In ALL the supposed 'professional' videos I watched before finding your video, NOT one of those mentioned the beveled edge. One video installed it backwards. I looked at the manual that shows bevel out. Thank you for teaching us the RIGHT way to install this knob!!
Thank you. The "pro" who installed my new door and doorknob obviously didn't make sure to get the screws in the holes because my doorknob came off in my hands. I am not a handy person, but your video helped me get the job done. Thank you!
Lea/Leah THANK you for your video. Your voice is so kind and relaxing. I am a new homeowner and have to change my locks today. I am SO happy I came across YOU. I appreciate your tone and DETAIL. Those little things you mentioned are a BIG deal to me. I have subscribed because I feel Might be pulling your channel up often. I have to change the overhead fan in the bathroom soon. Gotta get past the door knob first. 😂. After watching this I feel less stressed about it. Thank you ♥️
Thankyou so much, my husband passed away 3 years ago and I have attempted with success a bunch of DIY but this one was a first, and thanks to you I have a nice new doorknob intact, and it works!
Thanks for refreshing my memory. I knew if I looked it up on your channel I would remember the steps to replacing my door knob and quit stressing over it. Yes I can do this!!!
searched for how to install Home Depot Defiant Doorknob, saw Leah of See Jane Drill, clicked!! Always a pleasure to watch your videos Leah, thank you so much!!
Thank you Leah! Was able to do this and put in a deadbolt today. One trick I can share that helped me during that last tricky part of aligning the screws of the interior knob to the exterior knob was to secure the exterior knob in the right position with painter's tape. Like having an extra pair of hands to hold it still. Made all the difference!
This was incredibly informative. So much better than trying to decipher the instructions that came with the door handle. Especially the part about the beveled edge. You're awesome!
You are an AWESOME lady! Thank you for this WONDERFUL tutorial! My wife is an Electrician along with myself and I'm ALWAYS happy to see more women doing construction and/or home remodeling breaking out of old stereotypes and showing us guys just how to git er done! Thank you Ma'am! Larry the Electrician Maryland
I was putting a door knob back on that had come apart when the screws worked loose. I had been using it with one screw for months because I never could get that second screw lined up. Needless to say, the knob kept falling off. I watched your video, took a deep breath, and miracle of miracles I got both screws in and tightened! It works again! Thank you for simple instructions that gave me the courage to try one last time.
I'm a guy and am not real mechanically inclined so I really appreciate you stating which side the lock goes on becuz my lock was opposite yours so I had to see if I flipped it that it would still work opposite the beveled part...it did . You laughed as you pointed it out but understand, the little details you point out help all of your listeners. Thanks again
To the points, solved my problem. My late hubby would be so proud of me. Thanks to you and all the you RUclipsrs sharing your talents and ideas. Again Thank you. ..My door is now operational.
Short, sweet, to the point, and includes the “watch out for this & that” parts. T H O S E are the little aggravating parts of installation that makes people chuck tools/parts against the wall damaging sheetrock which adds more time & money to the job- LOL
My doorknob just came off in my hand! It's about 10 below zero right now - so fun! It's duct taped for now and my deadbolt is on but first thing in the morning I'll head to the hardware store and with the help of this video I'm sure I'll be all set! Thanks so much!
Thank you very much. I tried and tried to install a door handle this evening and I didn’t realize that it would slide over for the 2 3/4 position to center the holes. You’re a lifesaver
I love you Jane! The 1st 4 vids I watched never addressed how to do the back set adjustment to get the square hole in center. That was my problem and I've been fussing with it for 20 minutes. I appreciate you!
Your instructional vids are wonderful! When I retired I bought an older mobile home lakeside - I'm loving it, but there is so much repair work to do to the home. Your clearly spoken DIY vids have solved more than a few of my troubles - and with your help I don't need to call a handyman - I GOT THIS! Thanks Much!
