SonicWall TZ 270 Performance Review

In this performance review we look at the SonicWall TZ270 and how it actually performs when the security service features are turned on.
There are many ways to test performance and this is just a very basic approach, but one that is easy to replicate and gives and indicator of how the firewall will perform.

what can i get out of just the hardware itself ? do i have to purchase a subscrition just to get the crucial firewall functions and after the product registration and when the license expired
do this firewall become useless?

Hi, Good to hear from you. Out of the box the firewall will do routing, VPN. If you want to get the best out of it then you do need a security subscription, to give you things like Intrusion Prevention, Application Control etc. If you let the subscription lapse then the unit just goes back to doing Routing and VPN. Can NAT rules be toggled on/off easily? And, I would assume multiple WAN IP Addresses can be configured on the same, single WAN interface?

You can easily enable and disable NAT rules yes. Multiple WAN IP address is the same subnet can be applied to a single interface yes. You can do other options in routing if you have different subnets on the same ISP connection. I hope this helps.

This is actually still a really good appliance. The chipset was ahead of the curve 5 years ago and the firmware is still being regularly updated and the performance / security features are still rebust and trust worthy.

Hi. Great to hear from you. Yes this will work really well if you are a gamer and need protection. There are a good number of settings you can change to allow the games to work with no issues, but still receive protection.
