The best way to explain who you are when playing is too think of your character(you) as a supporting cast in a drama theater show. In between scenes you play your improvised act (unscripted, and loosely leads to the next scene), when it's time to start the heavily scripted scenes. The control is limited so the main casts (Ex: Anduin) would have the central stage without you doing something that breaks the scene

Sadly this is just some videos of different events and places strung together. Someone who played through this can place them, but for someone like you those are often missing the wide context. Maybe i can provide some.
The very first Video was the anouncement trailer of the Mists of Pandaria expansion.
The second one with the Bomb was the first big act in the War between Alliance and Horde that dominates a lot of MoP. The new Horde Warchief Garrosh Hellscream assambled an army and marched on the city Theramore (the home of Jaina Proudmoore, the daughter of the sea) To protect the city the Alliance send a huge army to support the city, but the attack was just a trick. Instead of trying to conquer the city, Garrosh had stolen a magical artifact from the dragons, that he repurposed into the wow equivalent of a nuke. That was the bomb that fell. Jaina herself only survived barely
The third was the ciniematic trailer that you already watched, the two people in that trailer are part of the ship crews that stumbled across this undiscovered land mass.
Then we have the alliance and Horde intro when the player starts the expansion. Starting with the faction leaders learning of the land mass they found and sending a strikeforce ahead. And shortly after the arrival of those strikeforces and their first contact with the natives and the Sha.
The Alliance is of course there to find and safe the young prince Anduin, while the Horde want's conquest. The "big dog" and the dream sequence are parts of the alliance quest to find the Prince.
The last part is once you've actually found the prince, he doesn't want to go with you, he has talked with the natives and learned a lot about this land. He want's to study and protect it.

    • @HannaHsOverInvested

I did kind of feel like I was missing parts of the story, but I also expected that a lot of the story was told while you're playing, so of course I would miss that.

    • @CrazyAjvar
      @CrazyAjvar 3 года назад +4

And Horde doesn't really want conquest either. The person who made this videos shown mostly alliance side, and didn't show horde rescuing native Panderans who were enslaved by Alliance at their base and forced to work for them. Oh, and most of those were cub Panderans. But even in those alliance biased videos you can see them gunning down unarmed surrendering horde soldiers.

    • @Olochgu
      @Olochgu 3 года назад +2

@@CrazyAjvar i mean, Garrosh send Nazgrim there with the explicit goal to prepare for the horde invasion. So conquest is the main objective for the Horde, and if were honest also for the Aliance, tho they say it's to "protect the land from the Horde", they also want to conqer it and its recources.
But yes bot Horde and Alliance are shown doing despicable things after having set up camp on Pandaria.

    • @SampoPaalanen
      @SampoPaalanen 3 года назад

@@Olochgu Well Nazgrim isn't Garrosh, while Garrosh took the villain ball during late Cataclysm and wouldn't let go of it, Nazgrim is different, he's more willing to allow the Pandaria join willingly rather by the threat of death. Garrosh on the other hand was an egotistical racist.
Oh and as for where your character is, you can see the player character in some of those scenes, but for the most part your character is either not visible or is a passive onlooker in the background. You pretty much never can select what is said in these cutscenes, in fact later in-legion you'll end with things like a mage or a priest performing a hard weapon block against a titan (aka massive demigod) in a cutscene even those both these classes cannot perform such actions in regular game play (they can only dodge attacks) and even if they could they're intellect based classes and thus have strength as their dump stat (for example my level 50 mage has little under 550 intellect, but probably only about 20 or so strength) this due being that when an active part of the cutscenes your character class is generally ignored, oh and player characters have no in cutscene Voice Acting.

