In the Original Book, the slippers were silver, but they didnt look good against the yellow brick road with the new Technicolor process, so they tried other colors and deep ruby looked best... ... Rock band ELO has a film still of the shoes from "Wizard of Oz" on the cover of their album " El Dorado" , artistic layout done by Sharon ( Arden) Osborne. test

It's so funny that you say *"You heard me!""* at the end of each of your videos. Because I honestly find myself saying so many times while watching one of your videos - *"Wait, what did Scott just say?"* .

I have just started watching and already I am so absorbed. Be back when it's over.
BTW...I am a a 58 yr old former NYC cabaret singer. I adored Judy Garland. She is the reason I became a a singer. I used to visit her grave in Hartsdale, NY as a younger person (I grew up about 5 miles from there)...sadly, she is now in California. I don't blame her kids for wanting her near them.
    OK...back to your video!😁👍

Another great video Scott ! Being a Dorothy like my grandmother before me ,there have been many pair of Ruby slippers in my shoe closet over the years . To deflect from being teased for my “old fashioned name”, I instead embraced it ,by wearing various types of red shoes in any situation that was socially acceptable. I enjoyed this it’s almost like the hunt of an expensive work of art.

Scott I live in Tennessee, grew up near the Land of Oz. When it opened in the 1970s, they had a pair there in the museum then, They were an original pair and as a kid I remember the guy saying that they belonged to Debbie Reynolds. Do you know anything about that? I think owned part of the park then. The park was closed for years and fell into vandalism. but they have worked hard to restore it. Great place to visit.

Wow!!! How interesting! I'll have to watch it again...I was cleaning house and doing laundry while listening. Now that I am taking a break, I am gonna listen again!!
Oh...another thing...Judy Garland was buried about 5 miles away from my home but also, Billie Burke and Flo Zigfield are buried at the bottom of the hill (as we locals say) in the Kensico Cemetery. So many celebs buried in my area of Westchester County, NY. I could go on and on about them all.
Thanks so much for this story!!! It was wonderfully done!!

Scott, does anyone know what happened to the wicked witch's crystal ball? Of all the movie memorabilia out there, that is the only thing I would ever buy (as if I could, totally fantasizing here.) You spoke about items being reused, I wonder if the studio still has it and has reused it. To my mind, that is the second iconic object in the movie. Thanks for what you do, I just love your videos.

Long before the Gumm home was moved and made into a musuem in Grand Rapids I was a camp counselor there in the summer of 1977. In the central square was the school-pretty run down- but I heard 'talk' that they were going to fix it up. At that time there were some shops inside so a bunch of us went inside(it was our afternoon off) to check it out. I went up a couple of flights to nosey around, and I spotted a glass case in the far corner--in it was a very dusty pair of ruby slippers...the only reason I decided they were real were several photographs of the movie 's production. I ran downstairs to drag some of the girls upstairs to see them.
A few years later Grand Rapids did much to improve the downtown, the shoes were moved to the Gumm home, and they hold the Judy Garland days every year. There is a yellowbrick pathway that was created by citizens purchasing the bricks. I am so glad I had this experience-it is a treasured memory of a great summer(except when Elvis died in August).👠

It's terrible that the FBI took credit for finding the Ruby Slippers.
I'll tell you - years ago ago my family went to the Smithsonian & saw Edith & Archie's chairs - then I was excited to see the GORGEOUS Ruby Slippers - and there a set were, under a glass dome, neglected & dusty. Very sad indeed. I've always wondered what the heck happened to Glinda's fabulously ✨ crown. It just seems to have vanished & no one seems to care! I was glad & very interested to hear the gown was refurbished & used again. It too was beautiful. ✨

The stolen pair (Michael Shaw's) are mis-matched to the pair owned by the Smithsonian. It would be appropriate - though a big deal to have happen - to exchange one shoe in each pair to make them match (see the buckles).

The FBI is making it sound like they worked so hard on getting these back. Truth is they wanted nothing to do with it and when GRPD asked for help there was negotiations in getting their help. The day they were recovered the FBI said that on that day if they were not recovered they would not work on it anymore. The FBI is taking all the credit despite the GRPD spent years chasing those shoes. And I’m not speaking out of my ass, I have first hand knowledge. Just ask me.

Man, I love this stuff. I have been a film freak since Universal monster movies were being rerun on tv and have a degree in Film History (absolutely useless, but anyway)... I remember when we got a color TV and saw "The Wizard of Oz" when it changes to color and I was dumbfounded. And after "That's Entertainment!" came out I became interested in musicals which I never cared about before.
In the book I believe she wears silver slippers, or maybe I'm confusing the Cinderella glass shoes having originally been fur slippers which was erroneously translated from the French to "glass"....

Ken Warner was a thief who profitted from selling stolen costumes. He never said to the studios, "Hey. Look at this iconic stuff I found. Maybe we should te-think this."
That was his obligation as an employee. It's all evidenced by the MGM auction in 1970. It was MGMs property, and Ken's job to sort through the valuables. Not steal them and sell it privately because "they'll never know."
Well, now we do know and is infuriating. To think that ALL of Ginger Rogers' iconic gowns (save one) are lost to history is just wrong. The scale of his crimes will never be quantified unless every item is returned.
Ken didn't "save" anything... except for himself.
