I thought the Atlantis gate had all of the symbols static and instead of the ring spinning, it would cycle through lighting up all of the symbols one by one until it got to the right symbol, then would lock the chevron and keep that symbol lit wherever it was on the ring, and then repeat the process for each chevron until the address was dialed on the gate.
The Atlantis stargates were considered "digital gates" and yes they had not spinnng inner ring. But instead, they used the same/similar dialing technique as the Milky Way gates, only with 38 simbols instead of 39. The Atlantis gate innter ring representing the symbols would be exactly lined up with the chevrons. The Todd animation is exactly as it should and actually a better representation then what was show on screen. As the symbols would follow there patch from their resting position to their respective chevron. After the gate deactivated, the symbol at the chevron would indicated the last symbol that was locked to the chevron. The pattern would or should change from continual use of the gate to the local gate system. This is the best animation of the Atlantis gate I've seen to date and proper.
SG1 gates are great and all, but I honestly just love the Pegasus ones so much more