She teleported out, but a lot of her friends didn't. In pandaria your sent to rescue anduin as an alliance member and he's seeking something to end the war with the horde peacefully. the initial video is a bit of a 'recap' of events for players in that it talks about the events of 'classic' WoW, then the events of the Burning crusade (first expansion), the storyline of Arthas as the Lich King in Wrath of the Lich King (second expansion), and then the 'up to date' with Deathwing and the Cataclysm and the events therein (third expansion) where the narrator (Varian Wrynn) talks about a new land yet to be discovered and what potentially lies in store for 'adventurers' (aka players) once they arrive there etc.
as mentioned in other comments the bomb scene was the first major act of war of the new Horde Warchief Garrosh Hellscream, he stole a magic artifact from the blue dragonflight (the guardians of magic on azeroth) which turned a 'normal' goblin bomb into the equivalent of a nuke, it was this action that decimated Theramore an Alliance coastal port town ruled over by Lady Jaina Proudmoore, it was thanks to Rhonin, (the leader of the Kirin Tor faction at the time, basically the 'Mages' of the world who reside in Dalaran and are a neutral faction in the WoW universe), that Jaina survived as he opened a portal to get her to safety while he stayed behind to keep the portal open and the bomb killed him, this was the catalyst behind Jaina changing from wanting peace with the Horde, to outright zealous hatred of the Horde and thanks to the focusing iris (the magic device used to make the bomb more powerful) she used it to almost raze the Horde capital city to the ground, it took some strong persuasion to get her to back down.
in regards to the 'Vale' and the 'sacred pools' that Anduin talks about, he is referencing a region in the game world called 'the Vale of Eternal Blossoms' where the 'sacred pools' are located which allows the trees to in the vale to bloom eternally (hence the name) and is the most sacred place to the Pandaren people, not to spoil anything too much but these pools and this region of the game play a huge role in the over arching story of the 'Mists of Pandaria' expansion.
lastly, as a player you have little to no agency over cutscenes, unlike in the witcher 3 where you play the game and make certain choices that can have an affect on the outcome of a story arc, in WoW (for the most part) your actions are meaningless to the story as it will play out as the developers want it to regardless, just the way you go about it might be slightly different if you do certain specific quests out of order or skip some quests entirely for example, but ultimately you're hand is held through the story for the most part and you're just there as a vehicle to get it done, this is slowly changing with the more modern expansions but for the most part the storyline is already set in stone and all you do as a player is pick up a quest from an NPC, do the quest, turn in the quest to another NPC and progress the story passively through gameplay and most of the story is told through the actual quest text in game which the vast majority of people rarely if ever read, there's some addons that you can install to make it a more 'cinematic experience' but the people that use them are few and far between, a lot of context for some of these earlier expansions is going to be missing as a result of this so you might need to watch more 'lore' videos or watch some old gameplay videos to get an idea of what's going on in certain circumstances.

"We held the line as death itself..." - Wrath of the Lich King, ruler of the undead starts some shizz that's bad enough that at times people try Being Friends Instead with each other so they can focus on the big bad
"We have endured the breaking of the world..." - Cataclysm, where a big badass dragon broke the whole damn world, changing the overworld map and shaking everything up. Taking down this uberdragonleaderguy required help from the Aspects (the other colors/flights of uberdragonleaderpeoples)

The "sunglasses" markings on King Varian's face are actually scars that he got fighting as basically an enslaved gladiator. Way back when around vanilla WoW time, Varian was kidnapped by a dragon lady (literally) named Onyxia who magically split his body and soul into 2 people, a weak-willed and strong-willed version. The strong-willed half lost his memories, was kidnapped by orcs, and made to fight in Horde gladiatorial arenas because he still remembered his fighting skills. He was such a great fighter that the ones who saw him fight started calling him Lo'Gosh (meaning Ghost Wolf) after a giant ancient wolf god (also called Goldrinn). Later on, during the Cataclysm I think, he basically gets blessed/empowered by Goldrinn so it was an appropriate nickname.

I know I am WAAAY late to the party, and most things have already been said, but since you usually ask for videos to watch instead of long essays, here are two recommendations in regards to the first clips of the bomb being dropped.
You have seen "Daughter of the Sea" before, Jaina Proudmoore. She were the reagent of the coastal city of Theramore and had long been an advocate of peace between the Horde and the Alliance (between Orcs&Co and Humans&Co). Even as she had to step back, resulting in her own father being killed, she still held firm that peace was possible. The dropping of the bomb was what pushed her over the edge and the same devotion to peace that she held before, she now wanted revenge.
A 23min long, way over-detailed and with loads of names, description of the events leading up to the dropping of the bomb, as well as the aftermath. I can say that I'm not the one to cry when reading a book, but at a certain part in that story I sobbed.. Maybe not worth reacting to, but explaining what happened. If you plan on reading the Warcraft book "Tides of War", don't watch this as it basically spoils the whole thing.
    ruclips.net/video/2EfKS4bfosI/видео.html
After you watch that one, and got the more detailed story, you can take a look at a Machinima music video made of the events around the bombing (music might be a bit loud and dunno the source of the music or if Copyrighted).

