- I absolutely love this game! Fighting Layer is one of the funniest and extremely unique fighting games out there. I didn't think it would be this fun to play! Tell me in the comments what you guys thought about it.

Also Justin, the shark can't be used in the arcade, he's an exclusive boss. You must've gotten a very cracked arcade machine lol
Mamecheats kinda screwed up the time release code and unlocked the bonus round bosses as well
@@kitestar I think the animals are in fact time released as well, but only for vs mode for fun. So yeah it's a bit of both - the time release code definitely should not enable them in arcade too (but I am so glad it does).
Akira are honestly the most underrated fighting game developers. The SFEX games don’t get enough credit for how influential they ended up being and fun they are
SFEX Ken still looks better than SFV Ken lol
They also made Fighting EX Layer for PS4 and Switch if you want to check that out. It's basically just Street Fighter EX but without the Street Fighter characters and with one Fatal Fury character.

Arika makes some underrated fighting game gems, and this looks to be one of them. Being able to cheese the boss by playing as a literal shark is hilarious!
I would say this looks like their best game. Their games were always arcade-y, but this looks like pure arcade fun.

there is also a secret boss, the knight you fought in firsti bonus. You face him if you finish the game without loosing any rounds. You also get to fight eagle or tiger
Shin Knight....Attacks don't mean jack to him but he can be stunned and thrown
And have to keep super charge if i remember right

l manafed to fight him a couple if times, never beat him
@@Namidagr You couldn't beat him? I tried the first time.. and i didn't time it right in the quick time event and I got impaled! And more than half health GONE and you're stunned on top of that
I miss this era of fighting games where you could find goofy characters like a literal shark in the game or Meat in MK4 there's just something charming about these inclusions
Hornet from Fighting Vipers may have been the weirdest one of all.

I think the original Fighting Layer is one of Akira Nishitani's best games right next to Street Fighter II
Love the aesthetic of this game, hope to see more of these character make it to Fighting EX Layer. Both games are SUPER underrated

Best channel for this genre hands down. Justin is so much fun and professional at the same time, and every video is a discovery of some awesome and interesting thing. Really a work of passion and dedication!
Because of the combination of personality, experience, skill level and fg field. Justin exceptionally maxed out at those factors, over the fgc yt scene.
Like, many people are stuck to a single fg or a single company. Or at best they play a different fg that's new for the publicity. And when it's not a new game (super rare), their playing is embarassing... Like Max, an old schooler, being totally lost at anything in SNK that he didnt see in CvS2 and MOTW, his only references of SNK.
But Justin can do well and figure out things well at anything. Sure he is specialized in Capcom, but his knowledge isnt lacking in the Neogeo library, that are games as old as Capcom fgs.

This game is a masterpiece and is one of the best fighting games I've ever seen . From The fun mechanics to the amazing voice actor to the styish characters to the godlike ost this game is incredible and deserves more support. Hopefully it'll get the support it needs very soon that the game can come to modern consoles and have rollback net code. I hope arika decides to add these characters to a new fel installment.
Arika has some issues, back then and now, but they have a very good artistic/visual and musical sense. Even people who dont like the games couldnt deny that quality.
That was also proven by the public reaction to FEXL news, even if the game didnt catch on the current fg scene. People were very happy about seeing the chars again in modern graphics.
Also even if the games can be called simplistic in their delivery, like they were made still with an early 90s mindset, but it's also undeniable how Arika managed to completely optimize "arcade fg fun" in all those games.

We had this game at a local arcade many years ago. It is fun and I still fire it up on MAME every so often
First 3D fighting game I fell in love with is Tekken 2. If I would've played this back then, this game would've definitely had my heart.
I think there’s a Sega Fighting game on the Saturn(?) where you can play as the rally car from Daytona USA. You should give that a shot too. Pretty sure the game has a mix of Fighting Vipers and Virtua Fighter too.

