That Harry Potter scene will forever be iconic. It was at the darkest moment of the whole franchise and the song was used perfectly this song is like 90% melancholic then at end the beat pick up and just when you start being upbeat the song ends. Harry and Hermione were at their lowest point and for a split second they forgot about Voldermort they forgot about horcruxs then before they even start to enjoy the moment then the song ended thus bringing them back to reality.
It also reflects Harry and Hermione's true background, that they are really ordinary people from an ordinary world, how they weren't born into a world of magic and how they still remember and have connections with songs like this from perhaps their childhood. In a way, this song feels like they are reminiscing about the simpler times in life, when their lives weren't clouded with Voldemort and the dark forces that magic can have.
This song is so different from how I thought it would be (yes, I came here because of HP). This song is so much more powerful than the small sampling they used in the movie. Really glad I found this.
I'm listening to this song for 5 days in a row. By 5 days a I mean literally 5 days! This is the first thing I hear when I wake up and the last when I go to sleep... great song really awesome!
Addicted to this song. Amazed that Nick Cave just never quite sucks. Good thing this song was played in that Harry Potter movie - youth should get to know Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds. I see a lot of comments of people saying they found out about this band because of that movie. Well done, lads.
whenever a good song becomes more popular than it once was through movie or television, some people always feel the need to express how superior they believe themselves to be. i study classical music, and people discover the genre through such media all the time, and i couldn't be happier that motion pictures are spreading good music to its fans.
I think that scene was one of my favorites from any movie ever. I think the fact that they made it so unromantic was the reason it was so great. Just two friends trying to cheer eachother up.
It is said that Dan Radcliffe listened to alot of Nick Cave while filming DH! I think I was the only one in the theater that knew the song. Not too many Nick Cave fans in the U.S. But we are here. I even surprised my 23 year old daughter when I was able to name the song and artist... LOL.. she never heard of him. But she does now!!
+Hunter S. Thompson Poor Nick and Susie, and Earl, and the whole family. Poor us too, we'll never see him tour again. Just hope he stays alive and makes a little more music, if he can.
It was an amazing scene in the hpmovie, but the song by itself, is fantastic ! The song was in the right place in the movie ! I loved it, and I love the song !
love song...???? "O Children" Pass me that lovely little gun My dear, my darling one The cleaners are coming, one by one You don't even want to let them start They are knocking now upon your door They measure the room, they know the score They're mopping up the butcher's floor Of your broken little hearts O children Forgive us now for what we've done It started out as a bit of fun Here, take these before we run away The keys to the gulag O children Lift up your voice, lift up your voice Children Rejoice, rejoice Here comes Frank and poor old Jim They're gathering round with all my friends We're older now, the light is dim And you are only just beginning O children We have the answer to all your fears It's short, it's simple, it's crystal clear It's round about and it's somewhere here Lost amongst our winnings O children Lift up your voice, lift up your voice Children Rejoice, rejoice The cleaners have done their job on you They're hip to it, man, they're in the groove They've hosed you down, you're good as new They're lining up to inspect you O children Poor old Jim's white as a ghost He's found the answer that we lost We're all weeping now, weeping because There ain't nothing we can do to protect you O children Lift up your voice, lift up your voice Children Rejoice, rejoice Hey little train! We are all jumping on The train that goes to the Kingdom We're happy, Ma, we're having fun And the train ain't even left the station Hey, little train! Wait for me! I once was blind but now I see Have you left a seat for me? Is that such a stretch of the imagination? Hey little train! Wait for me! I was held in chains but now I'm free I'm hanging in there, don't you see In this process of elimination Hey little train! We are all jumping on The train that goes to the Kingdom We're happy, Ma, we're having fun It's beyond my wildest expectation Hey little train! We are all jumping on The train that goes to the Kingdom We're happy, Ma, we're having fun And the train ain't even left the station
I've loved Nick Cave ever since I chanced upon From Her To Eternity in the 90's. Thank you for putting this song up. If you guys like this song, you should check out his older songs from the 80's.
Sad to see all the hate in the comments over people saying where they heard the song from. Who cares? If you heard it beforehand, awesome. Heard it from Harry Potter like many? That's great too. Sit down and appreciate the music, that's the intention. Not useless and unneeded dribble over people with self-importance issues. I'm just glad this song got the recognition it deserved, no matter she'd that was from.
pajo thats exactly what Matt was saying mate. there IS nothing wrong with posting where you first heard this great song. unfortunatly some people can't understand that.
I mean, I’m not old, I found this song from Harry Potter, but I’m not an idiot. I don’t associate this song as nothing but “that song in Harry Potter”. I was introduced to the song through Harry Potter, sure, but I, you know, became a fan of the band, and I really am annoyed that no one is talking about how the song is good, but instead about the fact that it was good in Harry Potter, that’s annoying. There can only be so many “who’s here from Harry Potter” and “Harry Potter was the best” comments, and like everyone else I’m sick and tired of them.
