Metal Slug: One Life Game (Level-8)

I redid my MS1 one life game because of audio issues in the original (and also because the more I think about it the more I doubt it was ACTUALLY on Level-8 but shssh!). The older videos are still available, with their privacy set to unlisted. You can find the playlist for the old playthrough here:

While most video game franchises only get more complicated with extra characters and mechanics added into later games, one might actually make the argument that the first Metal Slug game is mechanically the most complex. It has several niches and nuances that never made it back to later games, such as specific death animations, accurately coloured hit sparks from Vulcan Cannons, enemy soldiers climbing onto your Slug vehicle, and even an odd short hop that allows for quicker Slug entry. Metal Slug is a video game that never did seem to take itself seriously, allowing you to drop enemy tanks onto other enemy tanks, having enemy soldiers electrocute themselves, and so on. Yet, in spite of this, it is still a challenge to one life clear this game, due to the horrendo- I mean, rich in character controls. Call me stupid, call me crazy, call me drunk, or even claim I'm using cheats if you want, but I swear to god some enemy projectiles, like the Bazooka soldiers and Grenade throwing soldiers, actually have a small amount of homing capability on the player. I haven't really studied it extensively, but in comparison to the later games that control way better and have simpler mechanics, I could swear projectiles home in onto the player in Metal Slug 1.
Metal Slug 1 has a unique charm to it that other games in the series seem to have lost; even the ones developed by SNK themselves before their unfortunate bankruptcy in 2000. Other games controlled far better, but were more intent on providing a challenge as a result, whereas Metal Slug 1 seemed more concerned with making you laugh more than anything, and isn't that what video games fundamentally are? To make us smile?

CHEATER CONFIRMED! When I played this in the arcade I shot the bosses for 2 years non stop and they didn't die here they dropped in like 2 hits what a sham I clearly don't know the mechanics of the game nor do I have any reflexes to save my own life so I'll feel better about myself by devoting my time to trying to tear down those who can do what I can't instead of practicing more and learning more if I think I'm so good why don't I try doing a one life run on level 8 and gain millions of subscribers and show off to everyone how good I am assuming that's even the point of these videos... wait, why do people put out videos of metal slug anyway what a fucking loser u are get a life bro fortnite's where it's at OLD MAN.
