Sounds like Microsoft is making them prepare for a console release. That being said, I returned after a 11 year break to Warcraft and decided I don’t want to use any add-ons and I have been loving it.
Yep, when I came back for Dragonflight I used no addons and indeed the new UI editor was enough. When I later got a new puter I didnt even DL any and man, the actual game is pretty great.😄
I try to play with minimal addons, but with raiding it’s difficult to keep up with other players. I’d love it if they were just disabled with the base game providing everything that’s needed.
i said it last time i played the game i will never return to the game as long there is heavy need for addons to raid or do any activity .. the game became watching timers and bars instead of watching the boss .
It's not a hot take, while i would love to be able to play the game without addons i just don't see it happening. You need weakaruas for some specs to be even playable at higher lvls. Then even without weakaruas there are some QoL addons that smooth out WoWs rough edges. Not to mention details, remove that and not being able to see your damage ingame removes some of the fun/dopamine rush.
@@SWLDguitar1 Afflic, Spriest, Demo to keep track of imps despawn timer and also frost mage now if you're a spellslinger. But again this is for higher lvls of play, if you're a casual you don't need them. It could be more I don't play every class and spec.
I hate all informative and detailed addons. I only use specific addons solely for cosmetic. Shit like DBM, nameplate cooldowns, omni CD etc need to go.
They should also make proper visuals for proccs etc then (and/or even core (class) mechanics, hello frost mage?). I main boomkin and imo without weakauras its very very difficult to properly maximize damage. (No eclipse bar? really?!?) I don't trust blizz to be competent to do this AT ALL. I believe that if the game would be in a broken state because of this done wrong, a lot of people will actually be quitting.
Idk why it’s the ‘norm’ or rather the ‘peak’ gameplay having addons blasting the player about incoming damage. U have eyes, use them. These npcs have built in ai combat rotation lol. Same for PvP. Seeing addons track classes’ cds is just so disgusting. I can understand DR but CDs just takes away the ‘outplay’ sense of PVP when u can track the other team’s ‘go.’
I used to raid in the past, even played in top guilds, nowadays i can't even find a guild only those guilds that randomly invites people who are guildless, it used to be so easy to find guilds in the past
Same exact boat. Every guild that interests me has hours of like 9pm to 1am, which is impossible as being part of society. If i do find a guild with all the proper things in place, it's a rebuild guild and isn't doing anything "yet" (likely never again).
You cant keep the same level of ability vomit that raids have now and scale back addons, you have to reduce the amount of abilities that bosses have, thats why addons exist, boss ability spam has gotten out of hand.
If they removed addons this would actually break there customer base and destroy there income. Players have adapted to the use of addons that the UI has failed to actually solve such as Healing, Boss mechanics, Base cooldowns, Reminders of what not to stand in. If they remove the addons they will only hurt themselves like cutting off there legs at the chest with the rediculous amount of things you need to keep track of there is no way for 80% of players to keep up.
A good idea could be us going back to our class halls or repurpose the class trainers to help new players get a PVP tutorial for each class in a 1v1 style. It could even have an increase in difficulty for more experienced players. Juat spitballing an idea.
Dude, give this raid last bosses - put every possible mechanic there with everything one-shotting you on every difficulty - of course ppl will use addons to make fight more clear and coordinated
Removal of addons would be the fastest way to finish off wow. Reduction is fine. Especially in raids but the base ui is so bad it would need a massive amount of updates to function
Hi Supa, did you buy a Brutosaurus with AH and a mail? I'm really torn on whether or not I should buy it since it is really convenient having one and it seems to be a limited time offer...
It is really for convenience and nothing else. Is it really useful? absolutely. Is it required? No. Do you use the AH a lot? Then your time using it will make the purchase worth it. Other than that, it provides no significant character power boost.
You need addons, if you wanna be competitive and that's all what retail has to offer. Competition. This isn't vanilla. Without addons, you will be in huge disadvantage, especially as a PVP player. Same as MMA fighter, who won't do weight cut. You can fight without weight cut, but you will be way small for weight class.