Such a gorgeous, tragic song, regardless of whatever other meanings it may or may not have taken on since Nick wrote it, and regardless of where anyone may or may not have first heard it.
This is a really interesting choice for Harry Potter. It's rich and meaningful with it's own story, and like anything that's successfully mixed with something completely different (HP&Deathly Hallows), they both make a beautiful bridge to each other. I like it-the mix and the song all by itself.
I know nick cave because of harry potter now i listen to all his songs and i wish i can attend one of his concerts when i'm depressed i know the only rejoice is in his music...

Love how people try to justify themselves or ridicule others over when they heard the song. Some heard this through Harry Potter, some (like myself) are fans of Nick Cave and knew of it before....but possibly got a reminder watching the film. It doesn't matter what movie the song is in, it doesn't change the fact this is a truly amazing song. I love the opening scene, and this part of harmione dancing most. they are simply beautiful and meaningful... glad i could find the song this quick...the melody is epic
I was watching Deathly Hallows with my friend and as soon as this song came on, we both looked at each other like :O! We dedicated our lives to finding out what it was. It's really a great song.
aaah I'm such a big fan of nick Cave and as in the Harry Potter Movie this song appeared the whole scene became sooo magic:) it was one of my favourite scenes of Harry Potter EVER
ugh why do people complain that it was harry potter that brought some people here? if you're a true fan of Nick Cave then you should be happy for the extra publicity/appreciation he's getting. Potter fans arent doing anything wrong, its also great there was such great music on harry potter!
I can't stop listening to this. I think it's a bit of a crime to know it just from Harry Potter, but thats where I found it too. It is fantastic and so poignant to have it in there, and, like many other people, I feel like the last film is the end of my childhood- I'm 21 so my childhood ended a while ago, but now it feels really over. I grew up with HP. I will always love it, even when I'm old and grey.
Had a small moment when I heard this in the movie. Nick Cave is amazing. So glad his music is getting out to a new audience who might not have heard him otherwise.
this song brings me to tears and i don't know why i mean i was just sitting there listening to the words and singing along then my voice cracked and i cried
Well, I first heard this song in HPatDH Part 1, but I searched this song simply by typing "nick cave" in the search bar and finding this in the suggestions. Therefore I did get here solely upon good taste in music. :)
Man the way y'all are describing the end of Harry Potter hits me with reality of how I'm not a kid no more and how much more complicated life is going to get. It's sad but it really helps me appreciate my childhood and all of the memories with it. It's going to be hard to watch the credits roll at the end of Deathly Hallows part 2. I hope I don't end up crying.
While I love Nick Cave, I did hear this song in the movie - and I'm happy I did. Thumbs up if during the dance, you wondered what could have happened if it went differently. If you're a Harmonizer.
Listening to something like this makes me feel alive, truly alive. It makes me so thankful for all that I have, and for my God. I wish the situation were right so you could look into my eyes as I say this. For those of you who don't believe that God is real, I am telling you from the depths of my heart, my soul, my being, from every single thing that I am, that He is real. I wish you could see the? feeling in my eyes, I wish you could feel the aching in my heart for you to know this truth.
ok so ive always heard of nick cave and the bad seeds but made the mistake of never going out and grabbibng an album or having a listen online. The 2 songs ive listened to are "hold onto yourself" and this song "o children". So so good. how the hell am i not supposed to want to sink into a chair with a bottle or whatever other vice you might find essential and just stay there until the end of the album or begining of the morning? Such good music.
I came here because someone told me about the Nick Cave/Warren Ellis partnership. Kinda cool that it got used in a movie so entwined with the current pop culture.
I came here for Nick Cave.
And he brought me here.
And he kept me here.
And he will make me return.
That Harry Potter scene will forever be iconic. Best scene in Harry Potter, this song fit it so perfectly
I'm oh-so happy I found this song.
I cried while watching the dance scene and I told myself I'd come find this song... :)
Simply breath-taking.
At 2:09am, this song only gets better each time you click the replay button. This song really speaks to me.
My choir got to perform with Nick Cave at the Bill Graham theater in SF. It was one of the funnest experiences of my life.
This song totally makes me cry every time I hear it.
I really don't want that day to come where i get sick of this song...
its sad i only hear great songs like this in movies. Props to this great series. It was amazing.
This song is so different from how I thought it would be (yes, I came here because of HP). This song is so much more powerful than the small sampling they used in the movie. Really glad I found this.