The bad thing is in most cinematic, they represent the horde as the villain, wanting to destroy all. The previous leader, Thrall, was looking for peace between the alliance and the horde, was honorable and wise.
But after many attempt to bring peace, which most of them have been canceled or refused, mostly by the alliance, he gave his place to his right hand, Garrosh (the brown orc you saw in this "movie") who didn't ask for it. He was more like the military advisor and since he is in command, he decide that peace with the alliance is not possible and it's better to destroy it to have the horde be in peace.
Basically since Thrall gave away is position of leader, both side don't listen to each other and just go to war.
I stop playing when Thrall left. First because my favorite character died and second because what happened to the horde.

The "shiny hula hoop" is a shield that prevents damage, it's an in-game priest ability using the power of holy Light. Mind control is a priest ability using Shadow which is the opposite/adversary of Light but priests can use both powers, kind of like a balance. The glowing gold wings in the first dream vision is another in-game Light ability but it's used by paladins. Anduin was originally a priest with an unusually strong connection to the Light (remember that GIGANTIC healing/resurrecting/barrier bubble he called down in Battle for Azeroth trailer?) and wasn't much of a fighter, but when he was in maybe his mid-teens he had a combat trainer, a female dwarf guard, that he became good friends with and later lost in an accident. After that, he took weapons training more seriously and became at least a decent fighter, not great but ok, and in the current expansion, Shadowlands, it seems he's become more of a paladin.

It's kinda hard to tell where the two guys from the cinematic trailer come into play at. You can find the spot where they fought in the game, and get an achievement for tipping the thing that the one broke off upright, but it's nowhere near where the armies actually fight in the game. It's weird, and I don't think they're even given names.

I didn't see anyone explain this so I'll do my best. Essentially player characters are a weird "adventurer/Heroes/Champions of faction" mix, in more story oriented expansions like MoP you serve your faction leader and follow their instructions to set up on Pandaria and befriend and ally locals.
You're completely right that these are between gameplay for the most part and while the cutscenes happen your character just kinda stands there (don't know if you noticed it but we saw a player character during the video)

  • @minkorabadzhiyski35
    @minkorabadzhiyski35 3 года назад +1

Who you are in the game? Well up until 2-3 years ago every character that you make in the game is pretty much a nobody. You play as a random adventurer that is sometimes hired to do a job or is drafted by his faction to help out in something. As you play, you progress and play thru the story. Everything happens around you and you chose if you actually want to participate. Mists of Pandaria, or MoP for short, takes place a few years after you start your adventure. You as a player had already proven yourself to the characters in the game, you have done stuff for them a lot of times, if you actually played through the entire content, predating MoP you have literally saved the entire world more than once. So the story in MoP starts how (Anduin) the son of the kind (Varia) of the Alliance goes missing in uncharted lands. So the king summons you to his aid to find his son. You go there, to find him, but the Horde and Alliance are at an open war (that was sparked by the bombing of Theremore, that was the bomb thing in the video, the Horde did that to the Alliance). So as a player, if you play for the horde you get an entirely different storyline. All that was shown here is that the Horde also goes on Pandaria and assaults an Alliance ship, that resolute in the Horde air ship crashing down. I don't wanna spoil what happens next on the Horde side since I assume it will be in the video. As far as the clips themselves, so they are part of your main story. You see them as you progress. So yes you play a bit watch this and play again. In World of Warcraft, the players have no interaction with the storyline. You do not play as the main guy, you are a random adventurer. The Vale thing and the pools, they are zones in Pandaria. If you want to look them up: wowwiki-archive.fandom.com/wiki/Mists_of_Pandaria_maps There a few graphic novels (comics) for World of Warcraft. They are fast to read, free and you can learn a lot about the actual main characters in the game. You can look them up here: readcomiconline.to/Comic/World-of-Warcraft --P.S.: sorry for the spelling I went to a public school. Blame society.

I think you'll be interested to know that the place where the bomb dropped was Jaina's city Theramore, which you also saw the blasted-out ruins of once before in the animated Warbringers: Jaina short. I should also say that there was like a non-aggression pact between the last leader of the Horde had with Jaina that Garrosh (the one you see in this video) broke, leading up to bombing the city.
Jaina had spent her whole life looking for non-violent and diplomatic solutions to wars, and had even considered some of the Horde leaders friends and allies, and this betrayal led to increased tensions for years, leading up to the Fourth War between the Alliance and Horde, now finally over.

