- Jimmy Page is widely regarded as the most legendary guitarists. You might have heard of the band he founded decades ago: Led Zeppelin. He has influenced countless other famous guitarists. But why? What makes him so different, so special? What does he have that others don’t? Let’s see the answer to that question.

This might sound dumb but I love his footwork when he plays live. Man is 100% style.

The live version of No Quarter from Song Remains the Same alone is god status.

I can't tell you how many times I've seen the song remains the same in fact I watched it last night and had to rewatch a couple songs over and over and over again, No Quarter being one of them another being Jimmy's solo on dazed and confused, and since I've been living you. Honestly I can watch it and listen to the album of the movie as I've already done countless times and I'm still in awe!

Yeah, it's too bad Kevin Shirley took an axe to a lot of great music. Jimmy usually keeps an eagle eye on things, but from what I've read, he was distracted during work on TSRTS reissue. Shirley sabotaged No Quarter, Celebration Day, Since I've Been Lovin' You...anyway, the original issue is better by far.
@@mielazul3600 I’ve always hated the movie because it is so poorly edited and the vignettes are childish. But the soundtrack is so incredible.
There’s only one ,the original Jimmy Page. So many “ guitarists “ try to be him, hair , young girls( possibly underage like Lori was. But no one comes close to the real Jimmy.

The lack of accuracy in a Page solo is why i love it so much. You can hear him working on an idea live and when he gets it and the rhythm section follows it creates magic.
He plays what he’s feeling, besides the basic structure, if he played the same every time he’d be boring like many others. If that’s sloppy, I’ll take his sloppy over technical every time.

In the early days, Page definitely had a leg-up on most other guitarists because of his session work, which started in the early 60’s. This was before the Beatles hit it big, or The Stones, The Yardbirds, The Who, Hendrix, Pink Floyd etc.
From those early days he understood recording and producing, and was able to take full control of Zeppelins sound from day 1. He knew how to get the most out of the studio, along with his and his bandmates talents. Now, was he the most technically fast or fluid player? Hell no, but he wrote sooo many classic riffs/songs, while produced all their albums, and influencing countless other guitarists. That being said, Zeppelin’s greatness came from all of them being so incredibly talented. But it was all Page’s brainchild. Therefore, his face should be on the ‘Mount Rushmore’ of
All Time Guitarist, for the entirety of his contributions to Rock N Roll.

Exactly! He done more for music, well at least Led Zeppelin’s music, then I believe any other band musician. From his amazing playing * creating great songs * putting together the greatest musicians * to getting complete control over their music * to producing mix & editing * to remastering & gathering all their music, & being the keeper & protector of it all. Who else has done all of those things?
There's no secret. It's in his DNA, his life, upbringing and and no small amount of right place right time. Oh yeah.. and hard work and determination. Seems like magic to those on the outside, but it aint
Genius, that is what i think everytime i think about his music!
To me his song riff writing ability is more impressive than his playing and i have spent more time than someone probably should dissecting it but the solo on the live version of No Quarter from the cd TSRTS(not the movie its a different version) is pretty darn impressive .

Why ? The coolest ever on stage , Great player , looked cool with amazing hair and cool outfits , The band was so powerful amazing. Been playing guitar for 40 years i saw an image of Steve Vai , He is on all the guitar magazine covers all the time . Cant name one of his songs nor can i remember his tone or style . I dont get it what it is about him .

Jimmy Page's playing is derived from American blues players' and alternate tuning folk guitarist Bert Jansch.
Surround such a guy with top notch musicians and..... we all know what happened.
You forget Skiffle. Skiffle was super popular in the UK during the 50s and early 60s. Page was part of a skiffle band in his teens before he went on to be a session player.

Like many younger people in that period mystic realms and wizard and witch, astrology, all of that stuff was popular. At least here in the states.
But, Jimmy probably got a kick out people being afraid of him, like David Bowie. Page was at Bowies place - i think a party - and Bowie was terrified that Page was going to or already put a spell on him while they were talking about the occult. Bowie accused Page and Page just sat there and smiled, saying nothing. Bowie told Page to leave and by the window. Page just smiled. Finally Bowie ordered him to leave period. Bowie had his place exorcised.
Then there were the stories about the main record office in NY and how people ran to hide when Jimmy came to visit.

Unpopular opinion - JP is possibly the sloppiest live guitarist ever...his solos are dreadful
Yes, it can get pretty bad sometimes, but it is said that he deals in emotion. A friend of mine who is considered a foremost Zeppelin scholar and interpreter for 50 plus years once said: "He's dirty but he gets the job done"

Yeah but he wrote some of the best rock licks of anyone. Mistakes are what make things interesting, within reason. Today's records are too perfect, you listen to them a few times and they become boring. I like perfect takes in a recording, but I don't mind his mistakes on records. You have to know when to fix something and when to leave it alone.
I am not a guitarist and can't play or sing a note. But, I love Page's guitar playing. Some sound so technical and perfect yet cannot connect with them. They almost sound like those stupid computerized instruments today. Technical but, there is nothing there. Nothing to grab you.
Listen to Stevie Ray and you are hooked. the same with Page.
Wow. What a dopey comment. That's why they're probably the greatest hard rock/hard rock blues band ever. He may not be a speed merchant. Especially by today's standards, but the man and the band are revered. The songs they wrote. The production techniques. The overall brilliance. Im a fan and I never ever thought he was the best of all time, but he's top 10, and Zeppelin is the best ever

Clapton was boring, Townshend wasn't as good and both were jealous. Van Halen was also jealous and if you play note for note from the album what's the point of playing live.