Thank you so very much for this video as your directions were easy to follow. My wife and I are retired and are on a very tight budget and you and your videos have saved us a lot of money. We truly appreciate what you do. take care, Steve and Jayne
Hi Leah: I installed two new key locks per your video instructions. I have two questions. Should the key be inserted upside down to open the door? On the inside of the door lock should the door lock button be horizontal in the locked position or straight up and down in the locked position? Thanks in advance, Steve and Jayne
If you were here, I’d hug you! The instructions that came with my Kwikset door set only confused me. After 45 minutes of cursing like a sailor, I threw the instructions away and then thought I’d check your channel for some information. Sure enough, your tip on adjusting the center did the trick. In 7 minutes of watching your video.....door knobs were on and working! I love your channel. You have given me confidence to try to fix or do things myself. THANK YOU!!!!!
Thanks a lot! I was nervous to take apart a doorknob in case I couldn't put it back together, but with your clear instructions, I felt confident enough to do it.
This really helped thanks! I was putting a new knob on for my mom. I know generally how it goes but the dumb thing didn't come with instructions. I found you and you let me know what i needed. That the slanted part faces out. That's the part i was unsure about. With your help i was able to install it with confidence! Thanks!
Thanks so much. My key broke in my lock today. I had never replaced a lock before. I watched your video and it made the process easy. Thanks again for sharing.
Hey Leah. I heard your voice begin these instructions and recognized it instantly (this is Cassandra). It's so cool to know you are making these videos. I just installed my first door knob following you step by step and will definitely find your videos when we do more DIY stuff. Thank you very much. Take care.
I read the included instructions and was like, "What???". Found this video and it made it easy peasy. I installed it for my sister and she said I'm like her new Property Brother lol! Thanks!
Thanks heaps. I have to put in a new door lock to keep my landlord out. After watching this I have the can do groove. Across in Australia :) Great video, short & so easily explained. Great Job!
You instructed clearly and kindly, and empowered me : ) I had a feeling I knew how to do it, but your video confirmed it. I do suggest you put a flashlight on your next video as this one is very dark. Otherwise good video!
Thanks! My instructions were wrong and referred to the bolts as wood screws and the need for pilot wholes. It threw me totally off and I thought I need to screw the inside knob into wood. Once I watched your video it was clear what needed to be done. I just got to remember to come looking for your video(s) sooner ;)
Thank you! I watch your videos alot these days. My husband joined the navy last year and I thought I'd be fine. I change my own oil in my car, I've done minor handy work as needed, but there's so many little things he did that I never learned how to do😱 Your videos have been a huge help! You rock! Keep drilling Jane!
thank you I live with my mother and my little brother so I'm pretty much the handy man. thanks to this video I now know how to replace a doorknob, I tried it but it didn't work on my bathroom door so I tried another door knob on my bedroom door and it worked, turned out that the doorknob was cheap and off brand so make sure to use a good brand people because you might lock your self in ( I know from experience) and again thank you so much.
Thanks for your help! I did this in less than 10 minutes ! I had a hard time putting the last screw in the hole so my hubby was able to do it and wanted to take credit ... he said we replaced it together. You were more helpful than he was ! LOL
Thanks for the video. I was having a hell of a time installing new door knobs in our home, but you have answered a number of questions I had. Thankyou.
Thanks so much for posting this video! I currently live with my boyfriend and his family and his younger brother has a habit of stealing our things. I'm going to see if we'll be allowed to install a lock handle on our bedroom door and if we can, I'm sure I'll be back watching this video! Very informative, thank you~