They are cut scenes with a lot of gameplay and dialogue in between. A lot of the context for the game is in quest text, which is why 99% of the player base has no idea what's going on.
WoW as very few choices and none of them matter for the over arching storyline. Your character is more of a random soldier who is just witnessing these events. Later expansions like BFA, you become more of the central hero and they actually have some cut scenes with your character in them.
Also as for the bomb being dropped. That was Theramore, which is an alliance port outpost a little south of the Horde's capital city (Orgimmar.) Jaina, who I believe you've seen some stuff for, was the leader of Theramore, and the bombing of it is a big part of her later hatred and distrust of the Horde. (The bomb was essentially a nuke.)
The shiny hoola-hoop is just an in game spell like a magic shield.

So I couldn't find anything that had already stated this, but the place that is shown at 4:17 is none other than the City of Theramore mere moments before its destruction. It is the same city that is shown at the beginning of the cinematic short titled 'Warbringers: Jaina' (The Daughter of the Sea) in which we would see Jaina's return to the Ruins of Theramore after she visited her homeland of Kul Tiras which is where she would hear the song that she sung!

If you like therapy sessions, you would probably enjoy the Cinema Therapy channel.
4:36 - that scene was the bombing of Theramore Isle, where Jaina Proudmoore was the leader. This sets up her character arc for the next couple of expansions. TL;DR The horde dropped a magic nuke on her house so she swore vengeance.
9:18 - Both sides know way more about each other than is realistic because video games.
12:52 - The game uses cutscenes to explain bits of the story a lot. Your character is usually in the background of these scenes since canonically, you are a major linchpin in the armies of your side.
14:02 - As far as I'm aware, they're just for the cinematic, not actual characters in game.
16:13 - That's prince Anduin; he's pretty much a holy man. Boy. He's pretty young here.
    17:43 - It's a holy force field.
The Pools of Reflection (I think that's the name, it's been a while) and the Vale of Eternal Blossoms are sacred places within Pandaria. You'll see more about them as you go through videos, haha.

  • @johnj4471
    @johnj4471 3 года назад

Historically you were just more of a side person in a lot of it or a part of a group of adventurers and aren't necessarily represented in the cut scenes. In more recent expansions you play a more pivotal role ever since the next expansion after this as you're the Garrison Commander of your outpost in Draenor, then you're the class order leader for your class(priest, warlock, warrior, etc) which means you're leading the non player characters that have similar skills to yourself, and then you become the speaker of the Horde/Alliance and wielder of the heart of Azeroth in BfA. Now you're the "Maw Walker" in Shadowlands meaning that you can travel back and forth between the supposedly inescapable Maw(hell) and the normal afterlife areas.
The Vale they keep mentioning is the Vale of Eternal Blossoms, an area in Pandaria where all the water flows and has other secrets.
Anduin(the prince) was using a lot of priest powers in game. When the Hozen(monkeys) confronted him he used Holy Fire and then Psychic Scream which made them run in fear. When he approached the camp he had Power Word: Shield which is basically a protective bubble that absorbs some damage. Priests in WoW can use dark or light magic.

Other people have answered the other questions perfectly so I won't retread that territorry, but I'll chime in about your response about the player agency during cutscenes. As a player in World of Warcraft, your character is essentially a nameless member of the alliance or horde. Your character is more of a passive observer in the events of the world and the role of active participant is given to various NPCs that help to push the story forward. Your character may technically have a role in current events, but as far as the in-universe history is concerned, it is characters like Thrall, Jaina, Anduin, Varian etc who get the credit.
It's handled like this because since WoW is an MMO, you're sharing the game world with literally millions of other players at the same time, so because of that it's hard to reconcile your character's choices against the potential for those other players to make different choices, unlike single player RPGs like in The Witcher or Mass Effect where the world quite literally revolves around your choices. Other, newer MMOs have solved that conundrum in various ways but WoW being one of the older ones couldn't come up with as elegant of a solution. That said, the story problem is an issue that pretty much every MMO faces. Each one has tried to solve it in their own way, but they all have their own pros and cons.
Either way, I'm super happy to see you reacting to more WoW stuff! Can't wait to see more! It would also be great to get your thoughts on Final Fantasy 14, especially considering they recently announced their latest expansion!
Have a great sunday lovely person!