I've listened this song and the whole albul a hundred times!... One of the best Rock'N'Roll album... It takes a special place in my life...
Yeah, it is beautiful Tony. It grabbed hold of me from the first track as well.
I think that scene was one of my favorites from any movie ever. I think the fact that they made it so unromantic was the reason it was so great. Just two friends trying to cheer eachother up.
To all those saying "Thumbs up if you knew album before they came out",
Well, Thumbs up if you're glad you were introduced to this song! :)
5:30-6:53 best moment :)
i can listen to this over and over and it's still beautiful
Just thinking back at this scene with this song makes me want to cry and smile at the same time...
Doesn't matter how people hear it,,,,as long as they do & like it!!
Anyone else get full body chills as the female choir comes into the mix? >
This song is a masterpiece!!!!
Nick Cave and the bad seeds are really good.
But the world of brainwashed prefer Dua Lipa, Justin Bieber, Taylor swift........
I heard Nick Cave's son died today. I was sorry to hear it, no father should have to experience his son's death.
Tragic.
When it's all over, the books, the movies, you will find me rolling around on the movie theater floor crying :'(
Powerful love song ... Blows my mind
love song...????
"O Children"
Pass me that lovely little gun
My dear, my darling one
The cleaners are coming, one by one
You don't even want to let them start
They are knocking now upon your door
They measure the room, they know the score
They're mopping up the butcher's floor
Of your broken little hearts
O children
Forgive us now for what we've done
It started out as a bit of fun
Here, take these before we run away
The keys to the gulag
O children
Lift up your voice, lift up your voice
Children
Rejoice, rejoice
Here comes Frank and poor old Jim
They're gathering round with all my friends
We're older now, the light is dim
And you are only just beginning
O children
We have the answer to all your fears
It's short, it's simple, it's crystal clear
It's round about and it's somewhere here
Lost amongst our winnings
O children
Lift up your voice, lift up your voice
Children
Rejoice, rejoice
The cleaners have done their job on you
They're hip to it, man, they're in the groove
They've hosed you down, you're good as new
They're lining up to inspect you
O children
Poor old Jim's white as a ghost
He's found the answer that we lost
We're all weeping now, weeping because
There ain't nothing we can do to protect you
O children
Lift up your voice, lift up your voice
Children
Rejoice, rejoice
Hey little train! We are all jumping on
The train that goes to the Kingdom
We're happy, Ma, we're having fun
And the train ain't even left the station
Hey, little train! Wait for me!
I once was blind but now I see
Have you left a seat for me?
Is that such a stretch of the imagination?
Hey little train! Wait for me!
I was held in chains but now I'm free
I'm hanging in there, don't you see
In this process of elimination
Hey little train! We are all jumping on
The train that goes to the Kingdom
We're happy, Ma, we're having fun
It's beyond my wildest expectation
Hey little train! We are all jumping on
The train that goes to the Kingdom
We're happy, Ma, we're having fun
And the train ain't even left the station
Lol! Did you say that to get a reaction or something? Haha
Lol.. I think she got the impression coz of that scene from Harry Potter.. :P
I loved this song, I loved that scene, I loved that film, =D

jst watched the movie & fell in love with this song :)!!!!
I've loved Nick Cave ever since I chanced upon From Her To Eternity in the 90's. Thank you for putting this song up. If you guys like this song, you should check out his older songs from the 80's.
amazing how a song can capture so much sadness. this might be the saddest, the most desperate song by Cave ever.
Concordo com tudo o que você disse, é assim que as pessoas deveriam pensar.
O importante é que agora mais pessoas podem apreciar a música.
Exactly. It's amazing how people can find new music not just by searching for it, but by hearing it in ads, movies, and more.
Spot on Matt. Could not have set it better.
pajo thats exactly what Matt was saying mate. there IS nothing wrong with posting where you first heard this great song. unfortunatly some people can't understand that.
Yeah, I think the meaning of my comment got lost in translation for him.
like father like son...love it
god i love that song. i was close to cry in the movies. when harry danced with hermione.....and now i found the song...........thanks so much
All you old folks complaining stop. Be happy that Nick Cave reached a younger audience.
Fukk off, stupid child.
I know right! I told my a lady that I liked him and she got so annoyed claiming that if I'm young I can't truly like him???
I mean, I’m not old, I found this song from Harry Potter, but I’m not an idiot. I don’t associate this song as nothing but “that song in Harry Potter”. Agreed. Coming from an old folk. Lol So glad you appreciate this music!
This is the magic of the music, how a song can get you and make you feel something so deep and special!!
Such a gorgeous, tragic song, regardless of whatever other meanings it may or may not have taken on since Nick wrote it, and regardless of where anyone may or may not have first heard it.
how the hell is this not on rolling stones 500 greatest songs. jesus this is amazing.