Noooo please don't remove my addons! :'( I don't have the time to play and since I'm pretty casual and play solo, these help me keep up with knowing what I should do and not get hate from other players. I just got back after a hiatus and there are so many raids and dungeons I've never run, and I never know what is going on - and it's not like anyone is going to tell me what is happening. I've been KICKED for asking how a mechanic works. I'm autistic so I need clearer instructions than what wow provides 'base' game. The dungeons and raids don't explain anything. I can't see or process the "hints" of animations or whatever that are stacked on top of each other or if they happen so fast, I can't have time to react. Counters help me prepare. Like, they are literally accessibility for me to be able to play as disabled. I need that 'big button pop up' telling me what is happening and what to do.. I need the vocal call outs to tell me if I need to move. Otherwise I won't notice, I will get hit or die - and just make things harder for healers by being an unneeded problem. If wow is worried about non-addon users then make fights catered to them first but if people want or need addons after the fact, then they should let them. If I wanted it to be hard and frustrating I'd play without help, but I'd rather not get frustrated about being killed over and over in a dungeon or kicked for asking questions. And when there are like 20-40 people + bosses and mobs stacked on each other, there is no effing way I'm going to see mine or any other persons "special animations"

@@Kmaitland89if you can’t track basic cooldowns you need glasses. The game is not hard and youre not playing at a high enough level to warrant multiple add ons
Addons are simply enhancements that are not "required". When you play the game without it tends to run smoother and not hogging resources, however, playing without addons pretty much makes the game not optimal based on the amount of information your brain can process and play efficiently. I personally like Addons, it is one of the things that helps customize your experience and as of recently the past couple of expansions, Devs have incorporated many addon features into the baseline of the game because those are so popular. I don't agree with many of the statements or stance on addons in this video except for needing healing addons to help you get better which for myself I don't use, and the result is I do not enjoy or heal very well so I stick to DPS and Tanking
Game is too complex to remove them esp for pvp. Disable all of urs and try, bet you would be like "wtf is going on" and "guess I got oneshotted hehe gg" without them.
@@Icicleyoto be fair it would be like that with or without addons. The game is too complex and there are too many spells and passive effects. It’s the reason MOBAs took over and overshadowed wow pvp for the last 10-15 years
Regarding PvP... there needs to be an easy in-game way to know what abilities are nerfed/buffed in PvP with resorting to addons or third party websites.
Wonder why it took them so long to deliberate this. Also I'm surprised they're going for the addons/ui first and not pruning. I feel like the need for addons came from the ability/proc count from the past and that culture stuck with wow ever since. UI/UX is a big part for sure, but they're all intertwined. I would go even further and visually standardize the icons for cds/procs/debuffs, as well as making player frames, action bars, and abilities noncustomizable. You can have custom keybinds and that's it.
I am a Heroic Raider, have KSM for most Seasons, the Commander title for RBGs and the only add-ons I have are Details! and Questie (classic). Granted, I have been playing since 2004... I feel like it's manageable if you have been playing since the beginning but might be out of reach for a new player. I would love to see more QoL for the non add-on enjoyers like myself and a smoother experience for someone trying out the game for the first time. Wins all around! P.s. I will probably buy that pet if I'm being honest with myself LoL but I can see some of the M+ community crying about all the work they did for their portals. Can't please everyone 😅
I'm all for removing addon dependance in dungeons and raids, but totally opposed to removing addons, which I doubt they're considering, but still that would ruin the game for me.
It would be an adjustment period going back to playing like i used to but it would be so much more enjoyable for me in the long run. I know a lot of guildies who would quit if their addons stopped working. Hopefully this change will make the game feel less competitive and pressure but maybe not if people can still do logs. Idk anything about how logs work though weather its an addon or recording via the site or whatever.
Here's a thought. Make raid and dungeon achievements only available to players who do them with no addons. This includes world firsts! This would allow more casual players to still be able to complete the content, but the min/max crowd can still be truly challenged. And/or have better loot drops in instances where no addons were used. Give the players an incentive to not use addons.
