  • This is my review of the 2017 Dodge Challenger SXT. There's more details below, but I just wanted to quickly say thank you for watching this video. Please comment below and share your thoughts on the new Challenger or just take a second and say 'Hey!'. I'd love to hear from you. Cheers.

    ► About this car:
    + MSRP: $26,995, but Dodge's site lists an "estimated selling price" of $23,031 after $2,250 of promotions.
    + Year: 2017
    + Make: Dodge
    + Model: Challenger
    + Configuration: SXT
    + Color: Go Mango Exterior Paint
    + Powertrain: 3.6-Liter V6 24-Valve VVT with the TorqueFlite 8-Speed Automatic Transmission.
    + Horsepower: 305
    + MPG: 19 city / 30 highway
    + Tank Size: 18.5 gallons
    + Wheels: 18-Inch Satin Carbon Aluminum Wheels
    + Seats: 2 (Dodge claims you can get three people in the back, but that's only true if they don't have legs.)
    + Towing Capacity: Please don't tow something with your challenger.
    +Touch Screen: Standard UConnect 5.0. You can get a larger touch screen (8.4 inches) for an extra $,1095. I'd do it. The standard touch screen is garbage.
    ► Additional Info:
    Go to: www.dodge.com. A word of warning, the site was incredibly slow for me. It look forever to "build" a car.
    + Blindside detection is available if you pay an additional $1,295 for the "driver convenience group" package. That's a bit pricey in my opinion. You can do it yourself using a kit for about $200 plus installation.
    + A sunroof is also available for an additional $1,195. I think I'd add it. This car feels like it should be a convertible so, at the very least, it should have a sunroof.
    + A "compact spare tire" is an additional $295. Come on Dodge, that ain't cool.

    ►About this Rental:
    Rental Car Number: 41
    Company: Enterprise
    Days Driven: 2
    Miles Driven: 142
    ►Other Reviews ("the critics"):
    Edmunds: 5/5
    Motor Trend: 4/5
    The Car Connection: 3.4/5
    ►Safety Ratings from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (www.nhtsa.gov)
    Overall Safety: 5 out of 5
    Frontal Crash: 4 out of 5
    Side Crash: 5 out of 5
    Rollover: 4 out of 5
    * Honestly, all the cars I've driven in the last 3 months have nearly the exact same score. I've only seen on 3 out of 5 and that was for rollover on the Ford Expedition. Everything else has been 4s or 5s...no matter how crappy the car.
    Available Recommended Safety Technology (either standard, optional, or not available):
    + Rearview Video System: Optional
    + Forward Collision Warning: Optional
    + Lane Departure Warning: Not available
    ►Safety Ratings from the Insurance Institute on Highway Safety (www.iihs.org)
    (1) Crashworthiness (scores are good, acceptable, marginal and poor):
    + Small overlap front: Marginal (worst rating I've seen in a while)
    + Moderate overlap front: Good
    + Side: Good
    + Roof strength: Acceptable
    + Head restraints & seats: Acceptable
    (2) Crash Avoidance & Mitigation:
    + Front crash prevention: Basic with optional equipment (worst I've seen in a while)
    + Headlights: not rated.
    (3) Child Seat Anchors Ease of Use: Acceptable. (Honestly, I didn't even check the child seat anchors on this car. The back seat is so small I wouldn't even both trying to load my kid in the back. This is NOT a kid friendly car. Grow up and by a minivan...the Chrysler Pacifica is super nice, btw.

    You have a very pleasant voice. You sound like an english professor. Nice review and yeah the head unit sux but you have a base SXT without the frills. The SXT plus has the larger 8 inch unit that is waaaay better. Challengers are cruisers. Its made for a comfortable drive in a straight line. Its not meant for going fast into turns. The camaro and mustang does that better. I prefer the appearance of the challenger. The road presence it has is unmatched by other performance cars.

    • @100RentalCars
      @100RentalCars  6 лет назад +1

      Thanks for the kinds words and the great comment. I hadn't thought about this being a "cruiser". Makes sense though, since it really does feel like a car that you want to be seen it. It's beautiful. I hope I wasn't too critical in this review, I do tend to like smaller cars that corner well and the Challenger....well it just doesn't fit that mold.

    I love sports cars. I learned to drive in a 94 camaro and I've been hooked since. My parents love gm but I'm into challengers chargers and 300s. I own a 300c and a challenger and will eventually get a charger. Long story short from a guy that enjoys his vehicles I think you did a good unbiased job. That little screen is a no go though. 8 in should be standard.

      +Wally World Oh I have no intention of being objective. My videos are 100% opinion. Sorry if you were misled. And yes, I am not a muscle car guy. I'm much more into practically and fuel efficiency. So that's me. How about you? What's your thoughts on the Challenger?

