I used to use eBay, but they burned me for an incident with another individual and closed my account. It was a minor dispute and basically a misunderstanding between the two parties. I'd been online with them for years and had built up my score to a reasonable level, and they just decided to completely shut my account down. Their completely unbalanced and unjustified response appalled me as I've won court battles in the American justice system, so I understood the principles of arbitration, due process, etc. I immediately decided then that I was done using their service. eBay can go F itself. They're beyond ignorantly stupid. They closed my account down for one misunderstanding between parties. I haven't used their service for at least 10 years now.

I've only been a member since 2006 and yes, it is ridiculous and pathetic that they side with scammers as much as they do..... If nothing else happens for the rest of this year, Ebay will have cost me $273.86..... and if not for couriers taking photos when dropping off shipments at wrong addresses, that amount would be 3 times higher... Because they side most often with courier claims also..... USPS is by far the most often used delivery used by me and by sellers I buy from several hundred times a year, yet by FAR USPS more problematic as in courier fraud where orders will pop up as delivered and were not... Yet Ebay will side with USPS and no less than 7 times this year alone, an item Ebay had already closed my case in favor of USPS ended up being delivered 3-4 weeks later.... and several others that never came at all.... USPS doesn't take photos of delivery sites and I don't see how they could really, but for every year I have been with Ebay, I have maintained 100% feedback on every one of those years but one...... and it was 99.8% due to a skirmish with a scammer in 2016..... anyway... gotta take the good with the bad I guess... still more good, but it gets aggravating.

I got accused of BEING the scammer. I purchased a spoiler for my 1987 Monte Carlo, listed as OEM, 3 day shipping. The seller, a big time ebayer in car parts, just never shipped it. I called him, and emailed him, and he assured me he'd get on it. Then he just stopped taking my calls. 6 weeks after the auction ended I filed a claim. Two days after I got my refund it arrived on my doorstep. They guy started blowing up my phone with messages. I offered to return the item, but at HIS expense, which he refused. Turns out it was a decently recast spoiler, but NOT OEM. Plus the mounting screws were in the wrong spot. 4 months later I relisted it on ebay, getting $60 out of it. Used auto parts are the worst for scams- I have been e baying for 20+ years and for car stuff I check the box that says "seller does not accept returns" I learned my lesson on a motor years ago- I sold a fully rebuilt motor to a guy and he claimed it was defective and sent it back. But what he sent was his old motor, figuring E-Bay would give him a refund based on proof of shipment. But I had included a lot of pictures in the add and one of them showed the engine number stamped in the block which did not match the number on the block he returned. I totally understand your hesitation, but i found a balancing between cost of goods vs shipping. Ive been burned with items where the scammer thinks you will not pay for return shipping. So my formula that has worked for me is 80 / 20 . If my item is selling for 500 i wont use any flat rate shipping of more then 100. So in other words, if i need to list a item where i believe it will cost 150 for this 500 item, then list it as "local pick up only". If the buyer, before the sale, asks about shipping then i will accommodate, sometimes BUT i have them pay shipping OUTSIDE ebay. This gives me control over refunding shipping or not. This tactic slows sales but i haven't been burned.

And the buyer said it didn't work so i had to refund it. It came back smelling light burnt wires. Snap on went through it and the coded dates on the internal parts didnt match each other. EBAY is bullshit they keep changing thier policies all the time, i came on in 2005 and i live in canada and bought all my model cars from the US and shipping was good back then it cost me 10 bucks now they only want too ship priority at 30 - 40 bucks and i also have to pay the exchange rate on top of that so i just plain stopped using EBAY , im on Disability and cant afford anything at those shipping rates. AS to your situation being a 10 year member and the buyer being a 0 ebay should have sided with you because with a 0 rating you could just use the site to scam lots of people and i bet this isnt his first time ripping someone off and we use too be able too leave a negative feedback but i guess apperntly not now that alone is BS. sorry chris that just plain sucks.☹

I have been selling on Ebay since the absolute beginning of Ebay. Sold many $,SSS,$$$.00 there. You are spot on. We are not small guys on there but have no more clout than a guy selling Bick lighters. We have had to accept losses to scammers and write them off which makes me madder than hell! Their customer service has been destroyed in the last few years (never was great) and they seem to go through trends where the buyer is always right. At this point it appears they really just want to be a distributor for cheap Chinese knock offs. We have heavily invested in our website due to Ebay, Amazon, and Walmart nonsense.

I had the exact same thing happen to me, but luckily it was only on something cheap, like $25 or so. Since then, whenever something sells, I check the buyer’s feedback before doing anything. If they have no feedback, or if anything doesn’t seem right, I simply cancel the transaction, refund them, and claim that I wasn’t able to find the item, and then after a couple weeks, I relist it. I have done this twice since then. Much better to walk away and still have the part to sell later!

They give me my money and also to keep the buyer happy they let the buyer keep what they paid as well. Now isn't that some $hit. I feel your pain man. It has me pulling my damn hair out sometimes. I call every ebay buyer now. Make sure they read the listing. "ok, do you in fact drive a vehicle this part fits" "ok did you see this tire is 5 years old" "You saw this is just the harness, not the whole lighting kit, right?" The thing is, you get a feel for how this sale's gonna go, and if you don't wanna be married to this customer, now's your chance to talk them out of it. Most customers are flattered that you thought to reach out, and I've gotten additional sales from doing this.. "oh hey, do you have this as well?" Someone gives off a vibe, politely decline the order, and get them to request cancellation "hey, man, you sound like you're pretty particular about this- I don't think you're gonna like this one"... I've used that before, a buncha times. Also, don't ever list anything on ebay that you can't afford to lose. I can't say this enough- Ebay does not have your back, and they will sit back and let a determined scammer straight jack your shit.
