I was just looking at copart lol that’s what brings me here because there is a lot of flooded cars from the storm in the city was just interested in what the damage would be with a car going through that
Remove plugs. If it’s a truck, drain all fluids. Diffs, trans, t-case, oil. Put some oil on pistons, let it sit, then manually crank motor as he said. Make sure everything is clean and smooth turning.
Bro where's part 2 as promised prove all these guys wrong please i have alot of faith in you. All these guys are inspired by mercedes dealerships so theyre mad knowing that this is the way things are done in the real world. Please part 2 to prove them wrong my brother, love your work and keep talking haters will hate.
My car got engine exhaust flooded and the oil pan busted out the bottom horrible weather out here. Still waiting to see if it’s totaled lowkey just want them to total it so I can just get a truck instead.
so its been almost 5 years now .. how did this is repair project go on the flooded vehicle ..? is it still running ? did other problems come up..? were there issues you wish you had done differently? did the wife like this car and is still using it or maybe onky sold it to upgrade but had a great run with it..? please do tell .. am hoping to hear!
Hi, I have a question. I had my car under water for few days, unfortunately, over 1,20 m (Chevrolet Orlando) so not completely. Flooded for about 15-20 min. I did bring the car to garage the next day. The first thing they did is to put the contract (without stating the car) because they wanted to open the windows. I did tell them that it’s a very bad idea because the car was completely wet but they did it anyway. I have the feeling that they damage the car even more... What do you think about?! Thanks!!!!!
I think the biggest issue which is truly unfixable is that any of the wire ends that were submerged in saltwater will have wicked up the water and over time will corrode. The only solution is a complete new wire harness. But I would think you you can still get many years of use out of the car before the wire totally disintegrates.
@AExVortex I would for sure try to fix it. It may be fine and never have an issue. It may not. But there is definitely a greater possibility for corrosion than for a car that has never been in saltwater. If I ever sold it, I would fully disclose to the buyer what had happened. If I had to choose between buying a car that had been submerged in saltwater vs. one that had not, I'd only take the risk on the submerged car if it were substantially cheaper than a never flooded car.
@@davidbenji1 i got stuck and it flooded where it got stuck the day after i got stuck i was supposed to get the day it flooded but we couldn't so we left it and water got inside and even mud inside water definitely got inside so idk if i wanna fix it i was looking around on RUclips and heard it has a very high chance of corrosion if the water went to the steering wheel so i might just put it in the junk yard
@AExVortex You could check out a video by Chris of No Nonsense Know How (YT channel) where his Toyota Tundra (I believe) went totally underwater at the boat ramp and he cleaned it and got it running again. I think it's worth a try if you have the time. Good luck!
because it's salt water I would recommend just buying a new harness. salt water can get deep in the wiring and it's not for some time to the issues pop up.
New subscriber here. Thank you for your videos. They are designing automobiles that make it difficult for shade tree mechanics. I prefer older vehicles. Do you have a video that will show how to restore a vehicle that has gone through an EMP??
Actually, crimping is faster to do, and stronger than soldering. Also not as dangerous. Not every wire must be soldered, or can be soldered. Using the correct connector, and the correct tool to crimp, is the better way to go. He used the correct crimping tool for the job he was doing.
i just seen a beautiful looking BMW flooded think it was a new M5 its a shame! i wonder if it will ever be fixed? it must of been standing it water for some time it got pulled out and towed away think the place it flooded was called rushford ford in uk.
I noticed that the quality of wires itself on American Cars is very low in comparison to Japanese, European and Korean models that uses a thicker gauge and stronger wires that sustain long years without being affected by heat and brittle to break specially under tilted steering columns and doors. Great project to rebuild a nice luxury and Great cars. Enjoy
But how do you get the odor out? My car didn’t flood but i bagged a bunch of wet grass clippings and forgot them in the trunk of my suv and the next day horrible smell and windows had moisture on them. Got it detailed but smell still there. I need help.
Hopefully you have it fixed already, but for my car I had to use a carpet cleaner to clean out a rained out interior. Detailers typically will do a spray/powder and vacuum vs full carpet cleaner. Ones that have the the attachment. Plus baking soda can also help, and vacuum if you don’t want to the full monte. Hopefully helpful in your situation.
I restored my 2016 toyota camry also from Irma and you can never tell I only had to replace the tail lights harness and of course new fuel lines filter an had the tank retreated but went with all new ones just to be on the safe side
If you got a flooded car can’t you just get a parts car as well? One that’s damaged but has the engine , seats and all electrical components and just grind off any rust on the frame ?
Never buy a flood car if you look under the dash in the the computers will be rusted badly unless water hasn't gotten to it check under the carpet for moisture, damp carpet molding and moldy seats also look in the air filter for water
0:57 "There is no right or wrong way to restore a flooded vehicle" Yes...there is a wrong way....exactly how you "restored" this vehicle. Really crimp-on butt connectors. You didn't restore that vehicle, you did nothing more than a hack job. Hopefully your wife doesn't get hurt in this cobbled together piece of crap.
My friend and his brother rebuilt a 1991 Nissan GT-R n1 after it was in a tsunami in Japan........oh Jesus Christ the amount of work he had to do on it basically had to replace everything on it but hey he rebuilt his in laws GT-R that can top out at 370 kph but apparently he and his brother in law may joined the trend of ev conversion on the GT-R. If Toyota can convert two ae86s to evs then why tf not ok a gtr 😅
Video was not good, did not show how center consul pops out, it may seem like a simple thing to do and you can do it in your sleep, but we people who need to watch these diy can't see how it's done.
I worked for an auto insurance company as an adjuster. These cars are the worst investment you can ever make. They are totaled for a reason. The time it takes to fix is quiete lengthy. Most dealers that sell those don’t take the time and you’re driving a ticking time bomb.
Never buy a Salt water car ... I got 6 back in 2014 took me a bit of time to go over each and every one . I got a F150 clean water that was only a trans rebuilt and a clean up used it for over 70k miles with min problems ... some parts they go just because you cannot grease them...
@gaby bobocea My uncle told me the same thing, he said its the minerals that short the cars out and that putting computer components in iso-alcohol will lift the minerals with a better chance of ecu and other components working still not 100% but better odds.
I just purchased a flooded car from Copart and this video is extremely helpful in approaching the project. Thank you for sharing!
I was just looking at copart lol that’s what brings me here because there is a lot of flooded cars from the storm in the city was just interested in what the damage would be with a car going through that
🤣 "upvote if you're here because you found something cool on copart"
Was it difficult buying a car from them?
Literally thinking about doing the same thing
Look at this before I make a purchase

