I had tried this "egg in a bag" method overnight on my Zelos Helmsman 2 bronze diver. It works exactly as I had hope it would turn out. The patina was just enough to change the shinny bronze into a dull coating of aged bronze. Very nice... Thanks for introducing this quick and easy means of aging a bronze-cased watch....
You really brought out the bronze on the Zelos! Love it! I'm thinking the egg/sulphur/quick aging will also sort of jump start your patina process. Like if you simply wore it more often, it will slightly 'age' more and more, every day (no need for the liver oil).
Nicely done T3. Looks terrific! I did a forced patina with my Squale 50 Atmos Bronze. I used a a salt/vinegar vapor. Too bad I can’t send you a picture but you can check it out on my shelf if you’re on Snupps, where I posted a pretty comprehensive series of close up photos. It’s pretty cool. It came out very, very blue green.
I have used Liver of Sulfur previously on the bronze bezel insert of a Stowa Pro Diver. LoS works very quickly and mostly turns bronze black. The more copper in the alloy, the better the reaction. LoS is terrific to punch up the contrast on a bezel, by darkening the recesses.
So, Christopher Ward just had their Summer Sale. I say "just" because things sold out so fast, there's probably not much left. Anyhoo, I got a "just like new" C60 Trident Pro Bronze, and I'm super happy to get it in. so, I searched through your videos to see this video again, it's really going to come in handy once I get my new watch in. Thanks for the great video!
Have to say, I was not a fan of this watch before, but it is more appealing with some patina. As another viewer mentioned, it kind of has a steampunk vibe to it now.
Better is: 1) hard [over] boiled egg(s) - (over boiled eggs has that greenish ring between yolk and egg white. It took 10-15 minutes to get it.); 2) take out yolk(s); 3) put your watch into yolk(s) or just cover it by yolk(s) paste and put it all into ziplock for long period of time. You are welcome!
Dunk it in chemical kitchen sink cleaner for 10minutes and it comes out nearly black. Works on brass watches as well. Or just leave it over night in a jar filled with seawater. Did that to my tc9 bronze diver in my Netherlands vacation last year.
Not ruined, you added creative finishing. This is such a great way to individualise your watch in a way that sympathetic to the material used. Do you have any idea how long the patina lasts, assuming you don’t actively remove it?
Great video Jory, as a confirmed SKX fan the watch styling of the Zelos does not float my boat, that said the watch now has more character :-) Can I ask one question, does this (or any other forced patina) process have any effect on the bezel lume?
Great video. First time I've seen this. Personally I prefer the clean look and have it age naturally. Still, it does look pretty cool as it is now. I don't think it's a good idea to do more, it might be a bit too much and you do need to factor in natural aging over the years.
damn beautiful, i really wants to try the method- but i know someone will scold me for "ruining" my watch. But, i'll definitely goin to try this someday (with more cheaper bronze watch)
I've seen this technique done in another video, but the guy did not crush the hard boiled egg. The results did reveal some patina developing, but it wasn't as much as yours showed within the same it more time frame.. I think he did it for more than a day or even days. Additionally, the watch was a Steinhart Ocean One Bronze which has a different bronze alloy that I believe is closer to that of the Tudor Black Bay Bronze and looks more gold or brass than copper or rose gold. I believe that other type of bronze alloy has more tin or aluminum in it. As such, that other type of bronze allow generally tends to be a little more resistant to developing patina and the tone of patina is also different. I much prefer the CuSn8 Bronze allow used in Zelos and Christopher Ward bronze watches.
An improvement in my opinion, I'm perhaps a bit to OCD for that treatment tending to like a factory new shine but do see the appeal. Me thinks the next time you may want to have a method of having the plastic bag stand off the surface of the watch as it probably affects how the patina is rendered on anything it's touching. I'm no scientist but it seems logical and possibly born-out by the way the bezel surface of your watch turned out. Great and interesting vid. Cheers.
Looks great, Jory! I've got a Zelos Swordfish Bronze coming and was thinking I'd try the liver of sulphur first as that seems to yield a darker, blacker patina from what I've seen on RUclips. But that turned out really nice! Not overly green which is what I'd prefer as I'm going for the cobalt dial. I'll do both the watch and the buckle simultaneously to complete the look.
What a cool video! I kind of want to do this too, however I haven't any bronze wristwatches. Do you think this could work on a silver watch? If not, could you recommend some bronze watches?
Looks great with the patina! Really fits the watch well. :) I think it could even handle a bit more patina than what you gave it. Anyway, it gave the watch way more character. I love it! I will definitely remember this little trick if i ever come into a watch like this. Thanks. :)
Should have patinaed the buckle as well. Use Cape cod cloths to clean in and try for the green monster look using salt water. That will really give it a pulled from the depth look.
I'd have expected diver's watches to be made from marine grade material so that they don't corrode....weak hydrochloric acid would work better, its a stronger oxidising agent & would create a better vert-de-gris finish.(google it for details & method) I've done similar with vaping devices (professional vaper for three & a half years) with spectacular results. Looking forward to the next episode, cheers T3 👍👍
i think you can easily undo it with a vinegar bath. it cleans all the patina off. that's what i think i read or seen on some other video about bronze watches.
Wow! That was a cool "experiment"! Could anyone chime in if this forced-patina process mess up the water resistant seals and gaskets of the watch? Thanks
A roof specifically called for the application of "architectural fluid" to a copper roof I once installed. I questioned the project manager on this and got the reply " ask your crew to piss on the roof, whenever possible".
Looks cool. Too bad you couldn't get that buckle in the bag too. I'd you can remove it from the strap you should definitely force patina it. Now, if only the dial could be patina'd to match....
Peal the eggs and place into the bag, add pickle relish and mayo to taste. Then gently place the watch into the bag and seal. When happy with the results or ready for lunch unseal the bag and remove the watch. Reseal and mash the bag to make your egg salad.
Hmmm. You can use my old grandma method instead. Put the watch in the plastic bag, light a few matches, put them out and throw them in the bag with the watch. It worked in her bathrooms!! ROFL
Nice What would liver of surfer make it look like I wonder? What would urine do to its looks? Who would wear that watch? Anyone? Would make for some interesting conversation among discerning watch lovers

