We investigate and share what our wildlife camera picked up at dusk. After a week of rain, our footbridge is flooded and we are forced to divert the water. We replace the glass in the wood stove in Scott's cabin.

Watchers of the channel commented that the time-lapse walk across the island - from West to East - in this episode (48) was too fast. We've since removed this sequence, re-edited it and posted the footage in its entirety (22 mins) as a standalone episode.

if you guys need any help, id love nothing more than to move over and help anyway i can
Hi, as a gardener in Newcastle, I'd use the old water tank for root veg. I use similar on my allotment and it's ideal for carrots
I grew up on a small island outside of Ketchikan Alaska and this is so much like my childhood. The rain, the the the ocean, the rock, it feeds my souls to see this.❤
I to lived in Ketchikan fer awhile I lived up to ward lake in a airstream trailer
Love that cozy stove in your office...Looks perfect... enjoy.. Your videos are always a tonic..Even the never ending rain. I salute your strength of character and minds...delighting in the difficulties of a "simpler" life.
That's just what I needed to see, the cat lying on its back, showing its belly. I love cats... 😍😻🐾🤍🖤
love that stream right next to the house. so calming to listen to.
Found yer site by happy happenstance. Lived on the largest island in the straight between Vancouver Island and the mainland, British Columbia, Canada. Texada Island. No electricity, kerosene lamps, Wood heat stove on one side of the wall, wood cook stove on the other side (shared chimney). Whoever lived in the house before had piped cold running water from a swamp, on the other side of the swamp below the house, to the faucet in the kitchen (house was on the side of a hill above a swamp, with the other swamp raised a little above that one, about 3/4 of a mile away. They ran black 1 1/2 inch pipe, covered with increasingly smaller screen at the intake, to the faucet = gravity-feed.) Didn't get to plant a garden. We were only there from August to May. Locals said winters were mostly rainy. Got snowed in until November - March! That was 48 years ago. Life intervened & never got back to "Paradise". Since I have found you two, will be living vicariously through you. ❤❤
Love the pointing stick. Such a handy this to have when your trying to make a point 🤔😂
Brilliant episode 👏👍
I do adore the videos.
Fast motion made me stop watching because I get sick, sad. But then I am back to enjoy the rest of the story 😊.
I am from Grand Rapids Michigan and we also collect wood for heating our home and love the heat and working with the wood.
Our stove is a Hearthstone, soap stone and cast iron with a glass window. 🌸
This is the way humans are meant to live, busy and stress-free. Live in a small city in South Australia but live for bush camping, don't see people for weeks. ❤ Love it ❤
You should upload an extended video of a fireplace burning and set it to your music. I bet many of us would enjoy it during cold winter nights!
That old watertank would make a wonderful raised bed!
I love the bits and bobs of things you find, the paths and streams, waterfalls, rain and wind and then the roaring fire at the end. Love it!
So many projects and so interesting to watch you two working together. Rain does not deter you two….just get on with it. Thanks for the tour of the island and then the roaring fire to end the video. Always lots to see and learn when I watch your videos. Thank you for taking us along on all your activities.❤️👍🏻
Hi! Scott, get a wee lentil soup pot going in yer wee hut. The bread you guys make would go great with soup.
Love all the different sounds the land and your beautiful deer make. Cheers for doing such a pure ace job o showing us yer life. Loves Helen from Scotland ❤.
I hope your back is better Scott. We are drowning in water too. In the north of the country (Jutland Denmark) they got a month of rain in one day two days ago. What a cozy office you got Scott. Take care ❤
I love the little stove. It’s is lovely. Good job fixing it, Katie. ❤
Great to see what you are doing in the Scottish highlands.
Keep the Belfast sink outside for cleaning fish & vegetables maybe make an outdoor kitchen you have plenty of useful items to use, don’t get rid of anything that can be repurposed particularly for the garden.
I’d recommend investing in some fishing waders great for keeping dry in the rain & muddy areas.
Looking forward to seeing all your projects
Great idea.Kx
I hate to complain but your walk through the oak forest was difficult to watch. It looked beautiful but a little slower would have been easier. I’m intrigued by all those little green lumps and would love to know what they are. Your island is beautiful.
The time-lapse in this video can be slowed down. Go to settings, then playback speed and hit 2.0 Thank you for watching!
New buds on the shrub where the tank and duck resided, spring has sprang.
All that lovely water just flowing away. Possibly more storage tanks below the main ones you worked on a couple of months back. You can never have too much water in summer.
Belfast sinks never come with places to fit taps. They are usually mounted underneath and sealed to a worktop with the taps mounted on the worktop.
The harp tunes definitly adds a certain extra something wth the feel of ya vids!👍😁
Had missed the first 5mins of the live. Enjoyed the wildlife cam.
Many miles away, there’s a shadow on the door, of a cottage on the shore. Of a dark Scottish lake. 🎶…
That old water tank would be good for planting veggie or just wild flowers, just an idea!😊🌸🏵🌹🌺🌻🌼🪻🌷
Unfortunately, we found out that it was made from Asbestos. It was broken into pieces and disposed of sensibly.
