It's a good cover your butt way to go to have a fair backup system I believe as time rolls on relying on the grid is a thing of the past plus you can supplement power bills by using it in parts of the house all year around. Thanks for stopping by Jessica and we will catch up soon.

Great work mate. As long as the output of the solar system exceeds the input (running current) power, this should run fine.

That's it I've had this back up now for 5 years now and it works a treat. It will run all of the house lighting and the fridge 24/7 365 with bags of head room and in a black out situation the lot hot water tv internet what ever.... very handy stuff to both cut down on power bills and got my butt covered when ever the power is out... A must have as the grid is very old and is in need of so much maintenance

Very nice, Would like to run more on solar but the cost of equipment doesn't make it a viable solution for me, Hopefully solar panel costs will reduce as time goes on. Thanks for sharing Cheers

Slick set up R.K. You have positioned yourself brilliantly for independant off grid situations .I'm betting you have a decent gas powered generator too. Curious how many Amp/Hours of capacity does the battery bank have ? Also ,great thumbnail man you look jacked in that one , the gym is paying off nicely .

My humble setup is now 5 years old and still performing as good as the day it was turned on. I don't have a generator to support the system one would be nice but to date I don't know if it would get used. The system through a transfer switch runs100% of the house lightning and the fridge the ignition for the hot water as that's instant mains gas internet and what ever load up to 100 amps. On average the system for all of that doesn't work to hard. Even the house lights the are all led bulbs running say 8 of them is only drawing 56 watts the fridge on startup pulls around 800 watts for around 40 seconds then drops down to 145 watts till it cuts out.In summer by say 11.00am the batteries are completely full from the night before and in winter this extends to around 2.00pm . It a good thing to have set up and it off sets the power bills. Completely independent from the grid and easy to set up too. I can add more solar to the controller and have as much in batteries as I want, but what I have is enough if the power goes down to comfortably get by.

Hey Roland. I was in someones house one time. They had a solar panel guy crawl up in his attic and the guy fell thru their living room ceiling LOL. We had to stream clean their furniture. There was a big hole in the ceiling. Obviously the customer didnt buy their solar panels.

My question would be can the solar charging the batteries keep the unit running consistantly (batteries charged) over the course of a normal day of usage?

    • @rolandkeith5322
      @rolandkeith5322  5 месяцев назад +1

The short answer is yes, but it depends on what and how you have a setup, in the way of a system.
My system is set up to run all of the house lights and the fridge 24/7 365 days of the year or as a backup power unit to supplement my power usage.
In the case of a power outage I can run the fridge and all lighting for as long as I want to months to years in fact and if I want to or I need to I can also switch on the hot water ignition and other circuits in the house as well so as to run TV or charge phones or run computers. But normally I run the system for the two main things.
Running in normal mode, that is my backup is powering the house fridge and all lighting in summer by around 11:00am the system has fully charged the batteries from the use through the night and the system then idles for the rest of the day as the sun is powering these two things. In winter here it is by around 2:00pm the system gets fully charged and then idles until the afternoon sun set.
On my mains house switch board where my fuses are I can switch between what is on grid and what is off grid with a main crossover switch between the solar and the house. ( look up a crossover switch )
My set up is a 1.5kw solar and 1kw storage or batteries… Running 7 LED house lights in total are only say just on 60 watts and my fridge after is starts runs on 145 watts so these two items in total don’t pull that much power. 145 + 60 = 205 Watts solar charge back power 1,500 watts and 1,000 watts in batteries.
During the day when the fridge kicks in it pull 145 watts but the solar controller chargers back just over what is used and in this case the solar controller will when the batteries are full put back in say 160 to 170 watts.
My way of thinking was to set up a system to drive the lights and fridge and anything over that is a bonus, but even with this small setup it handles these two and much more and the setup is around five years old and never faulted form the day I turned it on.
There is a lot on solar on RUclips but one has to have a slight understanding about it to know that what information you are watching on solar was a system that a person set up for the task as many do by mistake.
I also have 1,000 watt wind generator that contributes to the batteries as well so on windy cold night whereby there is no sun I am still able to make good power and charge up through the night as well.
Having a mix of wind and solar as either a backup or as a supplement is a very good thing to have.
