Hey man, my epic pealed up also. I was so made after having it 2 weeks. Snap on said it wasn't covered due to heavy truck shop, I said take the toolbox back i don't want it. Snap on finally said that they would replace it once and only once I said nope take the toolbox back. They do not scuff the surface before coating the top, and mine had covering from paper thin to finger nail no consistency. I got my rep to pay for it to get linex coated 1/4 inch and it is soooo much better
That's shocking they even wanted to debate the replacement. I thought their life time guarantee covered their boxes. What's the point in paying 10 times what their competitors charge if the life time guarantee doesn't mean shit.
Yes they told me it was because of the ""chemicals" such as brake clean. So I pulled the catalog out and first two words were chemical resistant. So I told them take the toolbox im not paying this much to be shafted right off the bat i will go matco. Then there tones changed
Had the same issue with the older style bed liner top on my master series box. The warrantied it and sent me the new style. Not the days out of the box the top is pealing off . I told my snap on man to try and get me a stainless steel top this time I was done with bed liner tops.
The company makes the tools / toolbox. The dealer representative makes the warranty. Great hear you say that your dealer offered to assist on the changeover.
Snap Snap-on hears a tip for you. Before you coat the stainless steel top have the tops sandblasted . This will give the bed liner something to grab on to. ps send me a 3 bay KLM with new sandblasted bed liner top will test it out at no cost to you.
i was hoping to see how the top was actually mounted to the box itself, i have a similar box and one side is tight the other has loosened off and makes noise. i dont feel any fasteners holding it down
When I first ordered my epic in combat green I watched your videos to try and hold me over. It’s been a year since I’ve had mine and maybe into about 6 months in my top did the same thing! They replaced it under warranty and I got the new top with the LED light in it. Fingered crossed this one lasts
Nice box man! A bit of ingenuity to get it apart, without actually disassembling the whole thing! The anchor plates on the roof of the hutch are for the bolts to the optional overhead cabinet. More $ if you wanna play! I also have the newer bedliner power top on my KTL1023. Cool that your rep just did what he did. Some out there aren't as nice. Guess if you spend the cash with them, are a valued customer, they'll bend over backwards to keep a their customers happy. Nicely done! Good video!
My did the same thing and even started chipping, my rep has never heard of them doing that but I told him to just look at it. They don’t scuff it from factory and the coating is super thin. My rep got it warranted but if it does it again I’m going to stainless because their new bed liner tops are so thin and cheap
I have a '98 Silverado with 200k miles on it. The LineX spray in bed liner was added on the day it left the dealership. Every time it rains, the bed holds water when it is in my driveway, since I always back in and the driveway is slanted quite a bit since my house has been shored up. This truck is a work truck, and has been used quite often, and it spent the first two years in So Cal, 18 years ub the Bullhead, Arizona 118 degree average heat, and now 2 years in the Louisiana swamp environment. Not one scratch or peel, and on top of the extreme weather, I use and abuse the bed, I haul scrap iron, car parts, spilled batteries/oil/brake fluid/paint/paint thinner/etc and nothing had damaged the liner. That looks like a bad job from the factory and they didn't prep the surface properly before the product was applied.
Just got mine delivered today. The bed liner top came melted from something sat on top of it. The paint on my 84” epiq came with bubbling in the paint on several of the drawers. Gonna tell them to take it back and I’m gonna get a different brand.
Had to do that 3 times on my krl triple bank with a hutch, for that same issue. So far snap on has stood behind thier product. Never had chemicals spilled either. This last time it took a year to get it and that's with me living in Kenosha where thier headquarters is at. It's definitely a pain in the ass.
Thanks for the heads up on the top ur experience made may day as I just upgraded my 54 master to a 84 epiq I like t b at we could customize the handles I got mine in red as I'm in Chicago & love my Bulls
I think if I were to ever get a snap on Epiq, which I plan on doing, I plan on getting the Stainless steel top. I like the look better, and unless you have a garage roof leak onto your toolbox they're pretty resilient too. My toolbox is a Snap on classic with a Hutch and top hutch with a stainless top, given to me for my graduation present because my dad didn't have a garage to put it in anymore. He got my toolbox from Tim Schneider in Botkins at one of his tool sales too. Lol, that was his Snap on dealer for years.
I’ve have this on my 68” epiq that I got in October / November last year. I was the first in the area (Jacksonville at the time) to have it. It actually makes a huge difference. The shop I’m at now back home in the Cincy area has a big led light above my box so It’s not as noticeable. Now to add the top and lockers.
Same thing has happened to my box. Just like yours same area started small then extended across the front. But getting warrantyed out so just waiting now
Seeing the bubbling on this top gives me an idea of how Snap-On made the mistake of sending me one to replace my basic rubber liner that had bubbled up .
I have the same problem with my Epiq. This is the most expensive tool box I’ve bought, and the worst quality I’ve ever owned. I didn’t order it with the Line X top, I ordered stainless, but I’m stuck with it. The hutch was bent outward so far it wouldn’t sit on the roll cab, and my locker door was cut unevenly so it looks crooked. I also ordered it completely blacked out and the wheels came chrome and the emblems are chrome. The only thing Epiq about it is that it’s an Epiq fail!!! Hope everyone else had better luck. I’ll never buy another Snap On box.
Great job. Hope mine doesn’t bubble but now I know how to do it. Noticed you have some bins on your work station. Where did you get those? Is that snapon? If so can you post part number for it.
How did you mount your monitor on the hutch? What did you use to accomplish it? I have a 74" Snap-On master series w/ hutch, planning on doing that set up to increase my productivity.
Very cheap like lol.... two screws on the back of the tv with about 3 rounds of mechanics wire loosely run around them, making it kinda like a painting to hang. Then two screws in the dots on the hutch with washers.... hang tv from those🤷♂️
@@RustbeltMechanic Would that be the big dots or small dots on the hutch to place the screws on? Also would you prefer a specific gauge of mechanics wire? Just a suggestion, if possible it would be cool for viewers like myself to make a quick how to vid on that monitor setup.
Wow I didn’t realize the lighted top gave off that much light I’m looking at getting a new box and will definitely be putting that option on it. How come you didn’t have captain Ron helping you with the swap?
I would have cut a six inch strip off the front just past the bubble and called it a day. I would just put some other material in its place. Even something more comfortable for my arms to rest on.
Bro get you some sticky backs and tywraps when you go back to put all your cables(wiring) you’ll be able to straight all that mess up even though you can’t see it ... !
Jealous of the lighted top it figures a couple months after I ordered my 84 inch Sapphire blue / titanium epiq rollcab last year it became available if I knew I would've waited to order
It’s an expensive investment. It all depends on if you have space to grow out instead of up. If so get the nice top and you can always add more box left to right AND keep the work surface.
Rustbelt Mechanic yah I have room to go out on both sides. I work on snow groomers in the summer services and what ever needs to be done on them to get them ready for winter. We have C-15 an C10 cat motors in them. C15 r in the big groomers
Working on a year now trying to get mine taken care of, snapon dropping the ball on me, this is after sending back 4 mr big boxes cause they were all fucked up construction wise…..
I don't think it was chemicals from your forearms that did the damage but heat and friction from your forearms rubbing up and down the surface as it looks pretty tacky. The surface either needs to smoother of harder to reduce the friction and heat slowly breaking the adhesive off. Pretty poor design though from snap on. Shocked they also wanted to argue about replacing it.
Dude it's a snap on tool box. I'd be pissed if that shit peeled up like that if anything automotive related chemicals wise got on it. I figured that was heavy duty spray coated like actual rhino lining not glued to it.
That has NOTHING to do with putting your arms there. That's a manufacturers defect. The surface the bed liner was applied to was either not clean, had some releasing agent on it or wasn't prepped properly.
Sh#t it's a toolbox bed liner top. The ideal was to work on it with out damaging your box. You should be able to tear down brake calibers on it allday with no issues. It's sad that tool boxes are getting prettier but less durable in a way. I'm not saying beat your box but this shouldn't of happened. Yes they warrantied it but you shouldn't of HAD TO. Freaking insane
@@RustbeltMechanic that does sound better and more durable. I was under the impression that a top liner was made to convert your toolbox to a work bench without damaging the box. Also to prolong the life of the box. Maybe I was mislead but I've seen guys mount vices and anything else that would fit with little issues. Here you come with a little brake fluid residue and oil on your arm and some how ruins it. I bet that top wasn't cheap either