Right, so the context is this. I'll try to make it as non-confusing as possible.
The Horde and the Alliance arrive on Pandaria, and Pandaria is a peaceful place that contains something called the Sha. The Sha is essentially negative emotions manifested into a scary monster. The Horde and the Alliance essentially race to prepare to face off the other faction, because they're both on opposite sides of the same region. The primary objective for the Alliance, is to find Prince Anduin (The White Pawn), while the Horde is essentially just trying to establish a foothold in Pandaria, in order to better fight the Alliance.
The panda in the big hat is named Taran-Zhu (he's the one that talks to the Horde and Alliance members about the Sha.) And he goes to BOTH of the Alliance and Horde to explain to them that they shouldn't bring war into Pandaria (which they do.)
So as the player on the Alliance side, you go around trying to find Anduin, as well as help out the Pandaren people in the area to prove that you're an ally to them. This eventually ends up in your befriending a race of fish people called the Jinyu, who join the Alliance side of the conflict.
As the Horde player, you are trying to root out Alliance members, as well as help out the Pandaren people in the area to prove that you're an ally to them (yes, you essentially try to suck up to them on both factions.) You also end up befriending a race of monkey people (like the Monkey King) called the Hozen, who join the Horde side of the conflict.
It's not well established in the cutscenes, but the Pandaren are also about to rebuild a big statue of Yu'lon (The big green, long dragon spirit you saw in the Emperor videos). The point of the statue is for Yu'lon to kind of be reborn through it when she grows weak and old. And they're sort of caught in between this big battle between the Horde and the Alliance that ends up in disaster.
I hope that this wasn't too big of a mouthful, though if you didn't get something, let me know and I can explain more.

The Vale of Eternal Blossoms is what they're talking about. It's a place in the centre of the continent, where the Burdens of Shaohao animated series ends. It has magical waters, and the trees there havn't stopped blossoming in the 10 000 years since.
As to who YOU are: because of the nature of the game, you the player don't get to make the kind of decisions you would in a single-player game. There is only a single story to each quest, YOU can only choose to NOT do a quest. There are EXCEPTIONS in the 2 most recent expansions.
You are a Champion of the Horde or the Alliance, sometimes that means you're like a random hired hand picking up bird eggs, or firewood, or skulls for random errands. Sometimes you're more like a soldier on one side of the faction divide, sometimes we manage to unite against a real threat.
There are NEUTRAL places where we can all gather together and aren't allowed to attack each other, united in purpose, and players can choose whether or not they want to have War Mode ON or OFF on the open wider world and attack and be attacked or not. Although the war is OFFICIALLY over, Player vs. Player (PVP) has been part of the game for a long time.
There's also that fact that the current story Shadowlands is beginning to explain the game-thing where we always come back to life, and that still happens to us while inside the afterlife.

Well, I know this is gonna be a bit of an obvious one, but if you really want to learn as much as possible about this universe, and the stories within it, I would suggest either getting into the game yourself, or checking out some comprehensive lore videos out there. I can definitely say that the Dutch youtuber Nobbel is a prime option for the lore, he's been doing stuff like that for a while, and he's got a really smooth, soothing style of narrating (IMO).
Another suggestion that I would make, outside of checking out the separate event novels, like those that you mentioned in this video, are the Chronicles books. As far as I know, there are 3 of those at the moment, and they give an overview of the most important events in Warcraft lore. Even though I can't speak for the impressions of someone, who isn't heavily involved with the universe (I got my hands on those books when my experience with the game was about 7-8 years), I think they give a very nice introduction to the universe (a better one than the movie did, I reckon), there are some gorgeous illustrations all over the place, and a personal favourite of mine, as a lore nerd - an alignment chart for the various forces at work in the Warcraft universe.
And as for the perspective in game - you and the other players are basically the catalysts, that allow the main story characters (such as Jaina (mage, you might remember her as the Daughter of the Sea) and Varian (High King of the Alliance) for the Alliance, and Garrosh (the angsty Warchief of the Horde) and Thrall (the narrator for the first trailer in your video, former Warchief of the Horde)) to go about their business. You deal with most of the work out in the world, from the menial to highly impactful, and there are quite a few occasions when you work with members of the opposite faction, when your goals align. It's quite hard for me to properly explain it, again - if you are really interested in it, then all I can say is that there is no substitute for personal experience. Just gotta be careful, because it's easy to lose yourself in that universe (speaking from experience). :D
Finally, just wanted to mention that I really enjoyed watching your reaction to the Warhammer faction video, and would really like to see more of that, if you'll choose to keep exploring that particular universe!

