Learning these scales helped shape how I play today. I will NEVER pretend to be some great sweep picker, I just think it is important to learn! Growing up listening to metal in the mid 00’s onward, I absolutely heard this scale, in some form, across many different subgenres. I think this is a great STARTING place. A scale like this played super fast sure can sound awesome, but after a bit it feels like there’s no inspiration. So, I recommend learning this, but as far as putting it in songs, put your own spin on it!
✱You should have a basic understanding of HOW to sweep pick when watching this video.
✱This arpeggio can be played in any key - just shift up/down the fretboard and begin with your root note where appropriate.
✱This video is using a guitar with jumbo frets - if the stretch is too hard for you, consider using a guitar with standard sized frets, if available.
✱Sweep picking can help any guitarist become very coordinated with both of their hands working together.

May be easier to use your middle instead of ring finger on the 10th fret(second note of arppegio, last example)...? Probably cause I always liked mapping out small chord shapes when I would practice these. Thanks for these examples

Yes, I think this definitely comes down to preference. This was the way a guy I knew played it, and I just really admired his playing. But I have certainly seen people play really fast passages and not even using their pinky, so they definitely use the middle finger more than how I showed. Thank YOU for watching and commenting!

The diagram needs to be bigger….because it’s not quite covering up your picking demonstration fully….*smirks

Thanks for the comment! I was just using it as a moment to have the tab part big enough if anyone needed a close up. But you’re right and I’ll keep that into account for the next vid!