This song is my new obsession, its so soothing, I think I've replayed it about 30 times now...
thank you nick and the bad seeds this is the most beautiful song i ever heard

Thumbs up, if watching the HP film just reminded you how much you loved this song in the first place.
My heart goes out to Nick Cave, it's the best we can do.
I must admit, I do love this song, Nick Cave is a legend.

I cry everytime I watch that scene and hear this song.
I so love this song - it still makes me cry! Astonishing!
Love how people try to justify themselves or ridicule others over when they heard the song. So thank the movie for saving my generation.
Never set a song you like as your alarm, you'll hate it sooner or later.
... and nostalgia, damn I finished the series two days ago and I'm already nostalgic...
this song makes me so sad, so many memories, but i still love it
I love the opening scene, and this part of harmione dancing most. they are simply beautiful and meaningful... glad i could find the song this quick...the melody is epic
It's new years day, and I'm listening to Nick Cave at 3am. I am so damn sad right now,
I never thought the only non-original song in the Harry Potter series would be by Cave! Good choice
I was watching Deathly Hallows with my friend and as soon as this song came on, we both looked at each other like :O! We dedicated our lives to finding out what it was. It's really a great song.
Happiest scene of the movie, even though it was sad.
SICK how good this guy is
aaah I'm such a big fan of nick Cave and as in the Harry Potter Movie this song appeared the whole scene became sooo magic:)
it was one of my favourite scenes of Harry Potter EVER
an amazing song by an unbelievably talented artist. Nick cave is a man whom i respect and admire and this song shows his pure genious
the chorus in the movie is what got me! being strung out to the end of the song makes the crash a bit more dramatic!
ugh why do people complain that it was harry potter that brought some people here? if you're a true fan of Nick Cave then you should be happy for the extra publicity/appreciation he's getting. Potter fans arent doing anything wrong, its also great there was such great music on harry potter!
i literally cannot listen to this song without tearing up
one of my nick caves favorites!!
this was such a beautifully chosen song to be the only real song in harry potter.
i love this song.
I want to listen to this song in a dark room while stoned. It would be awesome.
Had a small moment when I heard this in the movie. Nick Cave is amazing. So glad his music is getting out to a new audience who might not have heard him otherwise.
Me too. It was so beautiful in the movie, and Im glad I found it
i'm going to cry. This song is awesome!
My fave secene from Deathly Hallows pt1! Gives me goosebumps eveytime i hear this song and reminds me of Harry and Hermiones friendship.
i'm obsessed with this
This was the most beautiful and artistically-done scene in the new Harry Potter movie.
The person in charged with picking the song, listened to over 100 songs until finding this masterpiece.
this song brings me to tears and i don't know why i mean i was just sitting there listening to the words and singing along then my voice cracked and i cried
just breathtaking..
I really love the scene on DH...it was bittersweet
That was the loveliest scene I have seen for a while. The music made it, as always.
I love this song... I don't have a lot of words about this... JUST AMAZING....
I fell in love with this song thanks to HP7. To me this absolutely made the movie :)
While I love Nick Cave, I did hear this song in the movie - and I'm happy I did.
Thumbs up if during the dance, you wondered what could have happened if it went differently.
If you're a Harmonizer.
Beautiful Song.........
Never heard this song before until Harry Potter. I absolutely love it. It's such a beautiful yet haunting song.
Listen to this while thinking of all the good times I've had those 10 years HP has been out, and how exited I've been to watch the movies at cinema :)
Thumbs up if you you found this because of good taste in music!
Listening to something like this makes me feel alive, truly alive. It makes me so thankful for all that I have, and for my God. I cried at the scene with harry and hermione.. i never cry when watching movie. They did such a good job making it its amazing :)
simply amazing song. thanks for diamonds like that.
that tiny moment of hope inside a storm of bullshit
Perfect song, best scene!!
song I didn't know yet, Nick Cave old favorite, glad to have heard this. Thanks goodness don't understand anything about the Harry Potter fuzz.
Simply amazing....
this song hits some part of my emotion and gives me chills
ok so ive always heard of nick cave and the bad seeds but made the mistake of never going out and grabbibng an album or having a listen online. The 2 songs ive listened to are "hold onto yourself" and this song "o children". So so good. how the hell am i not supposed to want to sink into a chair with a bottle or whatever other vice you might find essential and just stay there until the end of the album or begining of the morning? Such good music.
Agreed, it is sublime. ''The Boatman's Call'' also. Some amazing jewels on ''B-Sides and Rarities''. And.. well, most of them actually!
I came here because someone told me about the Nick Cave/Warren Ellis partnership. Kinda cool that it got used in a movie so entwined with the current pop culture.
