This was a very good movie and so great to be closed captioned for those of us who have a hearing problem. I wish more were available to us, especially the worthwhile pics of this era. Such wonderful stories and acting. Thank you!
This is a great 'psychopath' movie. Anne Baxter is great as the manipulative psychopath, you can really see how it works. They are everywhere in our society, now. Allowed to fill the highest positions in all the world's business activities. Hell-of-world.
I love to hear Liebestraum . Oh my goodness this movie had me from the very beginning like oh my goodness. One person can start a whole lot of confusion.
I heard it and the captions confirmed it: "Would you mind terribly if I asked Hilda to fumigate in here?' The title could have easily been "The Guest From Hell."
it takes to tangle, any decent husband would never bring another woman into the home and knowing his wife doesn't want her there, if my hubby did that to me he would be divorced.
Evelyn's mind was bad, but Doug carried himself like the rooster in the hen house. He was too attentive and too inappropriate towards the women in the house.
Anne Baxter basically reprised this role when she played the manipulative and conniving Eve Harrington a few years later in the Academy Award Winning film "All About Eve" starring the incomparable Bette Davis. But in this picture, the writers got 'inside the head' of a true psychotic narcissist, as Anne's character reads from and writes her twisted thoughts in her diary. Her behavior is then a logical manifestation of her evil intent. This movie very delicately classifies her as 'unstable.'. A more accurate description might be: dangerous.
Funny you say that, when looked at from a sociopathic angle Gone with the Wind's Scarlet Ohara is a text book case. Just thought I'd throw that out there for next time you view it.
yes, narcissistic in Scarlett's case ...interesting script for "gone with the wind" but the acting , i thought, was a parade of ham...i.love intelligent comments like yours, thank you :)
l suppose Ralph Bellamy was too rugged looking to qualify as a Hollywood handsome leading man, but he sure could act. And the lovely Ruth Warrick went on to have long career in daytime TV, starring in, I believe, All my Children. l apologize ahead of time if I'm mistaken about that: l'm afraid I never watched soaps.
This is a disturbing movie all around! Delusional Dan stupidly brings a deranged psychotic woman into his relatives home for a visit and leaves her there to wreck their lives. After she does her dirty deal on them at least the couple understand that she is very sick and take it upon themselves to admit her to a sanitarium paying her expenses no less. But, in the end the aunt feeds Evelyn's phobia and pushes her mentally to suicide to escape her fear. What a horrible thing to do!
wow I know its a movie i just wonder if families were really this loving and respectful to one another.its so beautiful

Excellent movie it was like an Alfred Hitchcock or at Edgar Allan Poe movie with such suspense.

Nice! I've never heard of this, quite the gem, on this rainy evening. Thank you!
A very clever and insidious aunt Martha. A very good movie and to think this could all be accomplished without a single vulgarity.
Thanks for uploading this movie and with subtitles. Love Anne Baxter.
Thank you for sharing this gem
Ann Baxter was so great in All About Eve so it I loved watching her in this. Thank you! So great to find these little gems on RUclips!
The narcissists do seem to succeed, don't they? There ought to be at least one class in school on the red flags-- might save some lives.
Thoroughly enjoyed that - thank you

What a fantastic Channel you have created! Thank you so much for your generosity and great taste!
I heard it and the captions confirmed it: "Would you mind terribly if I asked Hilda to fumigate in here?' The title could have easily been "The Guest From Hell."
This is a great movie especially towards the end....OMGEE!!!! Wait for it!!!
Thank you very much from the text. I don´t speak much English, but I understand better written text. I like this movie. Thanks.

Interesting - not to far away from a good Dickens script anyway, causing a lot of tears, solitude voices and thunderstorms in the minds....thank you.
I CAN SAY ANN BAXTER IS PLAYING THIS PART TO THE T !! SHE WAS A GREAT ACTRESS IN HER DAY.I ALWAYS LIKED HER MOVIES
Baxter is an excellent actress -- however, she seems to portray the same type of disturbed character in most of her films.
You go Aunt Martha great movie thanks for posting
Lovely little. The sets remind me very much of a theatre production. Cosy and cardboard like. Just loved watching it. Thank you for the upload.
Excellent-Thank you!
TFS Aunt Martha at the end is priceless 💀😭😂💀😭😂💀😂😂
I dont have a hearing problem but I love the captions for some reason?
It's like seeing the action unfold while you are reading a book :)
Agree,,,I think when you have them you concentrate more on the acting and the actor.
good old movies . its a nice change of pace . ty for sharing this .
What a great actress Ann Baxter was, I think that she was able to face Bette Davis in All about eve because she was so good
Thanks so much excellent movie!!!
Evelyn's mind was bad, but Doug carried himself like the rooster in the hen house. He was too attentive and too inappropriate towards the women in the house.
Anne Baxter is deliciously manipulating, evil, victim and lastly sweet. Great movie!
I've never liked Ann Baxter, but who better to play the crazy, scheming antagonist? Loved the ending!

She played those roles really well.
A young Anne Baxter. Ralph Bellamy Nice little film
this reminds me of "Leave Her to Heaven".
This was a year before but yes.
She just turned back into a bird and she flew away...
excellent portrayal of a psychopath in the mix...thank you so much for sharing

The husband was the psychopath, his wife's fear got the better of her.
Thing is they can come off as normal. Anne Baxter was beautiful.
This was a pretty good movie!
Very intriguing movie!
Ruth Warrick All My children.
Beautiful sets . I could live there !
I would wish it would have been so easy to get rid of my ex psychopath ex
@5:21, the wicked witch, Margaret Hamilton.
strange how the captioned films actually have better sound! WTF
Hilda is the wicked witch from the wizard of Oz!!
Tabitha Stowe, you are referring to the legendary Margaret Hamilton.
Margaret Hamilton.
Thank you for movies
Wonderful movie ... Thank You
He's mean, he's a drunk, and he's stupid as a brick. Why on earth does his wife come back to him? She should've run and kept on running.
Oh, and he earns bupkis. He is a real prize, boy howdy. I don't get it. What's the big attraction to this doofus?
why didn't anyone notice her strange behavior and the new strife in the household!!lol that guest was a PEST.
great movie!!!
This women was so scandalous! OMG!! Thanks 4 the ovie

Is it me or has Baxter been type cast as the stereotype of the manipulative female? Was this after her oscar btw?
thank you,l like it
Is the viewer to infer that she drowned in the ocean?

so great. thx
chilling!
I think the actor playing Douglas is trying to be Jimmy Stewart.
That's Ralph Belamy. He didn't need to try to be like Jimmy Stewart. He had a similarly affable, warm personality. He is just being himself here.
Good movie, but the ending seemed way over the top.
❤❤❤❤
Given how stupid the family is in this nonsense, I was rooting for the crazy girl.
i would have preferred it if Evelyn got away with her abuse and bullshit than the tacked on ending.
well acted but not very well written, you can easily predict what will happen most of the time
I use to love these movies but now I just think their ok.