I had the rare chance to play an actual Fighting Layer cabinet back in '99 when I was in high school. There was a video game store that not only sold games, but had a small row of arcade cabinets to play. The lineup would change every few months, and the owner must have had an inside source, because he wouldn't just get the popular games, but even obscure games or games that hadn't been advertised yet, like Rival Schools and Martial Masters. I used to love playing as Hong and George. When I got the chance to play the ROM on MAME years later, I hadn't lost my touch at all.
My biggest gripe with Fighting EX Layer was that it didn't feature any of the Fighting Layer characters outside of Blair and Allen. That pissed me off.

Shark is cool but we gotta give credit to how batshit insane (ly cool) the final boss is. The fact that he has a counter that just literally steals any character's move is crazy. It's not just normals, he can steal shoryukens from characters. Also the fact that his super is a Stroheim reference!
I mean, the second Stroheim reference taken by Nishitani then (creator of this game and also SF2). Guile's hair is a reference too.
Tekken 4 yoshi has that.
Edit: his flash (1+4) is usually a fast parry, but in Tekken 4 it's called soul stealer and if you parry a move it steal a move from the character
I laughed way too hard at 7:48. Nothing prepared me for this character's moveset.

It will be great to see more old non mainstream 3d fgs (no VF, TK, etc). In 3d gameplay or not... SF EX, Bloody Roar, Fatal Fury Wild Ambition, Xmen Mutant Academy 2, etc.

Man this game is such a joy to watch the animations looks so good and smear effects that they add to the characters moves make it look look so smooth. I really wish they Fighting EX Layer looked as smooth as this.
Fighting a shark underwater using fireballs is one of the most epic gaming moments ever n at the end it looked so hungry it ate itslef but its caused when a character has too many polygons for the game creation engine to calculate making it collapse 🦈👍🏽
The music is very chill and upbeat for a fighting game. Even more than SFEX or the Capcom vs. stuffs.
I love the soundtrack to this game! Arika was putting out the best music for this and the EX series
The animal sub-bosses aren't supposed to be selectable, that's why weird stuff happened at the end.

A remake or remaster of SFEX with all the characters from the 3 games of the franchise + these chars. Take my money.
It won't happen since Capcom doesn't want Street Fighter to be part of the Fighting Layer universe anymore.
I remember another fighting game where you fight a bull. Not sure what fighting game that was but I believe it was a NeoGeo fighting game. SNK had some weird game where you fight other things instead of another fighter for example in Samurai Shodown 6 you could fight as a wolf, a monkey or a dog. In Fighter's Megamix you could fight as a pawn tree or that one vehicle from Daytona USA.

The game was release so late at the time that consoles move on to more powerful hardware, it's really unnecessary for Namco to port this to console at that time since they don't want to overshadow Tekken 3.

I still play this in zinc, best 3D street fighter and I really like the character design. SF should copy the Armored Knight and turned it to Mechanical Zangief as a bonus stage

Almost forgot to mention: if you want to beat Vold, you have to grapple more in the 2nd round, so he doesn't switch places with you. He can't swap off a grapple.

I would love to see Gundam Wing Shin Kido Senki on SNES. Epyon, the boss, is soo cheap. It's a really fun gundam game. The story mode plays like SF2 where the AI gets progressively harder.

I have enough reasons to believe that the original Fighting Layer is **THE** single most underrated fighting game ever.
So much so that even when the company behind it got ressurrected, and decided to call their new game "Fighting EX Layer", they arbitrary opted to not include *a single* character or element originated from from the previous one, besides a few music tracks - making the new game essentially a "Street Fighter EX without Street Fighter", and not much more than that (when it _could_ quite easily be)...

This is one game that SHOULD get a physical release of some sort with updated graphics and put out or even just have the original as an arcade classic on PSN and Xbox hell even steam. This was a surprise game I played 10 years ago searching for new 3D fighters on emulator and I came across this gem. This is by far one of the most unique and enjoyable fighters I ever played and have yet to play another fighter like it since. Yes I have played fighting layer EX and that game was too much like SF EX.