90% of players cant complete even most heroic raids without addons or nerfs to the raids. With all of the mechanics, Random interactions, healing ability, damage requirements for most bosses is more then enough to make there player base quit after they realize they dont stand a chance to complete that raid.
It took Blizz almost 20yrs to implement keybinding the way Bartender was doing it for over a decade, easy and intuitive, simple, as it should be on a game, but no, these idiots and their DEI hires couldn't bake something into the ui which the community was already doing because..?
Players have and allways will optimize the fun right out the game. So unless they outright ban the addons API it won't change crap. People will still use them.
I can see the "quick" fix being disabling addons in content. So the second you zone into a raid/m+/etc all your addons are disabled. But there's going to have to be some filter for addons for folk with disabilities. Perhaps we unlock the true nightmare future where everyone is using accessibility addons to gain an edge! :P
I’d be fine if they reduced add-ons down to just cosmetic stuff like Elvui. But since I play with a controller if they removed all add-ons I’d probably quit wow.
But it really matter, that they add a better UI, Godly one, and updates weekly, if not hotfix daily. Especially tracking my abilities, that I want to track, and not some huge visual stuff, those are horrible. Let's be honest they tuckt up long ago.
THEY NEED TO TAKE AWAY ADDONS IN PVP, it would be waaaaaaay more fun/satisfying to track, and also eaiser to full send goes helping increase the pace of games
in terms of pvp, the used addon close the gab between the average player and the pro. addons like weak auras, gladiatorlosa, etc are helping to get into the game and its no rocket sience to set them up. in this case the experienced pvper is the raidboss and it will have massive inpact to the game to ban addons. in pve it might be true and it might help to cut down the influence of addons, but ffs blizzard dont listen to the wrong pvp content creators again...
Actual 04 vet here. Addons always existed and bg cap timers were required for the level 60 AV grind. Not only that I had to learn how to install and use ventrilo as a 9 year old back in 2004, was pretty difficult. All G though, they can do what they want.. remove addons, dont remove addons. Wont make a difference. Addon's were always used just more annoying to install due to curseclient not being its fully formed self yet.. The removal of addons would actually make me happy the more I think about it.. It would keep the already inflated bad players down in my solo ques and increase the skill gap 10 fold. Plus the bad players carried by addons around 2400 would no longer be able to perfectly track my dragons deep breath cd! Which would allow more abuse from cheese classes and builds that I play! sounds pretty great tbh.
If they remove add-ons im out. Done with the game. Idc about raids but in pvp there is no way to read everyone's buffs to know what's happening in a meta where the slowest 100-0 tanks still kill in under 10 seconds and the fastest 100-0 is under 2 sec
lol they remove add ons i would be shocked they carry the game at this point imo. There is so much going on without being able to determine what you want to track most are fried in mythic and PvP.
Seeing a lot of negativity in the comments, but who cares if someone wants to pay to be able to tp to mop dungeons? Or wants to pay for fancy stuff in their house? Its the way modern games work, and if they want to survive this is what they have to do - meanwhile it negatively affects nobody.
Good changes, game is going in a better direction. But I fear it may be too little and too late. This has been an issue for a long time. Now the game is in bad shape. Almost no one is PvPing, mythic raid has been slowly dying, and M+ is god awful this season. I'm surprised they do more of this sooner.
honestly this will shoot my rating to another 2400+ with add on i dont use alot of weakaura and stuff that shows peoples cd and DR during arenas !! good news
I've been saying it for years, "how is WoW even a game when the addons play it for you?" It's true. DBM, weakauras, even gladius is not playing the game. I'm all for getting rid of EVERY addon other than a damage meter - it has worked for GW2 for 12 years, it can work with WoW. You don't need party or raid frames, you don't need vudu, you don't need any of that crap. Back in Vanilla you could make a macro that would HEAL the lowest % target in your party... YOU WEREN"T PLAYING THE GAME! Blizzard removed it to make the game better. If they remove the addons too, the game will be better. Regarding PvP, yes, remove it all. I'm the type of player that is aware of my surroundings, i can see the wings, the tyrant, the ascendance, i don't need the addons, but the fact that people do, ruins the game. I was just thinking the other day how i used to be able to HEAR when a warrior used "pummel," and it was from years of playing - now people just track it and pay no mind to the actual game. 10/10 will 100% support this change!
dmg meters,rp addons, UI addons are fine. Its the cheating addons for pvp that is the biggest offence. The ones telling you what spells and trinkets are on cooldown for example. Why they ever allowed that is beyond me.ban all those, have a level playing field.