  • @faolon9343
    @faolon9343 3 года назад

IIRC, all of the Mists of Pandaria cutscenes are other people's flashbacks or otherwise outside the perspective of the player character. So the PC doesn't appear in any of them.
One of the more contentious things about WoW is that the player is never "the chosen one". We're always sidelined to be basically the grunts that do the heavy lifting while the "main" characters appear at the end and deal the finishing blow. The main characters being those like Anduin and "Eyebrows".
Some people like that fact that there aren't a million chosen ones running around, as having everyone be the chosen one breaks their immersion. Others feel that it makes one feel less connected to the story since you're not really an important part of it, no matter how much work you do. Personally, I'm of the latter group. The fact that there are a million "chosen ones" running around doesn't bother me or break my immersion. The fact that, no matter how much work my character(s) put in, they'll never be more than a supporting character irks me. Thus while I enjoy the combat and gameplay of WoW, I much prefer FFXIV when it comes to the story.

Did anyone explain the bomb at the beginning? Been playing the game since beta with my wife and even I can't say I understand it totally. However, I'm pretty sure that's what started the war for Pandaria in the first place. The Horde was led by more even handed Warchiefs in the past but then Garrosh became Warchief. He's brutal, blood thirsty and, super racist. I think his first, real "executive" order was to bomb Theramore Isle. It's a popular meeting ground for The Alliance so like thousands of people died. x_x