The only thing you need to do is wearing the watch in the ocean , that simple .
If there is no improvement.....BREAK OUT THE PISS
😂😂😂😂
Hahaha
I like the effect. I also like the vintage Time Teller videos where you don't rant and complain so much 😀
I love that, looks great with the patina. You should have done the time lapse would have loved to see the cats trying to eat your eggy watch.

That watch is super sweet looking. It looks even better afterwards.
Definitely adds character. Does getting it wet change the patina?
Nope! Rinsed it, and the Patina stayed the same!
Dean Speerbrecher I
I've heard vinegar cleans off all the patina, it makes it like new.
Looks way better, love it
The whole bronze watch thing isn't my thing, so in my mind you can't ruin it. But! I enjoyed the experiment, and thank you for not using pee.
Great new look, but I think a nice-n-thick distressed brown leather strap would go well with the new aged look.
Looks better. Nice! I ordered the boldr odyssey in Bronze. I'll probably try this

This will work for bronze plate as well? I want to patina mine as a prop. Do i still have to put it in a ziplock bag?
@@urviarora12 This will work for copper and any copper alloy (bronze, brass). Putting it into bag increase and speed up the process...
I got great patina to my bronze watch by using it in the sea easy yes?
I have the Abyss 2 as well, love it. Can't wait for the patina
Great watch...the patina came out beautiful...you should buy another Bronze watch let it patina naturally and contrast and compare...
Wow that's a really fascinating change! I like it a lot. But it DOES make the dial look oddly pristine in comparison.
I like the salt and ammonia method. Makes more blue and green..
Cool. I will try this asap with mine 😊
I think it looks great zelos has some nice watches that look great

I would be very satisfied with that patina, looks great
missed opportunity to pee on it tho
SKRR
Skrr skrr

