Nothing Phone (2): Intentionally cool

- The Nothing Phone (2) is undoubtedly a cool phone. But looking beneath the light-up exterior, I find myself gravitating to this phone because of a spirit of intentionality that seems to appear throughout. Maybe the Nothing Phone (2) manages to turn heads not just because of its glyphs, but because of something entirely more minimal.

Came for the review, stayed for the tea.
I think nothing has to make a smaller version of this cool looking phone.A 6 inch will be awesome.
Nowadays it's all about big
But sure if we do get smaller nothing Phone it's going to be a step behind the competitors and overpriced
Just get Pixel 6a or 7a, cheaper, better, best phones. I would get Pixel but they are too small for me :(
@@BlobBlobkins pixel 6a is honestly amazing for the casual user and it's so cheap Great value I'll definitely buy it the next couple of months unless the android 14 will improve the heating/battery on the pixel 7a whice btw the 14 beta actually doing a good job and there's improvement
@@BlobBlobkins they are garbage brand
@@mikefox181 any suggestions?
I love your tea breaks joshua. They are so unique
Still not going to put the phone face down on a gritty table.
hence a screen protector/tempered glass
definitely keeping my eye out for future nothing phone generations. When they grow even bigger and eventually start promising 4 years OS updates ill definitely switch to it.
It shame that Apple didn’t made this design. It’s very fresh design for the last 10 years. Will buy when price will drop to 500$
I love the idea of LED’s I miss on my older androids how there were different colour notification lights.
Love your commentary and mannerisms, extremely refreshing and pleasant for a TechTuber!
I had an intrusive thought just right when the tea break started. And it really helped me to just move past it. Stayed for the tea.
Thank you for the video Joshua. Very very informative.
I really appreciate the tea time. It gives me a whole new perspective on tech videos
bro gave a spiritual enlightenment before the review. it may not be much for most but some people will really appreciate that part , including me.
Loved this tea break and video, thanks for the advice Josh.
1:52 would be cool if there’s a way to tap the back to kill the timer.
Buy this Nothing Phone 2 is amazing 👌
I would love nothing phone with 6.1 inch similar to the size of s23 or iphone
Enjoying the video on my nothing phone 2 ❤
Amen! Nicely done! 😊
Thanks for another great review ❤
Always enjoy your videos but for me it’s a coffee ☕️ break.
I loved the intro and the reminder to unplug!
Finally. He has a gongfu setup, I'm so happy 😊
Is no one going to mention the awesome Best Friend shirt Josh is wearing? Best restaurant in Vegas, by far. (And, as always, excellent review)
Basically the nothing phone offers nothing of practical use and is a real chore to use its main glyph gimmick. To get a better value (not price), get a normal phone, turn on always-on-display, utilize the focus mode, use a minimalist icon pack and optionally use a new minimalist launcher. All while not buying into the sunk-cost fallacy to intentionally force yourself into using a bunch of flashing lights for cool points.
If you can't see that this phone is so much more than glyph light, you might be technologically illiterate
I just wish they used a proper 8+ gen1 chip, same with Xiaomi in the Poco f5 pro- they have actually used a under-clocked version while still advertising it as a full blown one. Pretty grubby if you ask me. But still, it's a good performer and phone for the price in the UK at least
But the optimisation make it's better
Watching from my Phone (1).
I was disappointed as you never reviewed it, so will never know your thoughts on it 😅
Hope you are well my friend, you look sad. Best wishes!

