If he didnt have a close match with Zou, your talking point would be: "well you know, we havent seen him in a close match so we don't know".
I have full confidence in Spencer Lee. He's getting better and is an incredical competitor.
Very incredical!
I noticed this about Spencer Lee a while ago, but because his entire offense revolves around the tie ups, he's able to completely shutdown his opponents offense. Hes so good from that position that most of his opponents are unable to wrestle him there or clear the ties. The problem is that when he's not in those ties ups, he's often flat footed and just comes straight forward, with no circling or level changes, while reaching hands straight out for collar ties or tricep control.
This is actually why I think Sebastian Rivera had so much success against him. Hes was very good at both avoiding and getting out of the tie ups.
Spencer's defense is a giant hole of his. If a guy is able to solve Spencer's defense, then Spencer is in huge trouble.
That is if they can even get to their offense but great point . We saw it exactly with ramos
I think Spencer had great defense, but he just doesn’t really utilize it because of his confidence in his offense.
@@diegosanchez6305 Exactly. It all depends on whether they can weather the storm that is Spencer's offense.
He needs to wrestle free. I think his lack in "defense" is more confidence. But what the heck do I know?
Is Spencer being safe with leg attack defense to preserve his knees and then he will turn it up when its really important? I dont think this is a crazy theory.
It does seem like he is selective about which attacks he defends and which ones he doesn't. When it really matters, it never seems like he gives up those easy takedowns and always does just enough to win.
Agreed. I don't think shot defence is an issue TBH. What worries me with Spencer is the "flash" pin that seems to be the only way he loses.
You guy’s at Flo have always been anti Spencer. Zou is a tough out and Spencer did what he had to do to move on in the bracket and all the sudden you guy’s are saying… “these 5 guys can beat him”. I'm not saying that Spencer can’t catch a loss at the Olympics, but I never heard anything from you guys saying that Brooks was suspect when he had a close win over Glazier this year. In fact you guys were still saying he was the second best guy in the world even though he’s never wrestled at senior worlds. Funny how that work, huh?
I think they’re putting a lot of stock in his win over Taylor, but that’s a single data point so they may be weighting it too heavily
@@StarcraftDrthey and others were saying that Brooks was the 2nd best guy behind DT even before the trials too tho
Hes the odds on favorite in my book.
I do not believe in Bigfoot, Yetis, and the locness monster. I also did not believe in par terre until Spencer Lee - “It does exist.”
I know brackets are not out (and won’t be until the event) but is there a list of who will be in each weight class yet from each country?
Lee was holding his lead to win the match, numerous world class wrestlers including Olympic and world champions do this. I just don’t think he necessarily did it very well. But he did it and won the match.
3 minutes in I saw his run completely different? Thought he looked dominant. did what a guy who had to go through a gauntlet to even have the chance to try and qualify for America and, wrestle in this tournament. Hasn’t wrestled international comp in years and years. In that match he wasn’t able to get to his ties but made the adjustment and won. I was super impressed and think a lot of the guys going to Paris are either scared or on extremely high alert with the fact Spencer will be there.
Winning 10-9 in a very close match isn’t dominance.
My question is why did it take 3 seconds to walk around the subject and then reluctantly say yes...lol...my answer is yes also
Yes, but he’s got to double down because we all thought Kyle was going to win in 2021 and in an instant it was all over.
I think Spencer, Kyle and Brooks win Gold. I want Zain to win it the most, but between the weight cut and the competition it’s going to be extremely tough. I hope he can do it.
I think he has a great shot, his tech’s r insane at this level of competition
If he wrestles free, there is no doubt. Don't let up big dog!
Lee is a beast on top, the whole world took notice, those other guys' coaches in his weight class are studying some serious film. Fortunately there isn't much film on lee
Lets go Spencer bring home a 🥇🥇
He should be the number 1 seed in his weight class
zaur uguev of russia is most likely going to be the 1 seed hes the reigning olympic champ
@@rayfreestyl3 Uguev lost to Micic at worlds, so he sholdn't be 1.
Spencer will win gold!
Excellent analysis
Is RBY at that weight class ?
Yes, for Mexico
who’s RBY?
Zou had far greater power. When someone really takes the aggressive role with him from moment one, Spencer may be in trouble. Spencer seems to have developed some contemplative processing, over his youth wrestling style, where he dominated with power and aggression. Age, time, exposure to world level competition, injuries add up to hesitance. As compared to K. Dake, I think we really see a difference in international experience and less injury hesitation. Focus on strength, dominance, crushing the competition no matter the country of origin!
Did spencer win the last chance qualifier or take 2 nd
They didn't wrestle the final, no need to they both qualified as well as third place who did have to wrestle and win in the repechage
Spencer had a loss of focus in that 10-9 match, and that cannot happen in The Games. But, ya...he could win it. Arm trap, par terre he's the king.
He was in stall mode, he could afford to give up those takedowns. Now, getting down early was not great. All in all, he'll be great
Lose to a large portion of the field? He hasn't lost a freestyle match since he was 14. Moreover, Zou was the #1 seed. He was surprised and ended up down 6-1 and then went 9-0 until 20 seconds left and he got complacent
Spencer has never been to the Olympics or faced the type of athletes he will face at these games. Spencer can win gold, but his opponents will know how to exploit even the tiniest weakness, and Spencer has a bad habit of leaving himself exposed in certain critical positions.
Rhetorical Question… YES
This analysis is ... lacking analysis. You're prescribing generalized flaws in ONE match as if that's a fundamental weakness. What you're not doing is assuming that Spencer and coaches realize this. Spencer was beaten by Tomasello the first time in college. It was close, he lost, but it was never close again. Lee was dominant going forward. There's a precedence for learning/augmenting
Duh!!!
What happened to Ramos?
He’s been Retired for like 5 years
100% YES!