Great video done my. £100 steeldive watch it looks great

It looks steampunk now . I really like what happened thumbs up 👍.
You can make a sandwich with the eggs, thus killing two birds with one stone.
😂 sound good!
Two eggs?
Can’t you just use sulfuric acid. I think that might be faster and more dangerous
Looks awesome , are you getting patina on your skin from the case ? is it rubbing on to your wrist ? Very cool mod .
looks fantastic
You'll get a much better effect if you just sweat on it. I wear mine when I do yard work and the sweat will turn it dark with green patches.
An improvement in my opinion, I'm perhaps a bit to OCD for that treatment tending to like a factory new shine but do see the appeal. I like it. I'd like it even more if it were a Panerai Bronzo, but I like it.
Very cool! Definitely made it look badass!
This is the weirdest watch video I've ever watched.
What a cool video! I kind of want to do this too, however I haven't any bronze wristwatches. Do you think this could work on a silver watch? If not, could you recommend some bronze watches?
I love the looks of the watch
Cool watch what about atomic watches which is your favorite
Cool experiment. I may try this on my Zelos Hammerhead.
Do it!
Wicked cool! Looks eggscellent!
I think cleaning the case with alcohol first would definitely help to get a more even patina.
That looks AWESOME!
Has anyone ever told you that you look like Popeye's evil nemesis Brutkis?
Bluto.
Bluto. Jesus Christ, dude.
Looks awesome. I have a Ergon Maelstrom that I am going treat!
That's cool! If you ever want to clean it back up all you have to do is polish it with Brasso.
Waktosha 73 or put it in some sprite.
Looks great with the patina! Really fits the watch well. :) I think it could even handle a bit more patina than what you gave it. Anyway, it gave the watch way more character. I love it!
I will definitely remember this little trick if i ever come into a watch like this. Thanks. :)
Thanks bro! Try it!
Nice results
Imo id have done it a bit less but it still looks verry cool!
Cool. But seems you need to move the watch around to get a more even patina on the case.
I see you are an eggland's best man. Good on ya.
😂😂😂🤫
great video, looks cool i think it's a winner!!!
What materials can add more red? Do you know? Ammonia adds green!
Should have patinaed the buckle as well. Use Cape cod cloths to clean in and try for the green monster look using salt water. That will really give it a pulled from the depth look.
I purposefully didn’t do the buckle right away- I wanted to give you guys some contrast.
Whew. That is one beefy watch. Once again, great video. (Dos Huevos!) Now I'm hungry.

There are professional vapers? I've been working to hard.
I’ve found that the best way to patina my bronze and brass watches is just to wear them! Or use in the sea that’s it! Natural is best.
Maybe taking a swim in the ocean while wearing it would have been more appropriate, easier.....and a lot less messy. :)
Valen Greymoon sea water isn’t instant
Can you undo this or is it stuck forever like that? I want to try it...
i think you can easily undo it with a vinegar bath. it cleans all the patina off. that's what i think i read or seen on some other video about bronze watches.
Wondering how big a zip lock bag and how many eggs I'd need to patina my bronze plate for an upcoming shoot 😅
Cool. I would wear it and my wrist is way smaller than yours. Reminds me of a deep sea helmet.
Absolutely fantastic! just love it:) shame they're sold out...
For real.
Nice look, how about salt water?
Personally, im not a fan of brass. I definitely prefer stainless. As a nerd though, i definitely dig the science going on there
It’s bronze, not brass
OK This watch is a real beast. what to wear if the world ends
will this work with brass?
Looks cool. Too bad you couldn't get that buckle in the bag too. I'd you can remove it from the strap you should definitely force patina it. Now, if only the dial could be patina'd to match....

First time I heard of Abyss...liked it...wanted to buy one...everything sold out. Smh
Dude..... it's beautiful. *_* ...
😎🤤👌
Hmmm. You can use my old grandma method instead. Put the watch in the plastic bag, light a few matches, put them out and throw them in the bag with the watch. It worked in her bathrooms!! ROFL
"Very gently were are going to..." Slaps the sh...ulfur out of those eggs.
Very cool! The other way to finish the patina is, just wear is for the next twenty years! Or...Leave it out for pigeons to christen!😱
That's dope!
Love it
Fun video
Very Cool
Opinions on Orient watches?
Anton Brave they freaking rock!
Does it have to be a chicken egg?
More videos about your cats please?
Or you could just wear it in the ocean one time and you will have a natural patina. Which also looks much better.
Science! Fun!
Does bronze scratch as easily as stainless?
Yes, but it doesn't matter. Character.
I tried this with an egg...now my watch is covered in yolk. You didn’t say they needed to be hard boiled! 🥺😳😂
Skeptical _Liberterian , 3:09...
Nice
What would liver of surfer make it look like I wonder?
What would urine do to its looks?
Who would wear that watch? Anyone?
Would make for some interesting conversation among discerning watch lovers
I did my Pontvs for 24 hours like 4 or 5 times.
I thought this was really cool man
You can clean it to new looking
1:15 - so, start to wear it and use it!
I hate eggs, I would go the urine route. I think it looks cool before and more after!!