"Yeah!"
I was looking forward to the NP2 as I was impressed by the continuous efforts N made to improve the NP1, but am not able to bring myself to go for it.
And, N is stuck with the glyph which to me just isn't worth the hype; its just a gimmick actually.
Neither is the robotic sounding ringtone composer.
The value proposition just doesn't add up for me.
Glyph aside, this phone's hardware and software optimisation is crazy good. Don't focus on the glyph interface only. You don't need to use the robotic ringtone composer either. There's so much on offer here, the specs are top quality, combined with their optimisation, the phone is top-tier. The glyph isn't the intriguing bit, it's the software.
@@dharambasi1928yeah the nothingOs worth 599 like come on
Camera are still not good as expected stabilizion, colors are bad , selfie is mid also no 4k selfie
Mic is also bad
No waterproof ip68
Speaker are mid
U get updates and u are so thankful like legit it's their job cuz the the experience is messed up
New flash every skin is smooth
some has bloatware but not a big deal
At the end the price has a huge play and as for the competition nothing phone not worth it
If the price wasn't there would have been interesting but we are taking 5-6 months after the launch for a better experience overall
I'll wait for Nothing Phone 3 to come out with a 5000 mAh Battery hopefully.
Price Quality is a very good smartphone
One of if not best review I've seen on this phone 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
That shirt though 🤔
So you saying this video dont have a sponsor ...
HEY ! Show SOUND SETTINGS, AUDIO SETTINGS, EQUALIZER, CONNECT BLUETOOTH SPEAKER? CAR AUDIO???
No telephoto lens , no IP68 rating, no esim support , is it a good buy for its price ?
A bit of CBT with your tea. Lol.
There you have it, folks. Eleven and a half minutes of talk about Nothing. 😂
u r voice is very similar to a men in india member of lok sabha name as Shashi Tharoor
unfortunately for the price it shouldn't have black crush screeen and suck set of speakers...
Too expensive for Europe unfortunately, almost the same price with S23 Ultra 8/256...
699? S23U? 😮
S23 ultra is above 1000euros so bs
Thanks for the review. The entire Glyph interface doesn't make sense to me. For example, in your use case when the timer goes, you have to lift the phone, turn it around and turn on the interface, drop down the notifications, and then turn off the timer. That's a shame. Also, not everyone is interested to keep the screen down on the surface as not all surfaces are like your tea table 😂. If Karl thinks the Glyph interface helps, he has to introduce it on the front borders of the phone (Just my opinion) and give the option to choose either Glyph or AOD.
100% its a marketing gimmick that is not practical day-to-day nor really useful when all of those glyph functions can be replaced by always-on-display. The idea of putting the screen down all the time to justify using the glyphs seems like a real chore. If i want focus, i can just turn on the focus mode (do not disturb) for a few hours and set a few specifics exceptions from family.
@@CerealforProtein I bought the phone with the same mindset. Didn't really care about it but I liked the phone overall but now that I'm using it, I actually find it pretty useful.
Everytime a notification or something pops up, AOD doesn't tell you that very visibly. You have to literally check your phone. The glyphs can tell you that something is happening from afar. Thus you will know that there is some notification and don't have to check your phone every 5 minutes. And when you miss it, it even stays on with the essential glyph. The flip to glyph is just a cool function and pretty useful to me. Yes, I can turn do not disturb mode but that's not what I actually want, it's like a vibration mode but for eyes which is refreshing.
Comes with a pre installed screen protector, that's what people don't know . Put a clear case on it and there be no issues.. I put mine face down at night . It's fine
@@CerealforProteinor maybe your just lazy and have to have your phone facing up all the time.. you know the purpose of the lights right . I assume your a little smart ..
can you review honor 90 and vivo v27 cameras? thanks!
The phone is a good proposal for the American market that there are not many options and more for that price $599 ☝️
Hi, how is the screen brightness on a sunny day comparing to Pixel 7??? 😊
It's a better display then the pixel 7, much cleaner and brighter
Really enjoyed the review joshua. Great work. Cheers and love from india.
So im going to hit on something that people miss. The sound through buds is absolute garbage. Honestly it's terrible and I dont know why reviewers miss it. There's no clarity in the midrange at all. All the sounds come out as squashed together. And mid in general is pretty Sharpe. It's definitely the output of the phone because when I connect my nothing ear 2 to my Nokia XR21 and use a downloaded good quality EQ, it just sounds better. It doesn't matter if you use Tidal, SoundCloud, RUclips music. On the nothing phone with ear 2, it sounds bad even with advanced EQ and high quality audio selected in settings. Also when I connect my ear 2 to my iPhone 14PM, again it just sounds so much better on said streaming apps. So obviously this is something to do with the NP2s output. I'm no audiophile, but it's as plain as day. I tried beats studio 3s on the NP2 and again it's just not good quality output. It's odd as I never had this with my NP1. It's probably not a deal breaker for many but if your into music, it definitely is. It's not just my device as a friend of mine bought one too and it's exactly the same.

This phone Scratches easily, has software glitches & i never place my phone face down. My S23 Ultra is a beast & I'll stick with Samsung
It’s a fun gimmick, but completely useless. Cool but compromised, and a weird Morse code that’s a desperate attempt to substitute actually using the screen.
Actually its been quite useful for me
@@Videohead-eq5cy If it makes you happy…
It's useful since most phones nowadays lack notification LEDs. Kind of reminds me of the Xperia SP.
Useless to YOU doesn't mean it's completely useless. It just means you're not the market for it. It may help you to realize there are millions of users that are NOT you.
@@pixels_per_inch But you have to keep the phone screen down for that “feature” when it was always on the screen side. And always on displays are much more useful today
Wise words spoken on the tea break 🫡. As always great video

Terrible speakers. Do not buy this phone unless you want Gameboy Color tier speaker quality. You've been warned.
Stereo separation is good, but lacks bass.
But comparing it to Gameboy color speakers. Lol. Love hearing stupid shit like this, mostly because it shows how overdramatic people can be.
What's up with everybody complaining about speakers? I've never in my life used or seen anyone using it as a replacement of a normal speakers. I only use headphones, native speakers for the basic notification sounds and mild use at home when I don't really care about sound. Every phone sounds kinda bad imo but in comparison this doesn't sound bad at all.
@@spacewolf363simple. Because it's bad. That's it
Is it the flagship killer or not?
Nope
Hell YeaH 🔥🔥🔥
It's a flagship
Lol
Midrange flagship killer. Lol
is this good for audiophile people @joshua vergara

I was really looking forward to this phone but the glyph thing is off-putting. I rarely keep my phone face down. If I do, I don't want to be distracted by any lights. Then using a Google assistant command is much faster than this whole process to set a simple timer. I really do like what they have done with the software though and I think some of the widget functionality is coming to android 14. Thank you for your review!
I believe you can disable the glyph lights. You could also buy a case that covers up the lights.
@@emmanuel-sa Agreed but I dont see any point if its promoted as a unique feature of the phone...here in Europe it is much more expensive than the US and considering some of the other cuts they have made(cameras, ip rating and older processor) it is overpriced imo.
Tu puedes desactivar las luces del glifo, además que puedes configurar para la intensidad del brillo del glifo. Por cierto se ve mucho mejor los glifo en color blanco
@@emmanuel-sabasically the main selling point is useless in every practical scenario.
How are you looking forward for a phone whose main selling feature is the glyph feature?