The only addon thats even worth using is details, to track my own performance in Dungeons etc. Did i do enough interrupts? Did i do enough damage on the boss? And so on. Tried weaks auras a couple of times but it gets annoying having lots of garbage cluttering the screen and deadly boss mods really should not be necessary to play the raid but jesus christ how toxic the boss design has been in mythic raid and mythic plus bosses
I'd be happy if Auto Loot worked...it doesn't. Simply boss fights? Who made boss fights so overcomplicated that people developed factual programs to assist with them? It went from "don't stand there" to; stand here, move, interrupt, move, stand here, run over there, interrupt, move, stand here, move, move, move, touch this thing, interrupt, stand here, move, move, and if you don't you wipe the raid.
Too many abilities in the game now; I don’t think I could go back to playing without a few simple addons in pvp. If they simplify the game I’m down with that tho.
Didn't Asmongold bring up the exact problems they are describing, years ago? I'm sure other people were saying the same thing but I first heard it from Asmon a while ago. Yet again, Blizzard taking YEARS to fix problems.Same thing happened with solo queue arena, they added it years later when people stopped caring.
At this point in WoW PvP at least, there's very little you can do without addons. How can you tell when the Warrior popped Recklessness? Oh yeah, small glowy red arms - by the time you notice that you're already dead. Someone's Pain Supped? Uhhh let me check 13 different buffs they have on them. Is that Rogue Cloaked or using Shadow Dance? Did that Shaman just use Astral Shift? Oh wait, is that SPriest bursting? Wait, did Warlock wall get used? Did Mage use Icy Veins because I can't fucking see him over the 4 blinks he has. This game NEVER had clear queues on what spells are being used, it was a way way slower game back in the day and it was a castbar watching game. Removing addons in PvP is, unfortunately, almost impossible at this point - only at highest levels where plays are telegraphed and the in-game knowledge and experience is so huge can this be somewhat achieved, but this would screw over 95% of the remaining PvP playerbase. What they are, most likely, doing is adding RNG mechanics to the game where an addon CANNOT tell you what to do and you have to deal with them on your own. Or simply not having timed boss abilities.
I hope they can do this in PvP as well..Addons in ranked PvP are no different than aimbots in fps games…players don’t even have to think about anything anymore..letting you know if they used trinket, or big cds. It’s literally cheating.. I miss the days of you HAD to pay attention now it’s you can just mindlessly press buttons and the addons tell you when to use what..it’s just not fun anymore
If they did this, especially for PvP.. I'd be so happy lol
If they make the UI useful
Legit, the only thing they really need is a gladius type interface and that’s it

Seriously guys, wtf. Y’all need to be way more alarmed by this crap. We have player housing coming up. This shit is gonna get even more ridiculous if you don’t take a stand right now.
Nobody cares about the store mounts dude, if certain players have the cash to burn, they will buy it. Can't do anything about that, certain players will buy the mount, others will say f that, just how it goes
That ship sailed a long time ago. Sales from the brutosaur already show it's normalized.
No
Exactly. It’s not pay to win. Not a big deal the mounts
You sound like an alarmist other than anything rigorous stated
Sounds like Microsoft is making them prepare for a console release. That being said, I returned after a 11 year break to Warcraft and decided I don’t want to use any add-ons and I have been loving it.
Yep, when I came back for Dragonflight I used no addons and indeed the new UI editor was enough. When I later got a new puter I didnt even DL any and man, the actual game is pretty great.😄
I try to play with minimal addons, but with raiding it’s difficult to keep up with other players. I’d love it if they were just disabled with the base game providing everything that’s needed.