Jane thank you very much. You explained everything perfectly. I ran into some problems but not because of yours instructions as they were perfect. My issue was 2 fold. 1st since I was changing my br door from an indoor lockable to a keyed entry the design was slightly different. long story short I basically just had to modify the holes to fit the cylinder and create an inlay for the cylinder plate. I think that's what it's called I'm not sure but you probably know what I mean but your instructions gave me the basics to be confident in taking on the task so thank you very much.
Thank you for your video. I installed a door lock and I had accidentally reversed the beveled edge and couldn't figure out why the door wouldn't stay. Your video helped me realize what I did. Thanks!
Thank you so much. I have always depended on someone else to do the handy work for me and I did this by myself with your help Proud of myself, not ashamed to say :). Even if I did put it in upside down but hey, it works. To repeat other commenters you are awesome! Thanks a bunch
Thanks for such clear & simple directions! Being ridiculously broke means I gotta be a successful DIYer whether I want to or not (really, I do; it gave me SUCH a buzz when I fixed my dryer, esp after my neighbor swore if he couldn't figure it out, I'd sure never be able to...HA HA HA). I put your link on my Fb page too, which means that all 3 people who look at it occasionally may be coming here ;-) You may want to prepare your server for the flood. Bless you, SJD!
THANK YOU SO MUCH for your easy explanation of how to install a keyed entry door knob. I was so proud of myself when the job was done. Perfect video & instructions.
I just replaced my bedroom doorknob while watching this video. Hahaha *evil laugh* towards my niece who prefers my bathroom to the hallway bathroom. Aaaall mine 😭😂😂
One thing to note is that the bevel shouldn't necessarily face the exterior. I did that at first and it didn't work and I had to restart. It needs to face whichever way the door closes. Typically, doors open inwards, but if you have a door that opens outward and closes inward (like I do) then the bevel will be facing the wrong way and the door won't latch. Other than that, great tutorial!
I was about to have a complete meltdown when replacing an entry door knob. I was totally ignorant of the back stop adjustment (part of the fine print on the installation instructions). I never had to make an adjustment. I'm thinking I'm going to have to pack it all back up and make another run to Home Depot. My heart rate came way down when you pointed it out and explained it. The installation went like a dream after that trauma was resolved.
You make it look so easy!! I think I need to try this. I'm hopeless when it comes to pretty much any house-related repairs, so I'm slightly terrified. But my garage door lock is broken, and I just bought a new lawnmower that I don't want to get stolen. Since I don't have any money, I just resigned myself to lugging the lawnmower up and down the basement steps to keep it safe! But I just might try to do it myself. Keep your fingers crossed for me!
I can't put that piece 1:32 into my door. The door hole is too small, any suggestions? Should I get a rubber mallet and start pounding till it gets stuck in there?
Awesome tutorial, thank you! It felt more calming and I learned more and you're like the only woman doing this tutorial which made me feel better, I appreciate ppl like you :) Ps. Sometimes you need to tell ppl which side the keyhole goes bcs there are some crazies out there who do the opposite 😆
I got locked out twice from my apartment during the pandemic. Without the availability of a carpenter, this video helped me get thru my clumsy forgetful moments.
Great video , thank you for all the details and info on how to do this -- I will soon be putting in a few new doorknobs ( lock an key ) appreciate the helpful tips !!
In ALL the supposed 'professional' videos I watched before finding your video, NOT one of those mentioned the beveled edge. One video installed it backwards. I looked at the manual that shows bevel out. Thank you for teaching us the RIGHT way to install this knob!!
Thank you! nine years old but your instructions helped me!!! I had the bevel thing in the wrong way! Fixed thanks again!
Thank you. The "pro" who installed my new door and doorknob obviously didn't make sure to get the screws in the holes because my doorknob came off in my hands. I am not a handy person, but your video helped me get the job done. Thank you!