    • @wallyworld2174
      @wallyworld2174 7 лет назад +8

      I own one and love it. I am a muscle car guy and have been since the mid 70's. In my experience muscle car guys or even car enthusiasts in general do not buy their cars for practicality or fuel efficiency. People who buy for these reasons usually view a car as a vehicle for getting from A to B as inexpensive/efficient as possible. There is absolutely nothing wrong with that and it is probably the wiser decision in the long run. The first group I mentioned view cars as an extension of their personalities,investments,childhood dream realized,etc and some to an obsessive amount (leno.seinfeld). Practicality and mpg do not even enter the first groups mind, possibly blocked by a blinding passion for a car. I think dodge did a great job with the modern challenger, enough tech to keep it modern, brute power, vintage aesthetics. People complain about the size but all cars from the 70's are huge, being over 50 helps you appreciate the retro design. Nostalgia is a hell of drug

    • @100RentalCars
      @100RentalCars  7 лет назад +3

      +Wally World I think you're absolutely right, I do view these cars as "transport" and I don't have much of an emotional connection to the them. I'm not sure why, but I think your "nostalgia is a hell of a drug" has something to do with it. I was never exposed to muscle cars as a kid. Anyway, sorry my video disappointed you. I'll try and put a little more love into things in the future. And thanks for the great response, you really got me thinking about all this.

    Meh the 3.6L V6 in the Challenger, crysler 300, dodge charger, Durango and jeep grand Cherokee is pretty old and could use a new engine IMHO. The engine is only naturally aspirated with variable valve timing. No turbo charging and forgive me if I'm wrong but no direct injection as well. The acceleration is OK but with all that weight and the torque is under 260 it's OK. Honestly my favorite of the pony cars is the camaro and than the Mustang.

    • @100RentalCars
      @100RentalCars  7 лет назад +1

      +Ben Dunn Thanks for the info on the VVT. So, in the last 12 months I've driven the 2016 mustang, 2017 camaro, 2017 charger, and now the 2017 challenger. I think my order would be: (1) challenger, (2) camero, (3) mustang, (4) charger. But...I don't think I'd buy any of them. The Fiat 500x is more fun to drive and the crappy electric car I drove last year (I can't remember the name at the moment) accelerates much faster than all of them. I guess what I'm saying is, yeah I agree with your "meh". But this was still a fun experience.

    • @elliekim6666
      @elliekim6666 7 лет назад +2

      100 Rental Cars if you tried a Ford Mustang GT or even the Shelby or even a Camaro SS which you can all rent ( Shelby at Hertz) I think you might change your order lol. I think of between the rental cars I agree though. In terms of comfort I would make the Mustang second though. The V6 in the Challenger and camaro males some nice exhaust noise unlike the Mustang since it's only an inline 4 turbo. In terms of looks I love the camaro but I prefer more comfortable cars over these pony or muscle cars IMHO.

    • @100RentalCars
      @100RentalCars  7 лет назад

      +Ben Dunn I will try to get a GT or Shelby in the next few months. No doubt it'll be fun. Honestly though, I'm not a huge fan of the muscle cars. They're fun, but besides the acceleration there's not much too them. Then again, I still know so little, so I guess I need to drive a bunch more.

    Reviewer doesn't like the "spartan control cluster", or push pedal parking break or the chrome fuel cap cover??? I think it's pretty common knowledge that this car is styled/designed based on the 1971 Dodge Challenger, and all those touches are a nod to that iconic car. I love that fuel cap, the head and tail lights, the cockpit...basically everything. I can't wait to get this car in my garage!

      Hey Eddie, I bought the 2016 V6, and its fine. You buy according to how you feel. I bought it because I wanted the best MPG, the style of the car to turn heads, the lower price of a car so I wasn't losing too much, AND I didn't want temptation to push the accelerator because I plan to treasure the car, NOT beat it up. There's nothing wrong with the V6 versions, I know you'll love them.

    Nearly a year and 10,000 miles with my 2016 Challenger SXT and I still get a big grin on my face every time I get behind the wheel. Fit and finish are exceptional on this head turner, and it gobbles up the miles effortlessly with its boulevard ride, quiet comfy interior, 305 hp V6, and smooth shifting 8 speed auto trans. Absolutely thee best long distance runner I've ever owned. It's pretty darn sweet around town too.

    Love the classic muscle car inspired styling and everything about them!
    If the base models for these came in a bit cheaper......
    I could easily see my self getting stupid and buying one in 2014 rather then the Mitsubishi Mirage I purchased.
    If I did purchase one of them the bright side is in my area these cars hold their value!
    (I know this because I went to a local classified website to check what they go for now)
    I still remain very impressed how well equipped base model cars are now!
    Chrysler is not even known for keeping up with the market and for a base model I gotta admit I'm impressed with that Challenger still!
