I'm really looking forward to checking out Literary Treks! Your review feels a bit mixed-you didn’t seem to love it overall, but the way you describe it still makes it sound like a fun read. I’m definitely adding both books to my TBR, especially since The Pandora Principle is such a short read. Your reviews always align with mine, so I’m curious to see what I think of these. Plus, your excitement for the Obo character, the comments here, and the way everything seems to be packed into one book sounds... well, 'fascinating.' 😆🖖🏼
Surprising. This has always been a big favorite of mine. I went into it with no expectations, I just liked Saavik and liked the idea of a book about her. And then I was surprised at how much I loved it. I too did a search for Carolyn Clowes, but in my case it was because I wanted to read more by her, having liked this book so much. Quite disappointed when I realized this was all there was. Knowing that Cox read this one before working on LOST TO ETERNITY is interesting though. That book was already on my radar; now I'll have to bump it up in priority.
Lost to Eternity is the best Trek novel with Saavik in it. The Pandora Principle would have been better as a longer book that could flesh out the various story lines. It should have been one of the old style giant Trek novels. Margaret Wander Bonanno's Unspoken Truth is another Saavik novel that falls short. It just kind of unravels in the second half.
I agree with most of your review of the book and yet for some reason I like the book overall.
These OG series books are fun reads.
