I'd disagree with the idea of nerfing annihilape/reducing its meta presence. It's a great example of a pokemon that was done justice with its moveset. It's on the glassier side of things, made strong by the moves It's given and its great typing. On top of that, it's incredibly easy to obtain. I'd like to see annihilape remain at this level for seasons to come, much like medi did. But unlike medi, it's accessible and not bulky, which were 2 of the biggest complaints about medicham
ape is just too balanced and has no significant denial power unlike lanturn and skarmory its just so neutral and like you said accessible, if it gets nerfed itll hit something else and thats not fair so it cannot be nerfed
Noctowl ironically is the nerf to the ape. Typing and moveset are the counters you need. Maybe even without a buff with all the people adding it it may start a comeback.
They just need to FOCUS on fixing the state of GBL. Frame drops are affecting too many matches as well as “new mechanic” with charge move being a coin flip if you get to throw it or not
With this being my second gbl season I’ve managed to hit veteran last season I was at 2000. I just wanna say thanks for the guides and the content you push out, I learn a lot. I finished at 2,019 last season and am currently sitting at 2,542. With a few weeks left to go I can definitely see the improvement. So again Thank you!! I’m looking forward to next season and see how car I can go.
10:51 There's one pokemon which was skelederge When it came 1st it was sort of anti meta and then after incinerate buff it was meta then got bit down but still useable mon without legacies
At the point that one fast move is warping the meta as much as counter does, you've got to admit you have a problem, nerf it, and rebalance elsewhere. You can nerf Counter, if you really want to, it just takes extra work to rebalance elsewhere. I agree that Niantic is lazy and won't do it, but you absolutely can and should nerf something that is warping the meta this much. If they were serious about the competitive nature of the game they would do it. But they're not. Which is also why the "we don't want to disturb the meta for world championship" is a garbage excuse. They don't care one bit about the competitive nature of the game when you leave it in the state it's been in for the last few weeks.
I mean like he said if you nerf counter you absolutely destroy like every fighter and if u think about it I’m not saying it does but it’s like impossible to nerf annihlape like u can’t nerf counter if u nerf shadow ball that’s almost every ghost and like night slash I mean doesn’t need to be nerfed imo anni might be meta for a very long time
@@mikebonannowashere part of what's annoying for annihilape is it's moveset flexibility. There's realistically 4 viable movesets, and you don't know for certain which you're facing. Countering it with Gligar? Probably need to shield the first one because they may have IP. Want to farm down a low health one? Probably need to shield as likely one of DP or SB will kill. I just wish they hadnt given it such coverage. If they did it like most other mons where it's charge moves were just SB, NS, and like Low Kick, it would still be good, but a lot more matchups would be comfortable
Bring swiss army Hypno (especially shadow of course) back into a solid anti-meta role by making psyshock a rock slide clone (+ 5dmg from its current state). Would make farm downs easier against meta threats like the fighters while giving it slightly better neutral matchups. Doesn't break Meloetta in master league so I think this minor change could be good.
I would love to see either hypno get psycho cut or have confusion get buffed but the issue with a confusion buff is that cresselia gets buffed in the process which we absolutely dont want
@carreragt006 Absolutely madness if cress had the confusion buff you're right. It's tough to know what could be reasonable tweaks bc there's always a mon that slips through the cracks it seems.
It’s annoying to me that I still don’t have a Tropius. Hit legend twice in GBL 2021-2022. Quit playing for a couple years. Came back this season. As somebody coming back - annihilape is a high ranking like GL registeel that maybe doesn’t reflect how balanced it truly is. Gligar, Whiscash, and Poliwrath are way more oppressive imo. Anyway… I hope they release Tropius as a limited regional again. Also hope they offer another chance to get Giratina-O. I traded for three of them and got a 1458, 1462, and one over 1500. Stop gatekeeping meta relevant pokemon, Niantic. Please… I do like that they fixed the fast move problem so counting is actually the most relevant aspect of being a top player.
I'm suggesting to buff Vine Whip to dealt 6 DMG (Same as Shadow Claw) and Sludge Bomb either increase Damage to 85 DMG or giving a Def drop. Grass Types aren't really much of a threat when it comes to Farming Down. Example Venusaur vs Whiscash, although Venusaur has the type advantage, Whiscash still can reach to 2 Mud Bombs in the 1 Shield Scenario. At the end of it Venusaur would be at half HP, allowing opponent to comfortably farm down from Venusaur. This puts Venusaur in an uncomfortable spot where its energy is already maxed (inefficient) and cannot one shot the opponent.
I remember really liking the 30 second switch timer. It would honestly undo a lot of the impact that "skilled debuffs" have on the current meta and allows for way more outplay protentional since it would be much harder to RPS someone
Great video, I enjoy listening to your well thought out takes on the meta. Personally I really don’t think Niantic has any idea what they want to achieve with the meta, they take away Walrien just to replace it with Dewgong and act like something changed, may not be the best example but I’m still salty about my purple walrus not being top tier anymore haha
Air Slash does need a buff. Scald is fine the problem is Poliwrath should have not gotten icy wind. Tenta needs scald just the way it is. EQ needs back it's prestige.
