I think Alagna isn't really fully appreciated, for some strange reason, as great a tenor as he is. It's our ugly times. I have a performance fantasy---Alagna as Chalais, Fleming as Maria, Hvorostovsky as Chevreuse, in 'Maria di Rohan'. That would have been something.
Interesting, this was around the time of the Pavarotti competition. Would be interesting to hear some of his voice lessons, but since he claims to have been self taught, those cassette tapes may be more be difficult to find.

Well I get irritated when he “swoops” instead of hitting the note straight on the head and I find the tone too “spread” especially when volume is required but I come back to him every time after listening to other tenors. He is never boring. No 2 performances are alike. He has been accused of over acting but the music he is singing is intrinsically melodramatic and under acting is a far greater sin. I have enjoyed him now for 30 years . Domingo is the only other comparable tenor in roughly the same time period. All opinion and personal taste of course.
The young Alagna is a miracle.

Quelle interprétation de « La solita storia del pastore » toute en nuances. Bravo!
One of the most beautiful tenor voices I have heard.
to prawda
He is a less not so sweet in timbre like baritone stefano.
Both are baries, but its a pitty story
Simone passed away in 2012 at age 101. Great composer, pianist and teacher.
Спасибо, что поделились этой записью. Хочу слушать его бесконечно.

Rien à voir avec des cours de chant.
Simone Féjard était chef de chant.

The young Alagna was easily one of the best lyric tenor of all times. A shame that he would proceed to wreck his voice.
He’s been wrecking his voice for over 30 years but still going.
Everything is screamed.
Why pianist didnt tell on forcing?
Wrong timbre
La pianiste ? Simone Féjard était aussi une chef de chant reconnue à l'opéra comique et à l'opéra de Paris.
