The year before this song (1983) Gabby had written Mr T for Grynner. Mr T was popular and went on to win the road march. The BLP paid Grynner (I think) to do another version of Mr T in their favour and i guess there was a backlash from some fans who felt that Grynner sold out to the BLP. So this song (1984) was a response to that. Some fans felt Grynner let down Gabby who wrote Mr T. I remember when the Nation ran a story on the new song and the new lyrics. Never heard it though
Zocky Great explanation. Thanks. I’d forgotten about that saga. Still, didn’t Gabby eventually become a Bee? So it’s all good. In Barbados, politicians and supporters on opposing sides are often friends and, in some cases, family so sometimes it’s best to leave them to work out their differences without getting involved.
In an interview in 2018 with David Davis aka D2, streamed live on Facebook, Gryner indicated that he was heading home from town one day and a guy attempted to stone him with a rock over the "Mr. T" incident. When he got home, he penned the song and went straight by Gabby to let him hear it. Sir Don who was also by Gabby, heard the chorus and told Gryner that he has a hit on his hands.
I've always absolutely loved that the first and loudest backup vocals on the chorus of this song are Gabby's 🤣🤣🤣
When them 3Gs get together. Gabby Grynner and Grant(Eddie)
They same the begging of the chorus should be played at a wedding "boy wa ya gone and do"
Yes!! Friends through and through clearly!
Grynner is a great legendary performer