The holes in the top of the hutch are to mount overhead lockers.

Seems like this is a very common problem with their bedliner tops. I know I will not be getting one of those. Just stick with the old stainless top.
The company makes the tools / toolbox. The dealer representative makes the warranty. Great hear you say that your dealer offered to assist on the changeover.
Love the lighted top. I have the same one on my cranberry blackout 84 epiq and love the light for the lower drawers.

That light is a beast
One trick to prevent dropping the fastners is put a small dab of grease in the socket.Works everytime if you don't have the magnetic sockets
Or transmission assembly lube
Same thing has happened to my box. Just like yours same area started small then extended across the front. But getting warrantyed out so just waiting now
I've said that from the day I saw those sticker lined tops, there not going to last. So glad I have the older top lineX design. Diggin the light tho.
Beautiful tool box bro, good job, keep it hustling 💎💎

Nice to see you were able to put to good use those ridiculously priced chrome swivel sockets
You lucky bastard... lol
Love the light feature and good video... Stay safe👍
That sucks man! I remember when you got that thing and you were so stoked! Bummer!
I have the same box, just gloss black. Hate moving it around, disconnecting wires etc.
Have the led top on my 68 epiq been using it everyday all day light on for about a year. Love it
Oh and rustbelt I beat the shit out of mine daily
That’s crazy. I don’t know why they changed the Bedliner top to this new version. My older Epiq has had no issues.

i wish the light temperature of the bed liner top matched the light bar on the inside of the tool box. that my only complaint about my setup
I just got my Masters XL hutch and said the same thing to myself.
Same thing happened to my top. My rep replaced it right away.
Be prepared to replace it again I'm on my second rino lined top and its peeling as well.
That’s a badass tool box

Did it last so far? How long did it take before the first one started bubbling?

I feel like every time I watch one of your videos my wallet screams at me. Because now I need that top
I feel you there...I didn’t even know what I was missing out on!
Super sick! What an upgrade!

😂🥺
My stainless top with power on my 84" Epiq had the power outlet fail and had to replace the top. Didn't have the benefit of a forklift. PITA for sure
Book time on that is .4hr. whats the problem?
I would have cut a six inch strip off the front just past the bubble and called it a day.
I would just put some other material in its place. Even something more comfortable for my arms to rest on.
Really like that thin blue line flag up there....nice
i just bought a 28 inch tv to do my computer setup like yours, in my new hutch

What wrench holders are those?

That is a nice box
How do you like that Snap-on fan?
It’s not too bad. Doesn’t move an awful lot of air