I will legit cry if whiscash gets nerfed, because I just built one right before remix cup, after walking my barbaroach for 2 months. I only got to use it in like 5 battles, so if it becomes irrelevant, I will rage
You struggled finding a way to reasonably nerf Annihilape.. IMO, just remove ice punch. Fighters with rock/ice moves is cheese imo. Rock is a bit more balanced, because you still cover flying, but mostly everything else is already covered by your fighting moves. But ice moves on a fighter has always felt excessive to me, even in mainline games
I would also consider the fact that we’ve always had theme cups for gbl and after a certain period of time they try to introduce to UL format. For example Halloweed cup UL edition and weather cup UL. Maybe we get summer cup UL. Or some other cups later this year that haven’t been seen in the UL yet. Just a thought. Too bad we won’t ever see themed ML cups. That would be crazy!
I want the interlude season back. Players should be ranked on total wins, not how many wins you can string together in a row. Fire needs to be buffed and the mudboys need to be debuffed, that will take care of the steel problem we currently have where either you can do well against steels or you can do well against the rest of the meta, but not both. Currently, only Talonflame and Skeledirge are the only viable fire mon, that’s what needs to happen to steel. Currently, you can run regi, or skarmory, or ferrothorn, or bastiodon. If fire gets buffed, that will take care of the problem. Bug also needs to get buffed. We need a meta where six to eight new mon rise and crap like cres and giratina get put on the shelf to collect dust.
Give Emolga Fly as Acrobatics takes too long and it so very squishy. Give Golbat a flying move for STAB coverage, it is also squishy so it wont be OP. Also Tropius buff is fine as it has a bad typing. Careful though with Air Slash buff to not make Skarmory even more overpowered (steel is very bad offensively, flying would be better).
I agree you cant nerf Counter due to what it effects, but same could be said with Sky Attack and Breaking Swipe. The only thing for sure is Niantic dont test their changes and we the players have to deal with the BS.. But i dont think Angry Ape needs nerfing. It easily gets shut down by any charm or confusion user, mandi, Feraligatr and any Shadow Claw user...but if it must happen then i think you buff Confusion..give it the same EPT as Incinerate and doing so wont exactly destroy or majorly shit the meta
I rather see changes that help counter the strong pokemon so e.g. grass types aren't really there so buff their moves or give pokemon better coverage to help beat those water types like...maybe buff trailblaze to require less energy to use unless that is going overboard (though if they keep scald as is then why not buff trailblaze then?) 🤷♂️ Another thing that irritates me is these cups that come e.g. evolution cup or electric cup we don't have plenty of options to help beat the meta so niantic REALLY need to prioritise giving these pokemon for their cup more help by giving more coverage or buff the moves they got e.g. combusken NEEDED that help in the fighting cup & evolution cup you see what I mean? Peck sucks but its charge moves are decent so far 😂
I think there are more ways to nerf pokemon than move updates. Medicham would have been nerfed because of the presence of annihilape or if they added mimikyu. more pokemon being added or buffed can decrease the strength of top meta pokemon. Look at swampert for example. I wish Psychic nerf was reverted
How the heck do I even get an Annihilape? It says you need to defeat 30 psychic types.. but like.. I've used my Primeape in PVP and I'm certain I've beat psychics. I had it as my buddy while catching psychics.. Does it have to be 30 raids? Cause that sure as hell ain't happening
Its defeat 30 psychic types while it’s your buddy. It doesn’t even have to be the primape that defeats it. Just battle with a friend that’s running 10 cp psychic types and get the defeats that way.
I do think they shouldn’t do much solely for the championship like imagine playing all season to have to change everything up I think isn’t right to do so I’m think only minor buffs and nerfs that don’t effect the meta to harshly
I had a discussion with a buddy the other day; which would be a more impactful nerf across the three GBL metas, counter or dragon breath? We couldn't come to an agreement.
Give breaking swipe 100% debuff again. Even with 100% debuff steelix still gets absolutely walled in this meta -- way to many water and fighting pokemon in GL and UL. Make rayquaza and heliolisk viable again.
I think they should get Scald to 30 or 12 % instead. I dont think they should nerf it to much couss I think its important that it could fight back Scarmory. I we want to nerf Annailape I think they should make nightslash an Icepunch clone with the boost chans so its still is some of those trickyer moves. But as HSH said, it dosent need a nerf IMO.
Why do people always want to nerf the #1 Pokemon? Like I genuinely don't get it. There's always going to be a #1 Pokemon no matter how many times you nerf everything. Annihilape is arguably one of the most honest "best" Pokemon we've had in GL for a long time. It's frail but strong, has a great typing but exploitable weaknesses, good charge moves but not anything absolutely insane etc. Like nothing about it screams overpowered. It's just a very solid Pokemon that's great at what it does. It's also extremely accessible, which can't be said about previously dominating Pokemon such as Registeel, XL Medi/Lickitung, double legacy Walrein, etc. I don' think I can take you seriously if you argue about certain cups being inaccessible yet also say that Annihilape should be nerfed because it's too accessible and strong. That's basically admitting that it's only an issue if it's inaccessible for YOU specifically, and not everyone else.
Prediction: they nerf the thing that everyone is crying about right now... this time it's scald, and then buff something else that everyone will cry about for the entire season. Same as every other season 🤣
Only nerf should be scaled debuff percentage. Fast move damge buffs: Grass, to Nerf water Fire, to nerf grass Ice, to nerf ground/flyers. Fairy, to nerf fighters/dragons. 💯 agreeing here. Its accessibility is really its strong point (non-XL in both GL and UL).
