  • A Portland man KATU spoke with more than a year ago is now threatening to sue over homeless camps near his property. Chris Pearcey is trying to sell his house but says he's trapped by the tents nearby.
Pearcey had July 7 circled on his calendar. It's when Portland's new daytime camping ban took effect.
"It breaks my heart that the city keeps giving these empty promises," said Pearcey. "On the 7th, there was supposed to be new action."
The same day he put his North Portland home on the market. But Pearcey says nothing in the neighborhood has changed.

@@cassandra9699so your solution is to punish those who buy homes, for the price they pay for said homes? What an asinine, irrelevant, useless proposition. Property owners don’t set market value for the property they purchase. Their option is to not buy in a given area if there is an issue with inflated market pricing. Penalizing those who purchase homes does absolutely nothing to address the big picture issue. If we applied this kind of punitive logic to all consumer goods, no one would buy anything. Overcharging buyers for property would have the opposite effect you seem to think it would, to an almost comedic degree. You don’t solve inflated market pricing and lack of inventory issues by punishing end users. What next, the Robin Hood approach?🤦🏾‍♀️

Yes but - you’re also being intellectually lazy by omitting the entire topic around the federal reserves market manipulation via asset price inflation.
Mortgage rates should have never been 2-3%. All that results in is another bubble where wages cannot support asset prices.
I’m continually shocked and amazed at how Portland liberals absolutely REFUSE to discuss the issue around central bank market manipulation.
Now Larry BETA Fink from Blackrock will happily swoop in and buy homes on the cheap and rent them back out.
Topics Portlanders refuse to talk about:
      Fatherlessness
      Federal reserve
Private property rights vs collectivist ideologies ( you don’t get all the benefits of capitalism while advocating marxist ideology - pick one and stick with it!)

'you’re also being intellectually lazy by omitting the entire topic around the federal reserves market manipulation via asset price inflation.'
No, not really being lazy. The reason why the world is in such sh*t is because this is what capitalism does by nature - corrupt anyone and anything (including the government and the federal reserve WHICH IS CAPITALIST by the way and put in BY CAPITALISTS BANKERS way back with Jekyll Island.
Capitalism needs a housing crisis to make money and guarantee control. And it is true that zoning laws and incompetent leadership contribute to insufficient housing stocks, all those private equity firms and landlords LOVE jacking up rent on tenants because it makes them more money.
Under capitalist modus operandi, if there is a shortage of any commodity, than they can charge more for it because a textbook in college on economic theory told them that is 'the law' - so capitalists have no incentive to create enough housing so they keep stocks artificially low to boost profits - and thus squeezing the middle class, including renters.
Capitalism is in is cancerous cannibalizing phase.
      Thank you for your response.

Every city in the United States that allows homeless encampments should be sued by the citizens. There are limitless resources for the homeless. The problem is not a huge group of unfortunate people. The problem is groups of people 100% physically able to do a lot of types of work but are just too lazy to contribute to society and instead rather live life as adult babies expecting normal working people to feed them and give them money for their drug habits. It's truly sad and disgusting. It's time the working people fought back and demand these homeless people do something to contribute to society.

What’s wrong with owning a home? It’s the homeowners who pay taxes and live peaceful lives. Why hinder people who just want to live peaceably? The homeless do not live peaceably. They destroy everything they come near.

Agreed. Court cases like this take years and this man has a family emergency, something about "...taking care of my child...", so the emergency can wait for a year or two while this case works it's way through the court system. Alternately he can lower the price by $200k - $400k, which is less than the cost of hiring a slightly above average law firm for a fast-track court case.

This is why disparity matters! I left Vancouver/Victoria after 30 yrs. My rent was going up 36% per year, I took on 1,2,3,4 FT jobs-I can't work anymore than that-I'm in my 50s-not looking to amp up but wind down my life. I can't compete with a rich homeowner making $1,000+ a day on their home appreciation and their six figure professional salary. I moved to Quebec. I'm born-to-lose autistic.