Very very informative - thanks for sharing this painstaking, and painful, knowledge. Now I know why insurance companies just 'total' out flooded cars.
My car got engine exhaust flooded and the oil pan busted out the bottom horrible weather out here. Still waiting to see if it’s totaled lowkey just want them to total it so I can just get a truck instead.
I'm guessing this didn't go as planned since there is no part 2
Maybe a crimp connector let him down.
part 2 got all washed out...xD
there is now

I found a old Chevy SS that survived hurricane Katrina we had to do something similar to save it because all of the wires were submerged
My truck was completely submerged its a 1994 s10 truck is it done or is it fixable

That's the buyers problem after he flips it
is it okay if its saltwater flooded you rinse it with tap water to get rid of the saltwater? or it just might add a problem?
Would soldering not be the safe bet here and heat shrinking.

what is the cleaning solution that your using....?
Do you I can save my 2013 dodge charger fully loaded, I had water up to the cup holders
Best to avoid any flood damaged car unless you know what you’re doing. Not for a novice.
Floods in Germany brought me here. Hundreds of cars floating down the river.
at that point this car needs a new body harness, the use of hundred of butt connectors are far from a valid repair in my book
That harness will cost 5k or more without installations, That is why insurance companies won't fix flooded cars and they salvage it.
Good work man

I would have to agree, do not use crimp connectors, it wouldnt have taken any extra time to use soldered joints.

Not too easy to tell by pictures from an auction but in person you would normally be able to see a water residue line of where the water came up to

would it not ne better to just replace the whole wiring harness?

Where is part 2??? I hate being left hanging dammit
Who still pops their collar in 2018? That guy! Lol
thats when i quit listening. if you have a popped collar im just guessing you are full of it.
When can you expect part 2?
Its often times cheaper to buy a harness from a wreck than paying an electrician. 😊
The quickest way to wash off salt inside is to drive into non salt water 😏
How can I tell by looking at it that it was only in 6 inches of water?
Sometimes the dirt is clear as day on the seats and on the side of the car. Other times the insurance company will mark a line with the initials WL
The first step I will take when repairing a flooded car is making sure I pop the collar on my polo shirt 👕
Too much issues will be going on with a flooded car. It might be best to rebuild it. Change everything brand new
How much was the car?
No Copart Kool Aide for me, thanks! No flood cars or wrecked but rebuildables for me.
If you got a flooded car can’t you just get a parts car as well? One that’s damaged but has the engine , seats and all electrical components and just grind off any rust on the frame ?
That would work very well but might be more expensive then replacing the electronic parts that are damaged especially if the car is fairly new
