  • It's time for my annual year in review video! 2023 was another great year for the channel, and I'm happy to reflect on it in this video. While tasting a bottle I've diligently aged for several months, I'll discuss my three favorite and least favorite brews of the year, discuss all the cool stuff I was able to do in 2023 and let you in on what I have planned for 2024.

    What a great 2023 for The Apartment Brewer. Even though your Berliner Weisse was your least favorite beer, it was my most favorite beer name! As a former high school German language student, our teacher used JFK’s comments as a salient warning for incorrect German grammar. So when I heard your beer name, I literally laughed out loud. Thanks for the LOLs.

    Love the idea of pitching more videos to beginners. Ive just gotten into brewing and I like the additional information.
    I'd love to see a video how how to create a hop schedule. Even with a smash beer, I'd like to know to break up the hops (like, more IBUs at the start for bittering, or more of the total IBUs after the 30 minute mark)
    Love the content though!

    To late for your dry January but a few recipes for hop water might be an idea. It was pleasure watching you another year. I’m glad you mentioned smart ref, I’m just wondering how accurate it is knowing that standard refractometers are basically trash and you can’t check gravity when alcohol present in beer. Is smart ref working in another way than standard ones?

    • @shanehardingham2153
      @shanehardingham2153 6 месяцев назад

      The SmartRef is accurate and easy to use. I find mine is always within 1 gravity point of my basic hydrometer. The question is which one is actually correct? The SmartRef app saves your Original Gravity and uses a formula to convert physical readings during fermentation to an alcohol corrected Specific Gravity.

    I am not placing blame on anyone but myself and possibly the yeast but I brewed your smask ipa with azzecca and kviek. It was horrible. 😅 I used the kviek to do a kolsch and it was horrible. I had high hopes. It did mellow and became drinkable but I'll probably never use kviek yeast again.Omega Kolsch 2 has went from grain to glass in less than 7 days consistently. If I want a quick beer, that will be my new kviek. 😅

    I don’t like sour beers. Ill tried a few throughout the year and by different brewery’s. They were flawless but they weren’t my cup of tea. I gave them all 5 stars on untapped because the fact they were spot on with flavor and description. Just because I don’t like something don’t mean there is anything wrong with it.

    Happy New Year - very much looking forwards to fresh boozy content. An Englis cask ale is a beautiful thing, but please do put a sparkler on your beer engine. Beer poured/served in the north of the UK is creamy, foamy and delicious (we use a sparkler on the swan-neck spout); whereas beer poured in the south of England is delicious, but wholly lacking in that unctuous creamy head. Oh, and the makers of Guiness cheat: they use nitrogen to get that famous head, as I'm sure you're aware? Cheers

    Great year-end coverage, and Congratulations on being a dad (insanely life-changing)!
    Colab with Simple Home Brew - Working with Pierre is always rewarding as he is a very down-to-earth and relatable guy, plus the person who inspired me to start RUclips.
    Past Brews - As for your beer brews throughout the year. Try to bottle off, about 4 per keg (using a counter-pressure bottle filler to avoid that oxidation). I do this more for taste testing of beers I brew again a year to as many as 4 or 5 years later, and many times, I prefer my older versions.
    Pinter - I liked this video and the product concept, as it is a great way to get future home brewers into the hobby, as you said, dipping their toes in. I also love seeing any company so passionate about bringing any form of homebrewing to the general public through simplicity or automation. I'm getting ready to cover a similar product like the Picobrew crossed with a BeerMKR with a lot of flexibility.
    Previous Brews - A few previous brews that were your least favorite sounded more amazing to me than your favorites. (I really like Saisons and fruit beers in between my IPA and darker beers.)
    Enjoy the little one, as it is an amazing time in life! My two boys are my world.

      Thanks for the kind words! I usually counterpressure fill my bottles, but maybe there is some more fine tuning I need to do. Glad you enjoyed the video!