If Audible recommended the War of the Ancient's trilogy as the starting point for WoW audio books they didn't lie to you as such. Chronologically these are the earliest events on Azeroth that is available in audiobook form.
The problem from your perspective is that they don't really touch much on World of Warcraft expect making you recognize who Tyrande, Malfurion and Illidan is. (And Queen Azshara.)
The events of those books do not become relevant until the Burning Crusade for Illidan (the first expansion to the base/classic WoW game), and then makes a jump over Wrath of the Lich King and becomes relevant again in the Cataclysm expansion when Deathwing returns.
Mists of Pandaria is the expansion following that, and this is where you currently are in the story.
The scenes you are watching here are the cutscenes you get at key story moments in the game. Without doing the quests ingame you loose a bit of context for them, but it gives the general progress of the story.
In the lead-up to Mists of Pandaria but after Cataclysm ends the Horde, on Warchief Garrosh's (brown orc who want to "paint Pandaria red) orders, attacked Theramore, culminating in dropping a mana-bomb on the city. The city was ruled by Lady Jaina Proudmoore, one of the foremost proponents for peace between the factions up until that point.
It isn't very important to the things you see after that and in Pandaria, not until the mid to late stages of the Mists of Pandaria expansion story.
The pre-rendered cinematic with the ships battling, sinking and then the orc, human McChin and Chen Stormstout fighting is the first Horde/Alliance forces that encounters Pandaria.
Anduin Wrynn is on one of those ships.
Once reports of that battle reaches the Horde and Alliance, the player characters are sent with a follow-up force to deal with things.
Characters that are currently important for where you are in the story/video:
Prince Anduin Wrynn, heir to the throne of Stormwind.
Admiral Taylor of the Alliance Navy. Leader of the force that was escorting Anduin.
General Nazgrim of the Horde. Leader of the Horde forces sent to Pandaria to claim it and its resources for the Horde. (Orc in black/red armour.)
(A subplot here is that the Horde has trouble finding the resources they need to house and feed everyone, because the lands most of them live in are dry and arid.)
Lorewalker Cho, a pandaren historian who comes into contact with the Horde and Alliance and serves as a guide to the player character. (Dream wine guy.)
Taran Zhu, leader of the Shado Pan monks. The Shado Pan are the closest thing Pandaria has to a standing army.
Chen Stormstout, a pandaren wanderer and highly skilled monk. Brew aficionado. (Also helped found the current home of the Horde a decade or so ago during his wanderings.)
    Lili Stormstout, Chen's niece/protégé.
    The Horde/Alliance player character.
The Sha - spirits representing negative emotions. The how and why of them will be explored as they story goes on. In general, they are bad news.
Edit: Information that isn't relevant for where things are now, but is important for things to come:
    - Theramore is a city founded after the third war (long story) by a combination of Kul Tirans (naval nation who provided most of the Alliance fleet in the second war), a few high elves, members of the Gilnean Volunteer Brigade and refugees from Lordareon (once the largest human kingdowm and leader of the Alliance, it was devastated by the undead in the third war).
    - Because it has people from many nations, it is a part of the alliance, but acts as an independent city state led by Lady Jaina Proudmoore.
She's from the ruling Kul Tiras family, but her status as an archmage of the Kirin Tor (a faction-neutral nation of mages) and her long advocacy for peace between the Horde and Alliance has her currently acting as an independent ruler, with the strongest ties to the Kirin Tor. rather than the nation of her birth.
Because Theramore is on the east coast of the continent of Kalimdor, she is isolated from most of the rest of the alliance with only a vulnerable trade route to the night elves on the western side of Kalimdor. The city is however within striking distance Durotar and Orgrimmar. The former is the land claimed by the orcs after the third war (before World of Warcraft starts) and Orgrimmar is the capital of the Horde.
Garrosh wants to claim resources for the Horde to help his people, and weaken the alliance. Attacking Theramore lets him do both.
Most of the city was evacuated before the Horde attacked, but quite a few of the alliance military leadership was in the city when the bomb dropped.
To limit the blast of the bomb, Jaina was going to draw the magic of it to her, but the leader of the Kirin Tor, Rhonin (officially in Theramore for a state visit/meeting between archmages, unofficially to help Theramore against the Horde), knocks Jaina through a portal and draws the magic to himself instead, killing him.
The backwash of magic is still strong enough to bleach all of Jaina's hair except for one lock completely white and here eyes glowed with magical energy for weeks afterwards.
Also worth noting is that Rhonin's wife Vereesa Windrunner was scouting outside the city. She's the leader of the Silver Covenant, a group of high elves living among the Kirin Tor in their city, Dalaran.
Jaina looses a dear friend in Rhonin, her apprentice Kinndy, her bodyguard and a fair number of friends that either refused to leave the city or were among the soldiers who were still there when the bomb dropped.
Mad with grief she uses a magical artifact to summon an enormous tidal wave to drown Orgrimmar and everyone in it. She is talked down from this by her lover at the time, but though her rage is gone her grief is still very much present when the Mists of Pandaria expansion launches.
As it does, she is voted in as the leader of the Kirin Tor, and despite misgivings she decides to maintain the faction neutrality of Dalaran, the Kirin Tor's (flying) city state.
Vereesa is not happy about this. She still wants Horde blood. (And yes, Vereesa is the younger sister to Sylvanas Windrunner.)

To think there are people who think Pandas are the worst thing to happen to wow. Pandas start as a neutral faction they have to choose horde or alliance after their intro quest. You can choose to not pick a faction but pretty much cant play the actual game if you do so. Honestly the worst part about it to me is that they could have used this chance to have the pandas actually form a true neutral faction where all races could join.
They recently add faction logos to our character select screen..... because we dont know our characters factions? Seems like the only reason for this would be intention to allow players to pic the faction of their race...A neutral faction could allow you to experience both sides of the story without having to make multiple characters. Or they could have brought an end to the faction conflict since every warcraft game leads to alliance and horde working together to defeat a greater threat

Meaning Orgimmar was for Orcs the other races, Goblins, Trolls, Blood Elves, Tauren and the Forsaken had become second class citizens in the Horde. Therefore they had to set up camp outside or in the slums inside Orgimmar. I am not ashamed to say I was happy, no ecstatic, when the end of Garrosh came.

I wish the WoW community responded to the first impressions of Pandaria & the Pandaren the way you have. Those are the feelings it should've evoked. Instead people were super cynical, calling it a Kung Fu Panda rip off, too silly, Mulan with furries etc. Partially upset with the pacifist message in their World of WARcraft. The race of pandaren made an appearance in the original Warcraft games. Far predating Cho from Kungfu panda. And I'm pretty sure the story is one of the deepest they've done so far. Alas the hivemind had already made up its mind.
It is worth noting, considering "Be Friends Instead", that when you create a Pandaren character you start off neutral and choose whether you follow the Alliance or Horde. I loved that, but that could have also threatened the delicacy of some people's faction pride.

