The costume design also plays a big role in helping all of them feel distinctive from each other. Even Lemon and Tangerine, who could arguably be counted as “one” player in the overall situation (e.g. they share their onscreen name moment, when all the others get one each), the way they dress is very distinctive from each other, Tangerine being the smarter and more meticulous of the two while Lemon is more casual, fitting their respective personalities. And there’s a whole load of little details that reiterate this, like the moment at 12:56, where Tangerine takes care to carefully fold his coat out of the way and Lemon just chucks his across the isle onto a seat.
And you can tell they both take pride in their respective appearances too. There’s a _ton_ of little moments like Lemon refusing to button up his jacket to hide the blood stains because he wants people to see his new tie, and Tangerine fixing himself up in mirrors or brushing stuff off his suit (like at 12:56), or my personal favourite, when Lemon fixes his brother’s tie for him while they’re trying to figure things out. Something that this movie has is that it's the perfect example of "show don't tell". Every character is shown as the absolute badass that it is: how Lemon and Tangerine start counting kills and showing them to us, how the backstory of the White Death is also developed so when he finally appears in the movie, we already have in our head he's dangerous. I think that helps a lot to make the characters memorable: we aren't told they are dangerous, the movie show it to us.
That's why my favorite character was The Wolf. The movie spent a good while showing us how dangerous and terrible he was, even if it was really weird when the movie suddenly decides to jump 25 years in the past... to kill it the next scene. Even if he lasted so little, he's still very memorable, his character was great, we understood him perfectly and was very related to everything that happened after that. Amazing how they did that.

It doesn't make best use of its best characters, the least interesting characters get the most time, and a lot of what is fun about it has been done better before. It has its issues imo. The pacing isn't great and it really didn't need an overblown CGI finale. I also think that while I really enjoyed how all their stories were interconnected, some of the connections felt a bit forced and contrived and some of the reveals felt shallow and convenient with little build up.
As a movie experience, I ABSOLUTELY enjoyed it. It's the most fun I've had with a blockbuster in years, and I love all the characters. As a film, it's far from perfect.

It is so rare to see competent movies like this one. So neatly tied up. Every element introduced has a pay off, some have multiple pay offs increasing in depth. Every time I started to wonder about something that didn´t make sense (according to in universe logic at least) the movie had an answer ready a couple of minutes later. Me, thinking: Why is the train so suddenly empty, did they run out of money for extras? White death: I bought all seats so I know whoever remains is the people I have to kill. Me: A bit clichéd and lazy that kissing booth over here just gets run over, but I guess that´s how fate operates. Movie: Nah, it was lemon with a tangerine truck. Me for a split second: So are people really falling asleep after just a few sips of drug water? Movie at the beginning: Brad don´t go overboard with the sleep powder, you almost killed a guy last time. Brad proceeds to go over every possible board with the sleeping powder making the water ultra potent. It was neat which helped my neurotic ass enjoy it that much more.

L: "I don't really luke it. It raises a false sense of security. You could be shot on the neck."
T: "Yeah, but it protects you from being shot on the chest."

Though personally I was hoping the tangerine truck was empty to imply Tangerine got his revenge in a way and save Ladybug as thanks for finding his brother alive by the hands of fate, but I understand they had to show Lemon was alive and not just in a minute.

I find this movie fascinating as an adaptation. For the first half of the movie it follows the book really well. The main difference is that the book is more grounded and the humorous elements, which also exist in the book, are toned down. However, because of that difference in tone, the book's ending no longer fit the movie, so they changed it. They continued to play on the tone they had established and had a ridiculous, action-packed ending, and I think that decision was brilliant. It really worked for the film in a way it wouldn't for the book and vice versa. Just that difference in tone had such drastic impact on story progression.
My only gripe with the film is I was disappointed with the Prince. They really dumbed down the character.

Went to check it out with friends for my birthday and boy am I glad I picked this movie! Basically went into it blind, which is honestly the best way of going to the movies. This movie was so well done. It balanced action and comedy perfectly while also having an engaging story with a big but great cast of characters (corresponding with the cast of great actors). Seeing it in a positive analysis video of yours, couldn't ask for more.

Weaving the sponsors into examples, providing genuinely good advice while seamlessly transitioning into the leftover details that end up taking a fraction of the time since the characteristics of it have already been explained is impressive. And it also inadvertently shows how exposition should ideally function; as something that's woven into the narrative so that it comes out organically and with purpose, rather than dumping all the info at the end.

honestly my only complaint was with certain writing elements that got a bit messy- i wasn't really sure why the wasp/wolf were brought in or what they meant at the end about "pushing the wrong kid"? - The Hornet (I think that's what you meant by Wasp) poisoned the neurosurgeon who was supposed to save the Boss' wife.
      - The Wolf is searching for the one who poisoned his bride and gang, and it was the Hornet.
      - The Boss paid the Hornet to poison his son.
      - The Boss gave info to the Wolf that the Hornet is going to be in the train (the file inside the Wolf's coat is filled with photos of the Hornet)
      - The Hornet will take care of the Son, The Wolf will take care of the Hornet.
      - The Boss will just simply pay the Wolf since he doesn't have any connection to his wife's death (as far as I can remember) or "silence" him as he's now just a lone wolf (ba dum tss) against a gang of yakuza.
Also, "pushing the wrong kid" is just another evidence to push "the magic of fate" theme. The Boss is "controlling" the assassins to kill each other, but fate "controlling" the path of whose child is going to be thrown down by the Prince and leading to the Elder who held a grudge to the Boss.

i also found the wolf's story iffy at first but i realized i missed some things on my second watch. we know his crew found out who was responsible for the mass poisoning and handed him an envelope with the person's info in it. we see him attack ladybug and i thought it was because he believed ladybug did it but when we're later shown that it was the hornet's picture in his envelope i got confused. on my second watch, i realized that he had recognized ladybug as the man who bumped into him and his bride at his wedding. he knew the hornet poisoned his bride and guests but he probably assumed ladybug and the hornet worked together since ladybug was also at the wedding but survived. as for the elder, i also wondered why he said what he said about pushing the wrong kid. on the second watch, i assumed he meant to say it in a "you got the wrong one" type of way as in she did what she did and expected no repercussions but obv that won't be the case. it could also be him stating that she accidentally assisted him in his mission (he said he's been trying to figure out a way to get his revenge even in his hiding) to get back at the white death, her father(not knowing that she also wanted her father dead).
one thing i wish i could get an answer for is how/why the father yuichi worked for the white death (maybe I'm mistaken but i heard the prince say that was how she pinpointed and chose him) if the white death and the elder(yuichi's father) are archenemies

Ngl i predicted just about everything that happened in this movie (the mascot being evil, the diesel sticker being left on the girl etc) but the fact that it all happened showed a great attention to detail and storytelling. The end got a tad out of hand story wise but in terms of pure goofy spectacle it was perfect. I smiled my entire way through this movie, and busted out laughing multiple times!

Bullet train was like an unexpectedly good serving of junk food. Splashy fun that played around with a few character-based concepts, and the plot was wrapped around that for the hell of it. For some reason I kept getting reminded of a dead rising game with a better plot, each character does charactery things and you enjoy the ride just to see what happens to them
