  • In this video Doctor O'Donovan demonstrates how to use a nasal sinus rinse kit at home. A nasal rinse kit (for example Neil Med Sinus Rinse kit, netipot, and other brands) can help if you have sinusitis, a blocked nose or issues with allergies
Nasal irrigation is a safe and easy way to rinse your sinuses. It can help relieve symptoms related to a sinus infection, allergies, a cold or other upper respiratory conditions. Neti pots, rinse bottles and pre-filled containers are all excellent options if you want to try nasal irrigation, but always read the information leaflet within the bottle and be aware of potential side effects. If you are unsure ALWAYS speak to your own doctor before attempting this.

POTENTIAL SIDE EFFECTS INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
    1. Nasal Irritation: Overuse or the use of solutions that are too strong can lead to nasal irritation or discomfort.
    2. Nasal Dryness: Excessive rinsing can strip the nasal passages of their natural protective mucous, leading to dryness.
    3. Nosebleeds
    4. Ear Fullness or Ear Infections
    5. Sinus Infections: If the equipment used for nasal irrigation is not properly sterilized, it could introduce bacteria into the nasal passages, potentially leading to sinus infections.
    6. Water Intoxication: Very rare but possible if large amounts of water are absorbed through the nasal tissues, particularly if using plain tap water without appropriate saline concentration. It's crucial to use distilled, sterile, or previously boiled and cooled water.
    7. Discomfort or Pain.

I had horrendous sinus pressure after a flu. I took some antibiotics and it did nothing for the pressure, nor was there any drainage. I then did the nasal irrigation, using baking soda and salt added to distilled water. By the next morning I felt the pressure easing. It took afew days but finally the severe pressure left.

@@wahyuadityakurniawan3225 I bought a kit that contained packages of salt and baking soda. You don't inject it. You pour it gently over one nodtril while turning your head slightly in the other direction so that the water comes out. Please use lukewarm water only.

I am so happy I found your channel. Just wondering if you can cover a video on nose bleeds. I have used a saline rinse for nose bleed issue. I am not sure what else to do after seeing my GP and a few doctors. I am still having nose bleeds almost every day for over a year. Sometimes I am not even aware there is blood in my nose until I sneeze or breathe too hard. The last time I saw a GP for the issue was about 6 months ago. Just don't feel comfortable going back for the same issue. Other than my nosebleeds I think I am healthy.

Get a second or third opinion from different GPS. You can't put a price on piece of mind and I'd never just rely on the first GP I see anyway unless they solve the problem.