Awesome the introductions you gave helped a single girl change the door knob to her 90 year old dads house! Thank you!!
You Rock 👏!! I'm a landlord and own several properties. No more handyman!!
Thanks for refreshing my memory. I knew if I looked it up on your channel I would remember the steps to replacing my door knob and quit stressing over it. Yes I can do this!!!
yes, you can!!

Putting a lock on my bedroom door this weekend to keep my nosey roommates out! Thank you for the video!
I trust my roommate, but not the people she brings over
Me too!
I’m going out of town and I don’t trust my roommates .. soo lol

One of the best DIY videos I've watched. Everything is explained simply yet thoroughly, in a clear unaccented voice. Thank you!

Good job on explaining the backset and that hole that has to be perfectly centered in the middle of the doorknob. Thank you.
Thank you very much. I tried and tried to install a door handle this evening and I didn’t realize that it would slide over for the 2 3/4 position to center the holes. You’re a lifesaver
I didn't think I could do it but I watched your video and I installed a key door knob all on my own thank you!!

Thank you for your video. I installed a door lock and I had accidentally reversed the beveled edge and couldn't figure out why the door wouldn't stay. Your video helped me realize what I did.

Angie O'Brien Hi Angie, good for you!! You certainly should be proud of yourself. I'm so glad my video was helpful to you. Regards, Leah
Thank you! This was exactly the kind of instruction I needed to install my new (and now LOCKING) doorknob.
Thank you for explaining this so thoroughly! I had to learn how to and install a new door knob at 5am!

Thank you so much, also single female doing for the first time and very grateful for your excellent directions!
You're very welcome, Diann. I'm glad to be of help!
So after the dryer, the doorknob seemed like it oughta be cake. It was, thanks in part to you, esp the "obvious" reminders that could be easy to forget (like which side the beveled part aims)...and would mean that I'd have had to redo the whole thing if I'd gotten it backwards, & that would've been hard to do while slapping myself in the forehead the whole time.
So: locksmith charge would've been $175. My cost: 8.95 for the new doorknob kit, 10 minutes' effort (not counting the vid). Another HAHAHA to the world, and thank you again!! I'll come here first next time I have to fix anything. I put your link on my Fb page too, which means that all 3 people who look at it occasionally may be coming here ;-) You may want to prepare your server for the flood.
Bless you, SJD!
+Kelly Howard Thanks, Kelly, and way to go on completing your dryer and doorknob projects! We're glad to have been of help. :)
Such clear instructions! My error was in not doing the adjustment, and your video helped me correct the problem. Thanks!
+janefinch01 you're very welcome!
What a great video! I was curious about one part and ended up watching the whole thing! Now my garage door has new hardware
Thank You! I had given up last night. I watched your video and got it done right away!! Thanks@
Thank you for easy directions! I needed a refresher course as I forgot how to install them. Your a life saver!. thank you
Thank you Jane for making yet another home job look easy!
Very detailed without being overwhelming. Leaves nothing unanswered. Thanks Leah!
you're welcome, glad it was helpful!
thank you so much! You made it very easy and simple and I didn't have to watch a 20-minute video to do something so simple ❤🤗
THANK YOU SO MUCH for your easy explanation of how to install a keyed entry door knob. I was so proud of myself when the job was done. Perfect video & instructions.
I'm always happy when I find your videos to help me around the house 😁😊
Great video! It was thorough yet short which allowed me to follow along at my pace. 👍🏻
I just replaced my bedroom doorknob while watching this video. Hahaha *evil laugh* towards my niece who prefers my bathroom to the hallway bathroom. Aaaall mine 😭😂😂
Great note about the rectangular lock being dead center in the door knob cavity. Thanks for making this available!
you're welcome, glad it was helpful!
Thank you Leah! I had the beveled edge put on backwards, and the door wouldn't shut close. Nice video.
you're welcome, Elliot, glad it was helpful!

Your videos are always helpful and easy to follow! Used your "How to fix a screen door" video this past summer and now this one! Thanks.
Tracie Clothier Hi Tracie, you can do it! Feel free to write me if any questions come up while you're doing the job. :)
I can't put that piece 1:32 into my door. The door hole is too small, any suggestions? Should I get a rubber mallet and start pounding till it gets stuck in there?
Drill the hole larger
Awesome and to the point! Going to be changing the door knobs on my new house tomorrow!!
Excellent instructor. So clear, concise verbal and video instructing. Thank you!
Thank you. I followed your directions precisely and it was a piece of cake.

Thank you. I have to do this today. But I think the long screws are recommended for the plate so it's harder to kick in.
Good luck with your project!
Awesome tutorial, thank you! It felt more calming and I learned more and you're like the only woman doing this tutorial which made me feel better, I appreciate ppl like you :)
Ps. Sometimes you need to tell ppl which side the keyhole goes bcs there are some crazies out there who do the opposite 😆
I'm a fan! Thank you for a very useful tutorial... I feel better knowing what I'm about to get into.
Thank you! Detailed explanation. I thought I knew how to,your video gave me the courage to do so.
I just installed my door knob myself with the help of your video! Thanks again:)
