      I am delighted that you enjoyed it and found it useful. I kind of fancy doing more of this sort of thing. I repair all sorts of thigs around the house

    Peter, that was one of the best repair videos I have seen in a long time. Thank you for being so thorough and checking ALL the bearings. So many times people see one bearing bad and just replace it only to have to go back and take it all apart again and end up having to replace more bearings or what have you.
    Anyway, job well done!

      Thanks for the feedback. It always seems wise to check and change all the moving parts once you have it in pieces

    The plug that you thought was for adjustment is just a plug the Stihl grease tube fits the thread you will find the same plugs where ever there is a bushing on the head and shaft joints. The little lump of plastic is there just to keep crap from getting in to the casing much like the steel plate on the primary chain case behind the clutch of old British bikes.

    On the top of gearbox is a bolt with picture of grease gun cast into case, yiu screw tye stihl grease tube in this to grease it. I believe there is another on the side where swivel is

    If it's of any help, I use 3-in1 heavy duty cleaner degreaser on all my machines and it seems to work very well! Done exactly the same thing with my old long reach!

      Thanks for the feedback. I will give it a go. I think that the trick is to service them from time to time which had not been the case in the past with this machine.

    Hello Peter. What tool did you use to grind out the needle cage bearing, I think it was with a Dremel but would interested in what tool you used and your technique. Thanks

    • @peterkarney6935
      @peterkarney6935  3 года назад

      Yes I used a sort of Dremel clone - I think that it came from Maplin in fact. I used one of the little Tungsten Carbide Rotary Burrs which did het a little knackered in the process.

      Thanks for the kind words and sorry for not responding until now. This was one of my first videos of this type and I am just trying to get to grips with youtube. The part number are description are: Connecting Rod for Stihl HL-KM, HL100, HL95 - 4230 640 6800. Ron smith do have a website: www.ronsmith.co.uk/ but for small parts you have to give them a call.

    Idk if they're the same and idk if you do it in this video but I'll finish this video after supper as I'm here because I'm havin a real problem

      That’s why I’m here too. I was sharpening the blades and ended up with the needle bearings falling out.
      A couple of shots of bourbon so I didn’t feel like I was wasting my time and an hour later, the contraption was put back together.
      Cranked it up….the engine ran great…..but the blades didn’t move.
      WTF! Life is too short to screw around with stuff I don’t know the first thing about - but I’ll be back at it again tomorrow until I fix the damn thing.

    Could you drill out the needle cage bearings ?

    • @peterkarney6935
      @peterkarney6935  3 года назад +2

      For one of them I did start by drilling out the needle cage bearing with an HSS drill but the problem was that the outer part of the ball race remined. I then used a Dremel type drill and Tungsten Carbide Rotary Burrs to cut though the outer cage.