Hello, you ask if the playable character could speak and unfortunatly your character doesn't talk or interact in cinematics in general but your actions/quest/mission completed are taken into account and they triger cinematic like the ones on the movies as "olochgu" said in his comments. IF you want some details too put all warcraft lore in perspective, here is a timeline (sorry for my english) :
    - years -10 000 the demons open the first portal to conquer the planet BUT they were crush by pointy's ears immortal elve ( the well of eternity was a sacred place for the elve but was destroyed.... i think you know that story)
-year 0 after healing and planning for centuries the demon are back again ,coming from an other portal and this time they have a bunch of "slave" call "orcs" attach to their armies. BUT this time a coalition of all the humans kingdoms is created to kick the demons again (sidenotes; the orcs are consider as beast at the end of the war by the humans and kept as slaves to rebuild but [spoilers alert] revolt-escape-create the horde) ( world of warcraft classic)
    - year 5 to 10 some people/adventurer try to discover more informations about the portal and demons so they decide to cross the demon's portal to see the other side ( sidenote: HUGEEEE part of warcraft lore take place outside of the planet azeroth but it's complicated...) ( first extension : world of warcraft the burning crusade )
-year 20 The demons have a new plan who go in two phase: FIRST, they get their ass kick of azeroth 2 times so azeroth people are strong so demons should create chaos and civil war before invading again. SECONDS once they are busy fighting each other the demons will start they invasion
-year 25 The demons create a Virus/Plague that resurect dead people into monster /zombie/skeleton warriors to create chaos and civil war int the humans kingdoms ( weird to write that in 2021) it works and soon the entire continent is at war for survival. demons start step 2 of their plan and invade BUT it backfire when the lich king and his army of zombie go rogue and disobey the demons order. Then elf and orc, humans, troll, dwarf ( every racies i nthe lore ) go for a free for all on the continent to stop the demons invasions ( with the demons archimonde destruction at mont hyjal)
-year 26 everyone ,horde and alliance decide to becomes friends/allies and they seal the alliance by launching a campaign of anilihation against the zombie army and the lich kings ( spoiler it went wrong very fast and things escalated quickly at the warthgate cinematic [best cinematic of my childhood]) (2nd extension : world of warcraft the lich king)
-year 27, the war is over a big chapter of wow history is clos but two continent as been ravaged by war and the rest of the planet is in poor shape. At this point a all new story line begins with good gods , bad gods ,old gods, some stargate sg1 story and a massive big powerfull dragons who as gone crazy because of the bad gods and need to be kill ASAP ( 3rd extension :world of warcraft cataclysm)
-year 30: horde and alliance have a truce after the dragons death , peace and prosperity are coming, the leader of the horde Thrall a strong , calm, respected druid orc retire from his post as "warchief" to build a family and have a peacefull life , he give the title/mantle of "warchief" to his berserker, angry, blood-thrysty,commander of the army friend Garaosh who immediatly declare war to the alliance and discover by chance/mistake a new continent call Pandaria (4th extension : mist of pandaria)
sorry again for my bad english

    What is it?

Your character doesn't talk in these cinematics, you're usually more just an observer during them while other NPCs talk and do things. Some times it cuts your character out entirely other times you can see your character in the scene with the talking NPCs.
This is no doubt a bit confusing since there is information you get inbetween the cutscenes as well, and it has been jumping back and forth between the Alliance cutscenes and the Horde's.
Though at this point when Anduin says he is going to search for the Vale the Player Character doesn't know much about it either. Though the Vale is basically the heart of Pandaria.

Oh fun WoW again. I do like your other videos but I never cared for Team Fortress so I'm not as engaged as I'm with stuff I know. Funny enough my boyfriend found you through the Team Fortress videos cause he likes it a lot. And last week he started telling me about this ''youtuber he found called Hannah'' so when he finally was finished i was able to reply with...yes i know her i watch her every weekend. xD

I think what you watched was a kind of a machinima. Like a fan made extended cut using in-game stuff, not just the cinematics.

I hope this "movie" doesn't discourage you from watching more WoW stuff. Even as far as in-game scenes are concerned, this one has a lot of out of context, low quality, or even simply uninteresting stuff included in it. There's a lot of cool things in the WoW world though.
