I appreciate your time Miss Lynda in teaching lots of your listeners no matter what age where they live or what stage of life children or not that we can all become more frugal. I have spent this winter doing exactly this practice by saving my other half for my area homeless. I take meals once a week and this week I have made little jam jars full of coffee, coffee cake in mini loaf pans, and boiled eggs to share! All of us can improve each day a little small thing.

I used to buy mom the oatmeal from Sams Club in the 5-pound boxes, I tried for years and she said it was too much, then one day at the grocery store I pointed out how much she was spending for one 1 pound container and we started buying it at Sams, it comes in 2 bags and she dumped it into cereal keepers and it worked out great. Growing up mom always portioned out our meals and when you were done that was it, but before bed, we would have a slice of bread and butter or peanut butter and crackers with a juice glass of milk, we never went to bed hungry. Look at the serving sizes on the packages, no wonder most Americans are fat, most of us can cut our meals in half and we would be better off. Thank You for another great video.

New subscriber here and I appreciate your wisdom! 23 years ago my life changed dramatically from being a married homemaker with 2 young children to having my husband tell me after 20 years of marriage he no longer wanted to stay married. I was now on my own with a 5 year old and 12 year old to raise, but how? I had to return to school so that I could financially support my children. BUT during that year, we had so little food that I only got to eat two meals each week otherwise my kids wouldn’t have enough food. I drank plenty water to tide my over and somehow I got through that year living to tell others about it! I was so embarrassed to let anyone know that I was literally starving, but I learned how to ration food and not waste it! Times were very good for most others, but in my house we had just enough money to keep the basics going and food on the table. We all will benefit from hard times such as these today and appreciate better time when they come again. Thank you for your channel!

Oh that’s a tough one… I can’t imagine being in that position with no one to help. I guess I would suggest the opposite of them reaching out to someone is that we all who are able to buy things, go to food banks and/or check up on our friends should be doing that. In that case I would say it needs to be the reverse and we who are capable should be looking out for our fellow neighbor indoor friends to see how we can be helping them.

I can't even begin to tell you how difficult its been to manage this... anyway, I started using the smaller plates and it seemed to work for awhile... now though, not as much. He will find food, eat while I'm asleep, etc...I actually had to buy a garbage disposal to keep him from eating old food out of the trash can... I still use the smaller plates tho..

I’m going to be doing that this year as well as the Rubbermaid bins again. Can try same with carrot seed. But germinate in trash plastic containers.
Lettuce heads, can sometimes restart . Thin slice off root, rusty part where it has been cut and the oxy has gotten to it. Then take off 80% of your salad green. Put in a temporary container, damp soil. Very diluted fert.

We use to eat a lot of cheap meals during hard times. I could list several. Some we still eat on a regular basis even though we can afford more things now. Back then we were a family of 3 living on $150 for 2 weeks and that included any household items or personal care items. My husband was to proud to ask for or let me ask for any help of any kind so I
made it stretch. We ate bologna sandwiches almost daily. I hate them now but if it came to it I would eat them again. My current fear with shortages is for my daughter she is autistic and has severe texture issues with food. She will starve. We have tried to starve her out to get her to eat different things. Nope she broke me. I gave in after 48 hours. Almost everything she eats is cheese related or like a potato product. The only thing I can stockpile that she will eat is mac and cheese. If anyone has any suggestions on shelf stable cheese please let me know. I looked into the freeze dried cheese but it's so expensive.
I'm sure most of us know cheap meals but maybe we could get a thread going so everyone list their favorites and basic instructions so we can compare and get ideas. I'm from Arkansas so all I know is country cooking.

I told him he didn’t have to eat anything he made but I wanted him to at least learn how to cook. Through that after two years of a class he is now trying things that I am shocked at. We are certainly not a entrepreneur a Food… But he is definitely changed his pallet. I would love to see you thread get started on cheap meals during hard times.

I started with her mashed potatoes and added a mashed cauliflower the following month I tried a mashed carrot. She likes mac and cheese, I have to cook noodles extra soft, I tried a different shaped noodle, and then another time switched out the cheese for a homemade white sauce, another time a butter sauce

I have picked up liquid Velveeta from DG in the foil packets, you don't need to use the whole packet, just squeeze a little over the pasta and mix, Creameet is .88 a box at County Market if you have their card, you don't need to buy the Mac and Cheese together, buy it separately, plus I always boiled some extra elbow mac because a packet was to much cheese for the amount of pasta they have in the box, I have saved a lot of money that way plus I don't have to use milk and butter. Does she like cheese whiz? You can freeze cheese. It is difficult to handle people with texture sensitivity, I am one of those people, there is just food I cannot put in my mouth, like cooked oatmeal, I gag every time and I'm almost 60 years old.

Valetta cheese in the big rectangle box is shelf stable until you open it and refrigerate. Make sure she will like it before you stock up. It's good on crackers and grilled cheese sandwich.

@@32Donna Do you know if once it's opened, does it freeze well? Those are pretty large blocks of cheese and I would break them up into 1 pound pieces and freeze if that is the case.
