@@DarioCruzII yes this is true but it has a good look... the 50m water resistance wouldn't bother me as i won't ever be going diving the lume could be a lot better
I used to have the original vintage SK, cool watch but it was a pain to wind it by shaking - couldn’t wind it with a crown. Btw, this watch has a cult status in Vietnam 🇻🇳
Blue chapter ring - looks really nice! But I think I'll pass on these Orients - just not my style. Still, thanks for the detailed information! Thanks, Marc!
Appreciate Marc's honesty in this review. Watch looks great on wrist. Suggest adding movement accuracy to review. Nice work in bringing these watches to our attention☘
Honestly, the only thing that's keeping me from getting one is the folded link bracelet and 18mm lugs. If i find a good fitting bracelet ill get the gold dial real fast.
Orient should also re-issue their "date and day" and "date only" dress watches with the new movement. Change it a little so that they won't get into some trouble. With upgraded "multi-link" bracelet (wink, wink) as well.
I got mine in in blue. Really love the watch and the retro look. The bracelet feels flimsy but it’s not bad. I think my bigger issue with the bracelet is the fact that it’s going to pull all my arm hair out lol. Otherwise it’s a great watch.
The blue chapter ring looks great. The violet-dial version of the Orient SK is really striking but the chintzy bracelet is a disappointing deal-killer. Maybe if Strapcode comes out with a suitable replacement . . .
For some strange reason I can size a Seiko folded link bracelet no problem but the Orient ones I struggle with, on the Seiko I can get the little keeper links out but on an Orient they just won't budge. I actually like that watch but I'm not keen on the tapered in 18mm bracelet which leaves you stuck with it rather than the option to swap it for leather.
Visually attractive watches but, that's about it. Orient could have done better with the bracelet and crystal while still keeping it "Retro". I was more impressed with your Seiko wrist shot. Best of all, loved your jab at the Above the bone/Below the bone of the so-called watch placement etiquette police. 😄😅😂🤣
It's amazes me the complaints as I always wear my watch lose were I rides a low as possible. My wrist is 8 inches at its thinnest part right next to the hand so I am always looking for watches that are not to wide as to mess with wrist flexibility while also not looking to small on a big wrist next to an XL hand.
Freakin cool looking watches, I am really into the retro design - especially the 70's design, so much fun.... however not being able to read it in dark places makes it kinda useless to me:S I do not understand why watch manufacturers - except Timex or maybe Casio - do not bother themselves improving the low light visibility of their watches, why not developing the electroluminescence technology further. I hate when a watch - or anything else - loses its functionality under certain circumstances/conditions.
@@joe19912 Tell me what better choices for the money have, but it needed to be not chinese, big brand, to have in-house movement and original design, im waiting for it. For 214$.
I always try and keep an open mind; at that price point I feel it should have at least a 200 meter rating with screw in crown if they went to the trouble with the bezel thingies...nice looking watches though. I think a Seiko is a better value in this case unless you really dig the style. Just my 2 cents..lol
Hope you don't pay the stupid prices for those pieces? I remember back in the day when it was released to the public. It was in the display case at J. J. Newberry Co store in Hollywood, CA. That watch sat their for months because it was overpriced and the design looked dated.
Great vid. Visually attractive and interesting watches. They're obviously trying to stay true to the originals BUT I think they're way over-priced for the quality on offer. Hate those cheap bracelets.
cool watch. love the retro style, and it's not often I see something with a maroon dial that actually appeals to me. anyone have a recommendation for a nicer bracelet that would fit well?
Love the maroon dial and the internal bezel. Dislike the 42mm case size and the cheap folded links. For the money surely they can give us a better bracelet, and if it's a vintage inspired, then give us a vintage size. 38mm would've made this watch a lot more desirable.
I picked one of these up. It's a little expensive at over 200, but I'm not gonna wait for months on end for a price drop just to save 50 bucks. My only major complaint at this price point is the dogshit bracelet. I replaced it with a very solid beads of rice bracelet. Looking great and I love this watch.
You mentioned you just got certified you may want to read up on how to use that bezel because you explained it incorrectly? Before you dive you determine your maximum bottom time and set the bezel for that time that’s why it’s important for the bezel to only rotate in one direction so if it gets bumped you only loose bottom time not gain.
Maybe you can help me.I bought a Xeric Halograph 2 and after i windit and shake it, it seems that the rotor stopped spinning like it is jammed, but the watch is runing perfect. They have a safety mechanism to not overwind? Many thanks!
Good video, very informative; I am actually getting into automatic watches and I put one of these on my Wish List. When I see this video I get the impression of, even when it is rounded , there are some lines that bring the hexagon shape impression, which made me think of an old war tank. No disrespect, just my impression.. I will continue searching your website since I like your channel..
I just bought one off your site (second watch from longisland, previous is the orient defender) I am so excited for it to show up. I was very happy with my orient defender I purchased, I noticed the defender 2 are out and they look pretty sweet. Is the blue... more blue? on the new defenders?
Hey there, i manage to get my hands on a vintage one , and i m planning on changing the crystal, but i can t get the exact diameter for it. Could you please tell me? I d be very grateful.
Hello Marc, I’ve been eyeing several watches on your sight, and I noticed the srpd23 has shot up to retail price...should I be concerned with supply? I was hoping to buy one with a sapphire crystal replacement soon, but the retail price is too high...any news would be appreciated. I want to buy it from you because I trust your services, but the prices are worrying me. Edit: I already purchased a strapcode bracelet from you to prep for this purchase so yeah 😅
I'm guessing that these are intended for asian markets - though with a few tweaks they could do an 80's version that would probably play better in the west.
Seiko owns Orient, so that explains why the watch only has a mineral crystal and a measly 50 meter w/r rating. How does my Orient Mako USA manage to have a 200 meter w/r rating and a sapphire crystal for much less $?
Nice watches. The 5bar rating might put some people off. It shouldn't. These watches are coming from a credible manufacturer and 5 bar should be sufficient for swimming with. Which is what most 20bar watches do anyway. Glad you have your PADI Mark. Now it's time to have your Rolex Sub serviced and gaskets replaced 😁 As a Matter of interest I recently had 2 divers on my bench, both with 30bar water resistant. They both failed the standard 3bar pressure test. Both new and purporting to be of German manufacture but were of obvious Chinese manufacture. So it's really all about quality of manufacture, servicing and regularly changing gaskets and testing, rather than what a watch dial says.
One of the most coolest watches out there. Original design, in-house movement hacking hand winding perfect size.
“Royal oak” that’s all I keep thinking about! Love the dial!
Plastic oak ;)

For the SKX's, do you *have* to remove the crystal to swap the chapter ring? Or can you do it from the back of the case?
Crystal; for the 013, movement side.
