Treatment of Overdose will depend on the type of overdosed medication taken and the time elapse between the intake and presentation...The best thing to do is take that person to a near by Health center immediately! Mean while if the drug is ingested in less than one hour, oral intake of activated charcoal is recommended medically. It is also common to see patients take milk or water, which is alright but please be careful not to give those for patients unable to swallow (vomiting or convulsing or not fully conscious) because there is a risk of aspiration if the person has difficulty to swallow at that moment

If you take an overdose of pain killer, you may not see any symptoms right away but before going to the doctor there is not much you can do. But there is a medication called 'naloxone' which reverses the effects of opioids/pain killer drugs.
But the best thing for you to do is calm down, drink water and go to the hospital because it can be worse if you are worrying too much. Or maybe you can buy the naloxone but it is not recommended to overdose it.
You're right! Just in addition to that. Naloxone is an opioid antagonist which only reverses the effect of an Opioid but not any pain killer (for example it dose not have effect on overdose of Ibuprofen which is a non opioid pain killer/analgesic). Therefore, it can only be used in overdose of opioid analgesics (such as Tramadol, Codeine etc), most importantly it should be used only when prescribed by a medical practitioner. However, in case of any drug overdose, patients should quickly be taken to the nearest healthcare center for most drugs have their specific antidotes. Meanwhile, some emergency measures can be done in the hospital. Another thing to note is the fact that every drug have their safe dose range and toxic dose range. You might take a drug within it's safe dose range but because it was more than what was prescribed you begin to panic, it will be more helpful to seek medical attention when overdose of a drug is practiced. Just to add....
For any form of overdose especially Over the counter (OTC) drugs, please reach out to your healthcare provider immediately. HCP not medicine vendors (patent medicine vendors/sellers i.e the conventional chemist shops). Kindly go to a hospital or PHC or a pharmacy shop that has a consulting pharmacist there and not the sales persons.
@@PharmacistAhmed.A.L I was prescribed naloxone by a medical doctor because I am a a few opioid medications. The doctor’s instructions are that am am to tell my family members if they find me unresponsive and not breathing to spray the naloxone in my nose to revive me. That medication reverts tte effect of opioids. That medication can only be bought with a prescription in the united stated. I do not know if you can get it without a prescription in other countries. I personally do not know what to do in case of overdose but I wanted to add some clarity about naloxone.

It's true that opioids have among other side effects and respiratory and cardiovascular depression so would be counselled to watch out for those. However, in the case of opioid overdose some non pharmacological approach can be used such as gastric lavage and dialysis in the case of oral or parenteral respectively as the case may be. None of those can be done home. So, the attention of a Pharmacist or Physician must be seek.

Overdose of medicines often have their antidotes. Which reverse the action of the overdosed medicines. For example opioids overdose can be reversed by naloxone, diazepam by flumazenil etc. So the first its advisable to consult a doctor or a pharmacist nearby for the antidote followed by other natural therapies,before the drug has reached its maximum potency.

If there is a near by pharmacy, the person can go in for an emetics which are drugs that help you to vomit but it doesn’t have to take long before you get the emetics….. Drugs take a little time to be metabolized in the body when taken orally so you can get the emetics to vomit out some of the drugs to reduce anxiety then later go to the hospital to see a doctor🙏🏻

The best is to take activated charcoal tablets or if it's powder, take a tablespoon in a cup of warm water. You can't go wrong with activate charcoal. Its good for food poisoning,any poison including snake bites,or fermented foods etc
The first thing to do is drink enough palm oil before going to the hospital, because when you reach the hospital they have a process that takes time and if you're not lucky u will lose your life . because they don't welcome u and start giving treatment, N.B palm oil frid .I am a CNA saying out of experience thanks God bless

Hi Mark if the person takes an overdose medicine it is better to get her quickly to the hospital so the antidote depends on the type of overdose. But you avoid to give anything or help the person vomiting.

The other method that we have used by tradition Africa Medicine they use Saline Salt.