A real tonic. Thank you.
I've never heard a deer bark before. I don't think our deer here know how to do that.
Your outdoor shower is kind of ingenious. Chilly, but ingenious. Necessity is the mother of invention. Of course, cobbling it together is also man's "ingenuity" that saves him from doing it properly the first time.
Its lovely that you have you have a little slice of heaven there away from all the madness of a busy life, the water tank would be great for an emergency firewood supply storage in storms or as you mentioned to grow spuds, love the videos v relaxin .🙂👏
Loved the banter as always . Said it once and I’ll say it again ( even in all that rain ☔️) beautiful part of the world . Keeps me sane in this mad world , watching you two .
Sorry I missed you live. I think you should get more water drums then you can catch more water. Scott your little office is looking cosy with the book cases and I love the wood stove.
Good choice cheers from 🇺🇸 US! preserve your way of life! it’s a trend here also.
Thank you for watching! Kx
Hi from sunny Nairn. Other great show always good to see what you are up too. Look forward too the next show.
Put some solar light out; yes I have to say how lucky you found your own island Looks great . Good luck
It is a good thing that all the rain you get doesn't turn to snow because you would need a snowmobile just to get around and the melting in the spring would cause even more drainage problems. Looking forward to seeing Scott's office develop, I know that my "mancave" is my place for projects, work and relaxing. We have several deer that are on the property where we are, our dog loves checking out the tracks.
Katie's right about sweeping the chimney. It's a cozy fire, though.
Hi Scott & Katie from Australia 🇦🇺 it’s your MAN CAVE that we call in Aus.love your work you pair soo humbling x
Never ending treasure hunt on the island. It is great to see you gathering and going the the processes to repurpose finds. Thank you for sharing your journey.
Enjoy watching looking forward to more
Thank you so much for another wonderful episode. Loved the walk back though the woods. Fabulous.
Love the contented cat ❤
You live in the most beautiful place on a wonderful island, love watching your videos and look forward to many more.
What a lovely reality, all my people are Scottish and it calls to me as well! Good luck there and we’ll check in on you guys along the way.
Loved the trail cam footage, especially the Pine Marten (time lapse walk idea, maybe not so much)😉
Hello Katie and Scott, great video today. Oh my gosh that rain sure had the water flowing down the hill side. Good fix on the walk way, and the small stove glass, looking forward to the next video. So until then stay dry and warm.
and warm.
Wish I lived there I am not Scottish or young but paradise to me xx
So pleased to see you again , loved watching the wildlife. Crikey , what rain , don’t think we have had it that bad 🙈. You both work so well together , a perfect team .
And my favourite meal is , Fish & Chips .
Great video . 😘
This looks so much like the coast of British Columbia where I live. What a wonderful life you have.
Hi love your cottage and the island that would be my dream for retirement, please get the chimneys swept regularly there is nothing more frightening than a chimney fire, thanks for sharing and look foward to more
Hello Scott & Katie, Lovely video with your own waterfall… very relaxing watching you get rained on😂. The stove in the cabin is great looks very cosy… all in all great stuff, see ya soon xx❤❤
Enjoyed watching you both working things out together
Another wonderful episode! Thank you.
Old tubs like that are perfect for carrots and parsnips, but take a lot of compost ...huegel culture half way up could be an option, but would still need topping up as the wood rotted.I've tried many Parsnip varieties and always go back to 'Gladiator' ...and Carrot 'Yellowstone' are probably the best ive tasted, you'd get a few kilo from that...and the metal tub that Scott found washed up
@Skooty68- That old tub very likely is constructed with asbestos, which would poison any veg that is planted in it.😮 Best to get rid of it or just leave it alone.
Good day I’m new to your channel. I’m gonna follow you now I love the view from the cabin out to the water. It’s truly beautiful.. I look forward to watching your👏☮️❤️
Welcome aboard! 🤍
Ah, that was delightful! And a lovely fire to end with.
Just found your channel. Would love to live there, you don't have to worry about bears, dangerous animals, or extreme weather conditions other than a little flooding.
Be sure to watch Kris Harbor. You have an ideal situation there with with an elevated running water source that could easily be used for generating hydro-power.
Yay, I suggested the trail cam a few weeks ago 🙌 loved hearing the deer bark 🦌, looking forward to lots more deer!!
Hello Good People ... missed you live but have Just caught up 🎉 ... rain like you are having is heavy going ... but you've marked of some necessities on your lists this week ... I don't know whether I have cracked more for your rug or your cat ??😊?? ... take care of each other .... 🫠
The stove is burning so hot the chimney will be clean, wood is best burned on a bed of it's own ash, maybe remove the grate? it would make the fire area deeper, ideally you need thin fire brick or fire cement in the base. As another follower suggested freeing up the rusted parts being very careful to not break the castings. I think it vital you free up the air slide at the bottom of the door to have control of the fire it will be very different with the door sealed with the new glass. Suggest research into wood stoves, plenty of info on line. You are making a real success of the channel keep up the good work.