Very cool. Let's do it for arena too.
i said it last time i played the game i will never return to the game as long there is heavy need for addons to raid or do any activity .. the game became watching timers and bars instead of watching the boss .
hot take : addons carried those lazy/clueless devs to make this 20 years old game enjoyable. Remove addons completly and the game would die instantly
@@jethrodark2372 What spec _NEEDS_ addons?
@@SWLDguitar1 Afflic, Spriest, Demo to keep track of imps despawn timer and also frost mage now if you're a spellslinger. But again this is for higher lvls of play, if you're a casual you don't need them. It could be more I don't play every class and spec.
Dr trackers need to go first
I hate all informative and detailed addons.
(No eclipse bar? really?!?)
I don't trust blizz to be competent to do this AT ALL.
Look at how content is rushed out. Look at how bugs and issues are being a problem in the game for months and months or sometimes even years.
I foresee problems. A lot of em.
I can understand DR but CDs just takes away the ‘outplay’ sense of PVP when u can track the other team’s ‘go.’
its cheating, plain and simple.
This would make wow more new player friendly… add ons have been a product of bliz being to lazy for years
I used to raid in the past, even played in top guilds, nowadays i can't even find a guild only those guilds that randomly invites people who are guildless, it used to be so easy to find guilds in the past
We need an add on for that
Same exact boat.
That would legit make me resubb. A fair ground, a game balanced for the game not the insane addons.
engineer's have toys that port you. i have one for most zones.
It would be fun if they made servers with add-ons off. I would deffo roll a new toon there and all my friends too
They just need to turn off the ones that play the game for you that's really all there is too it
I have proposed this multiple times over the past few years on the forums and got dogpiled every time... No-addon servers would be saweet.
Thia is wonderful news, especially for PVP..addons are not fair.
It would be very strange if the West got the teleportation pet after they said they don’t want the world to feel smaller
Please do this for pvp
Thats an animal called red panda even tho is not even a bear
I bought it because I’m not poor. You should too
You don't NEED addons to play. You only need addons if you min/max.
Incorrect
You dont need engine to go to places, can use horse.
@@SudoNitro You obviously don't know the difference between need and want.
@@FonFreeze Yes, you can use a horse.
I don't have the time to play and since I'm pretty casual and play solo, these help me keep up with knowing what I should do and not get hate from other players.
Good, sick of addons. Wow pve players are the absolute worst in the genre.
Then they need to fix the game so that we can actually track things.
I also really like WA's, the ones you use to see your rotational abilities.
@@Kmaitland89if you can’t track basic cooldowns you need glasses. The game is not hard and youre not playing at a high enough level to warrant multiple add ons
@@Kmaitland89 You don't need to track anything.
@@rabee53 Yes let me stare at the top right of my screen for tiny icons for the buffs and procs that I get in my rotation.
@@vaeell6532 You can move those with the default UI nice try though.
Literally everyone wants them to fully remove addons in all forms of content
"Literally" means zero people want to keep addons. I wouldn't pvp if weak auras disappeared, so not "literally everyone" wants them removed.
@@michaels5217 being in the 0.1% of naysayers means u don’t exist, hello ghost
Game is too complex to remove them esp for pvp. Disable all of urs and try, bet you would be like "wtf is going on" and "guess I got oneshotted hehe gg" without them.
@@Icicleyoto be fair it would be like that with or without addons. The game is too complex and there are too many spells and passive effects. It’s the reason MOBAs took over and overshadowed wow pvp for the last 10-15 years
@@FeintToParry ye I agree. And its only gotten worse over the years, so it definately wouldnt make sense to remove them now.
that would be the biggest W wow retail had in a while if addons would be nuked
Regarding PvP... there needs to be an easy in-game way to know what abilities are nerfed/buffed in PvP with resorting to addons or third party websites.
When they remove add ons, I am 100% done.
