Back when we showed respect to the American flag and people did not kneel only to saluted unlike today no American flag, and no real drum and bugle c o r p s. DCI has turned the activity into a marching band competition and that's what they should call it marching band International. At one time this was a great youth activity, for kids that want necessarily interested in playing ball, they had a different Outlet. That no longer exists today today is March 26th 2024. Thank you for posting this clip brings back great memories❤❤🎉🎉
A dynamic corps. Innovative , bold, and entertaining at all times. When the Kilties took the field of competition in the late 60's and early 70's you had a handful of competition. I competed against in this Era. Formidable and when the "gun" sounded, the Kilties were the Greatest closers in drum corps history. Their standards may never be duplicated. Golden age of drum corps.
In 1987, I marched with Southern Nights senior drum & bugle corps out of Virginia Beach VA ... one of my corps mates that year, Ron Raahauge, had marched earlier in his drum corps career with the Kilties ... if Ron, or any one who knows/knew him, knows which years he marched with Racine, I would appreciate the information.
Can someone here say who taught percussion this year? I’ve hit a dead end researching who taught percussion for the Kilts in the 1970s. Some years it was Tom Sorensen, but I know he taught Pioneer (“The Thing”) this year.
This show is one of the reasons why I came back and played in 75 and became part of the management with the Resurgence of the kilties in the 80s and sadly I was also a part of the alumni Corps but kilties are kilties loved it from the word go
Back when snare drums sounded like snare drums versus cardboard boxes. And played many real rudiments, rather than a bunch of Rim shots and juggling, with very very few rudiments in the drum lines of today. Also also patriotic music and respect and salute to the American flag. Today most of the organizations are Marching bands, they are woke, they wear costumes and makeup Electronics PA systems singing dancing and prancing . We no longer have real drum and bugle c o r p s. In my opinion, DCI has turned the activity into a marching band competition, superimposed on a three-ring circus parrot with all sorts of props and costumes rather than uniforms. It costs a arm and a leg to be a member. Plus they have price themselves out of business that's why there are very few, drum and bugle cops, today. Former member of the Long Island sunrises😮😢😅❤❤
I think this is the DCI championship. Hard to imagine they only placed fifth, would have thought they would have been in the top three at the very least.
Mid-1970s Kilties never failed to impress. The first two and a half minutes of this show is absolute magic.

That was my last show as a Kilt. Thank you.
Tom, I agree with you 100%. That year was when they were real drum and bugle Corp, unlike marching bands of today. Today is May 28th 2022.