I just wanted to say I loved the video it’s amazing what goes on late at night.By jings you two both work hard at least yous moved those big stones so the water could flow much better. Anyway both take care.❤
Very interesting video. Beautiful place❤️
Love trail cams.. it's always exciting to see what you pick up! We've currently being entertained by the noctural goings on on our driveway.. hares, birds, cats (ours and the wild ones) comings and goings. Usually deer and wild pigs (little sh*ts!) in the back paddocks. 😊
Another great video - thanks for sharing.
Your variety is great! I would DIE if I had to go out in that rain nowadays! 😮
Just passing through (random click).
Thanks from an ex-pat Brit in Japan.
A beautiful place to be. Lucky you.
Scott have you thought of getting a drone, it would expand your video's distance while allowing you to remain in one place. I feel sure you would enjoy using one.
Another entertaining video, good job on the wood stove! All your jobs will get done eventually!
When that fire lit up , you put a smile on my face !
Decoy makes nice indoor ornament. Old water tank would be good for a container garden. Very good for that.
The barking deer could be quite unnerving if you didn't know what it was!
Idea: You could get Scott a Bigfoot costume and make a brilliant April Fool's vid! hehe
Hi your stream under your walkway being clogged can be fixed with a 12 inch metal corrugated drainage pipe under the walkway for a water path..
You can use smaller pipe just keep in mind the biggest possible item to wash into the pipe and clog it and make it bigger.
Beautiful life you have there.
Will be thinking of you in the coming few days, weather forecast not good.
Have you considered a hydro system ? there is plenty of water running down the hill side.
Just came across your u tube by chance.i love the background music that u play.i also love watching how u renovate the cottage.fantastic job your doing.what a peaceful life.fabolous
When they were poking at the waterflow with the "poking-stick" and afterwards: Every couples conversation everywhere in the world, while working on a project together. lol! OK, had to Sub.
Good to have you with us! Thanks for the sub. Kx 🤍
Look n smell great wi pine logs in it ,good luck , mick
21:54 to 22:06 This is the life. If there is any chance reincarnation exists, I'd like to come back as a sheep or cat with parents like you... After being on hold to a Government agency for nearly 2 hours, only to then find them to be completely useless, this has helped my blood pressure to come back down to normal!! LOVE your channel. Thank you both so much xx Teresa ❤🇦🇺... Edit: P.S. I did not know that Deer barked!! Fascinating! xx t
Typically wood stove doors are on pins which allow you to simply lift the doors off.
Typically, but these ain't budging! Kx
Plant flowers or veggies in the old tub that was in the brook❤
In the summer, dig up around your bridge and put in a PBC pipe with a large flange at the top and place it down and under your bridge. Then when it clogs up from leaf and dirt you can poke with a long metal pole and push through to the bottom of the pipe the clog and clean it away.
What if you go with the flow and make a small water pool to hold water for when you need extra in the dry season. Just a thought.
So excited to see Spring come to the island ❤ love watching your videos so interesting 🤗🤗
Thank you for being a part of youre wonderful life We had a pine marter last year he killed al of oure chickens 😢 We also have much rain in Holland at the moment I,m counting the days till spring is here again pfffff
What areas come true❤
That waterpot would make a great raised bed. ❤ its raining in germany too
The videos are very peaceful❤
When ever there is a problem outdoors or in- you two are straight on it! I love to see you both just getting on with it. You made a great job of the bridge rocks and now the water flow is better. The little stove is great. Is it helping to keep your books dry? Like others, I thought fibre glass trough would be good for root veg! Roof work next...please be careful!
I was wondering if you have penetraining oil at your local store. We have WD40 here in the US. Excellent for frozen or rusted bolts and nuts. I'd wait to do it until summer. The door should be able to come off so you can lay it flat and spray the bolts. Might take two or three tries if it's particularly nasty 🤔
I used to take my Franklin stove apart once or twice a year. I'd clean it well. Then, I would spray paint it with Rustoleum High Temperature paint. It looked right pretty.
Blessings 🙏on your endeavours and on your homestead!🖖🧘♀️🐈⬛💕📚
Happy Valentine's day. God bless you all.
The wildlife cam is wonderful! But I don't think that''s an otter - it's nose is too pointy. I've heard deer huff, but not bark - pretty interesting! And your latest stove renovation looks great. It makes the office so cozy. Well done!
It was a Pine Marten
Use the tank to grow something with invasive roots like mint.
Unfortunately, the tank is made from asbestos so it needs to be properly disposed of.
The piece of rubbish box is perfect for raised bed garden.
You could take that box, turn it on its side, put it on some rocks and tilt it to drain and put wood in it to keep the wood dry and out of rain.
Could that tank be used as a raised garden bed perhaps? Always enjoy your videos and look forward to each and everyone of them, big fan here in NZ!
As always enjoyed the video.
Glad you enjoyed it.
It's so nice to get a fire going. Progress in little steps.
that tank would be great for growing root veg in your garden! Carrots, beets, parsnip! no end of ideas there!
Awesome work!
I find that steam stripping with high heat is the best way to remove paint without damaging the stone
Remember glass expands and contracts that’s why it cracks 🤔 it slides on the seal
