Not sure why but in dramas whenever a girl disguises up as a boy she will most of the time automatically become more playful, ignorant, a troublemaker, and even act spoiled. In this drama, her character when she grew up doesn't even match a tenth of her past character... she not only lost her mother but is in the palace that she knew is not a safe place... seems to be those dramas where she won't change until she gets betrayed right in the face. Everything else besides the her character is good, so I will give it a try up to episode 5.
How did the main girl grow up to be so clueless? She's too trusting and doesn't even doubt anything for a second before executing things. (sigh) I was really hoping for a smart and calculated main girl though.

that's ancient China (or ancient history in general) for you. where men ruled, wrote the laws and implemented them. they structured culture, morals and traditions to suit themselves, their goals and their desires. females were not considered their equals and were viewed based on the appearance/countenance and sexual dispositions. they lived to please the men and were discarded when their worth was deemed invaluable by the men.
Why so much makeup on her face and eyes if she is suppose to be disguised as a boy! I'm surprised to see a seamstress have so much authority, she is one evil hearted vindictive woman . She plays her part well.
I also hate how contradictory the original plan was. Why keep her in the palace but raise her so innocent, instead of having her be this way from being raised elsewhere and not knowing about everything going on in the palace. Why not tell her about the evil apprentice so she could know not to blow her cover.
The writer gave the wrong characteristic to the lead F, her mom died due to her skill and she, the daughter is still not careful with her own behaving;realistically it's not possible.
