Fascinating, really from the treasure chest! I'd love to be able to understand all the conversation and interaction. It seems they are not only working on the sound, but all facets of communication, for example the storytelling aspect of Paris's account of his encounter with the 3 goddesses in the Offenbach piece: "....LA troisième..."Thank you for posting!!! 🎼

I think Alagna isn't really fully appreciated, for some strange reason, as great a tenor as he is. It's our ugly times.
I have a performance fantasy---Alagna as Chalais, Fleming as Maria, Hvorostovsky as Chevreuse, in 'Maria di Rohan'. That would have been something.

Interesting, this was around the time of the Pavarotti competition. Would be interesting to hear some of his voice lessons, but since he claims to have been self taught, those cassette tapes may be more be difficult to find.

Well I get irritated when he “swoops” instead of hitting the note straight on the head and I find the tone too “spread” especially when volume is required but I come back to him every time after listening to other tenors. He is never boring. No 2 performances are alike. He has been accused of over acting but the music he is singing is intrinsically melodramatic and under acting is a far greater sin. I have enjoyed him now for 30 years . Domingo is the only other comparable tenor in roughly the same time period. All opinion and personal taste of course.