Good get rid of all add ons! all of it make everyone even playing field no add one I love it! This makes my heart so happy 😊
High Burst classes would rule the day without addons.
The Ascension GG advert 😂
I'm all for removing addon dependance in dungeons and raids, but totally opposed to removing addons, which I doubt they're considering, but still that would ruin the game for me.
as someone whos been multi glad with almost 0 addons aside from re sizing blizzards already dogshit arena frames i see this as an absolute win
As someone who plays both WoW and FF14, I despise WoWs addon dependency.
@@ravinofsin2685 Simply not true. Please show us the data to back up your claim.
Addons are part of the game. If they go I go and no one would care if I did.
Wow, it is almost as if some nobody had been stirring the pot on this issue no one would talk about and Lo Blizz responded...
Duh Dunnn Dennnnn!
I love the idea of less addons.
And btw it looks like a red panda bear.
I wish Blizz had a server that did not allow addons for PvP.
Wanting the game to be easier has to be a rage bait take, not every player has to be Cutting Edge, difficulty is fine.
THEY NEED TO TAKE AWAY ADDONS IN PVP, it would be waaaaaaay more fun/satisfying to track, and also eaiser to full send goes helping increase the pace of games
They will have to massively simplify the game then, it’s way too complex
in terms of pvp, the used addon close the gab between the average player and the pro. addons like weak auras, gladiatorlosa, etc are helping to get into the game and its no rocket sience to set them up. in this case the experienced pvper is the raidboss and it will have massive inpact to the game to ban addons. in pve it might be true and it might help to cut down the influence of addons, but ffs blizzard dont listen to the wrong pvp content creators again...
The problem is ppl just copy people in this game. You don’t need Addons until you’re at the top level, otherwise it’s just a skill issue
Oh my god whenever I’m about to quit they drop a gem
Gradually change it is a terrible idea
All for it, "needing" to use addons was always silly. It feels a lot like Runelite with osrs, pretty much unplayable without it now.
Not to mention the fps lag due to addons
if addons are removed, wow would be the best MMORPG in the world
When we first played this game there was never any addons. I wonder how we survived
We......played the game as it was
If they remove add-ons im out. Done with the game. Idc about raids but in pvp there is no way to read everyone's buffs to know what's happening in a meta where the slowest 100-0 tanks still kill in under 10 seconds and the fastest 100-0 is under 2 sec
REMOVE ADDONS! DO IT BLIZZ!!
lol they remove add ons i would be shocked they carry the game at this point imo. There is so much going on without being able to determine what you want to track most are fried in mythic and PvP.
The addon should also be banned: Spy. because it is not possible that it could indicate that there is a stealth nearby ....
Seeing a lot of negativity in the comments, but who cares if someone wants to pay to be able to tp to mop dungeons? Or wants to pay for fancy stuff in their house? Its the way modern games work, and if they want to survive this is what they have to do - meanwhile it negatively affects nobody.
The internet has become a negativity nexus 2024/2023 so just ignore it.
Microtransactions have destroyed gaming.
If they really delete all addons, I will come back to wow for some arena
Good changes, game is going in a better direction. But I fear it may be too little and too late. This has been an issue for a long time. Now the game is in bad shape. Almost no one is PvPing, mythic raid has been slowly dying, and M+ is god awful this season. I'm surprised they do more of this sooner.
I would absolutely love them getting rid of addons like DBM... nothing should essentially play the game for you.
honestly this will shoot my rating to another 2400+ with add on i dont use alot of weakaura and stuff that shows peoples cd and DR during arenas !!
As long as I/We get to have dps meters, everything else can go.
dmg meters,rp addons, UI addons are fine.
Hope they dont remove GSE. Im disabled and cant play without.
I cant wait to watch like half of the player base drop 100-200 raiting xD
Man pls I hope I promise you don’t need addons for pvp at all this coming from 19 years of experience
If they disable addon in pvp, ill get back to healing in arena full time!
Looks like a blue raccoon dog.
They’re not blue in real life.. but it’s a game.
Just ban addons and remove the functionality entirely
