It is interesting like back in K1 days they had no idea how calf kicks are effective. So they were just chopping thighs.. 10-15 low kicks on the quadriceps and nothing was happening. Now they throw 5 hard calf kicks right below the knee and the fighter already has problems moving properly.. :) So exciting to watch fighting evolution in real time..
Aren't calf kicks more of a mma technique (the lower on the leg the harder to catch)? In kickboxing (not this match tho) low kicks are blocked more often, aiming for the calf seems like a potential way to get injured. Interested in your thought on this!

Because it is not kick to the muscle, but to the nerves that are exposed in that area.. That's why they can't even control their foot after couple of really hard calf kicks.. If K1 guys had this knowledge. They would use this type of low kick all the time trust me.. Because not just due to that damage it does, but also it is much easier to kick that low calf kick, than regular low kick to the thigh..
