as it's intended)...
Ummmm...you need to do some research mate, specifically on the azeotrope of an ethanol and water solution. Look up ethanol & water phase diagram also while you're at it. Doing so will make you a better distiller, and help with providing you factual information you can present in your videos (which I'm enjoying except for the odd bit of misinformation).
Pure ethanol boils at around 78C and pure water boils at 100C (at sea level) but when combined, they boil at a combined temperature, somewhere in between (depending on ratio). As the ethanol boils off during distillation the boiling point rises, until there is no ethanol (or other alcohols) remaining. The aforementioned phase diagram will explain this in more detail.
As it's impossible to distill ethanol at 100%, you're always getting some water coming across with your distillate, which is therefore distilled. It's not possible to use boiler temperature to control distillation - this is a common mistake people make due to them knowing that ethanol boils at 78C...it doesn't work like that.
I recommend having a look at aussiedistiller dot com, or the Home Distillers Australia Facebook page.
      Cheers 🙂

Nice stainless set up there why don't you join the first bit you put together to the second bit you put together and you should be able to do at least one 750ml bottle in a few hours and it would also look mint as, just join both of those bits in your video together, that's what I would do but we're all different I know it's just a suggestion anyway dude enjoying your videos take it easy 👍🏻🍻

What a fantastic idea, I have been saving my distills and have about 15 ltrs. When I get to 20 Ltrs of 40%ABV I will do exactly what you suggest and i will thank you for the suggestion in the video. Been a little slack in putting out new videos lately, I only upload new vids of stuff I have not done before. The problem I have is I tend to redo stuff continually that I have done before. A few interesting things planned for the future.
